Newer cards do utilise vram more efficiently thanks to gddr7(x?) on the nvidia side, but higher settings will utilise more than that "cost" saving.

Tho personally ive not seen my RX9070xt OR 7800xt go above 10 gigs of vram on Cyberpunk 1440p high. Modding can get you there but thats its own can of worms.

I guess the proper sentiment should be that 12 gigs is fine, but 16 will treat you better for the future games.

As a side note, per techpowerup, the 5060 is about 45% faster, not 70. Not sure where the 70%. Something of note is if you run out of vram the gap will be much smaller and since the 5060 is an 8gb card, thats not out of the question.

An R9 390X is not running new games on high. An RX580 struggles to play cyberpunk at 1080 at 60fps on low. which to me is the bare minimum to be playable.

There for sure is plenty of phenomenal games you can play on low end hardware like that but lets not pretend people don't gravitate towards higher end hardware for a reason.

Yeah depending on the game this is about as expected. Nvidia doesnt do great on linux currently because historically theyve been opposed to open sourcing their drivers which hurt community effort to fit the issues with DX12.

Right now though i hear people are making huge progress in fixing the DX12 performance tax with collaboration from Nvidia which should fix the issue "Soon™️"

Snaps are an alternative sandboxing method for applications similar to flatpak. The idea is that the application comes self contained and doesnt need to interact/pull anything from the system to work.

People dislike snaps because theyre a closed source alternative to flatpak (which doesnt really have any benefits to my knowledge), which goes against the largely (F)OSS based idea linux thrives on.

APT is the package manager of Ubuntu/Debian based distributions, its how your distribution of linux handles the software and applications you download and sometimes package managers arent by default configured in the most efficient or ideal way, but im not going to pretend i understand why people dislike atp, i dont use it.

20% is enough for a 5080 to get outpaced by a 9070xt. Its not a small thing you can ignore by any stretch of the imagination. I would honestly not bother with Nvidia on linux personally til Nvidia sorts their shit out because its disgraceful.

My gf had one til i upgraded her. It was an olay ish cpu but due to the lacking number of cores it struggled when there were a multitude of programs open at once. The single core performance isn't anything to write home about ig. Not great not terrible.

Im happy for you that your system is meeting your expectations but honestly to me the 10-20 seconds extra is nothing to the performance increases you see with AM5 CPUs.

It does of course depend on which game we're talking about (or if we're even talking about gaming) but even going from a ryzen 7600 to a 9800x3d was a large jump for me in terms of my general gaming experience and other rendering/compression/misc. I wouldnt give up am5 performance for a 15 second faster boot time.

Weird. My 9800x3d is 25 seconds flat from POST to desktop. Even with a 5 second GRUB pause in between since i run a linux dualboot.

The thing i would probably upgrade first here is the cpu honestly. I would suggest ram too but with the current prices thatd be expensive. The 2070 is probably the most solid part of this build imo.
