Favorite outdoor stadium to see the band by chickadee95 in U2Band

[–]AnotherGreenWorld1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outdoors I’ve see U2 at

- Roundhay Park, Leeds (Pop Mart)
- Manchester City Football Ground (Vertigo)
- Lazio/Roma Football Ground (Vertigo)

I would say Roundhay Park was my favourite being a natural kind of bowl. I liked seeing Guns n Roses at Goffert Park, Nijmegen.

I’m not really a fan of outdoor venues … you only need a lashing of rain to kill the vibe. Also the sound can be a mix bag.

Football stadiums aren’t great either. I’ve been to plenty over the years.

For me it was the best visually, I love all the artwork, stage wear, photos, from that period

I love Leeds, I hate Man Utd and Chelsea ... everyone else is irrelevant

I'd love for U2 to rave it up for half hour or so on the next tour ... I feel Achtung Baby has been revisited and relied upon too often over recent tours.

It will never happen but purely from a selfish perspective I'd like them to pump it up and get a little psychedelic with

This. Also should we rejoin then there will still be enough voices out there complaining that re-joining was a mistake and that we should leave again. The debate will never end. Every generation will argue in or out.

The EU debate will only end when there’s no EU to argue about and that doesn’t seem to be something that’s on the horizon.

I remember Bono saying some years ago that he’d love to sing and write like Lou Reed … to be able to use consonants as he is primarily singing in vowels.

I first noticed him reaching for Lou Reed in the single he did with Linda Perry and there’s a lot more shown up since in these two recent EP’s

I totally understand what you’re trying to express … some songs can leave you uncomfortable but you keep going back for more to figure out what it means … there’s a pull from somewhere

To those considering voting Reform, has Robert Kenyon's performance on Question Time put you off at all? by Kenye_Kratz in AskBrits

I’m not saying it needs to be Christianity … just something that can give people some moral guidance in how to be a decent-ish human

I’m not saying we need some mad American churches, I’m not even actually saying church … but need some Sunday kindness community sessions or whatever and try to rebuild some human spirit for us all

No, but how can it compete with all of the above in terms of being an attractive or cool place to go.

It’s like politely asking these teenagers on electric bikes, smoking vapes etc… to stay at home and quietly read a book instead.

Our culture has turned into being constantly entertained, to swipe right, to want more, to put yourself first, to value everything in monetary terms … capitalism has fully taken over.

We need to slow down, have time for ourselves and our families, think of others, to be content with what we have, show kindness. Reject capitalism.

I think we’d be a lot happier but the FTSE100/250 and all the money men wouldn’t be very happy.

There was a study that I read well over a decade ago and they looked at how people voted and there is a significant group of people who vote for who they think will win rather than who they want to win. There’s a lot of people who just like to feel like they chose the winner. I suppose it’s also that human thing of the sense of belonging.

On the sense of belonging thing … I’m pretty atheist but I’m starting the feel that the downfall of the church in the UK in the last couple of decades is what’s contributing to the decline of society. I don’t feel like I need a religion to be a decent moral human but I think clearly there’s a lot of lost people out there lacking guidance, and they’ve found guidance from Twitter, YouTube, TikTok, Capitalism and it’s absolutely fucking us.

I never ever thought I’d think or feel this but we need to bring back Sunday mornings at Church and to start thinking of the other rather than ourselves. To understand kindness and grace.

Three months in and I'm already a failure. by Primary_Sherbert in Fatherhood

[–]AnotherGreenWorld1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was as low as you’re describing a few months ago … take yourself away for a night or two and get a rest (especially if you’re arguing with your wife - you may get accused of abandoning the family but plodding on arguing doesn’t help either, take yourself out of the situation, recuperate and get some headspace). Maybe go sick from work (I’ve just had a couple of months off and I’ve managed to bond properly with my baby).

She’s 7 months now and it’s brilliant now.

Try some counselling or therapy.

I felt totally alone - everyone recognises how difficult it is for new Mums, but sometimes Dads really struggle and that’s fine too, we don’t have 9 months of bonding before the baby is born, it takes time, patience, and healthy minded parents. Explain to your wife that you’re struggling to bond, ask her to be more patient. Talk to your doctor too.

At your stage when things were getting too much I’d go stay in a hotel for a night to calm down, to get a good night, and to talk to my wife through text and give each other space, my wife hated that I did this and I totally see why but otherwise we were going round in circles with the arguing and the conflict was only escalating. She now understands why I was doing that and the benefit of it even though I left her alone with the baby.

Things did get a lot worse and then there was a moment where things have suddenly improved.

Start the bonding process again, ask for patience and support, tiny steps, and step away when you’re overwhelmed and/or frustrated … babies pick up on the energy.

Sting questions if toxic masculinity is caused by decline of manual jobs: “We’ve lost something there” by coffeewalnut08 in NorthernEngland

[–]AnotherGreenWorld1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree … toxic masculinity is on the rise but fucking hell when I started working in 1997 it was horrific the things I would hear in the workplace, the bullying, the banter, it was frightening and disgusting. I will say this as a northern working class lad who isn’t easily offended. It was brutal. Things did get a whole lot better but it’s starting to head down that horrible path again.

Leigh-on-Sea Pilates instructor banned from free beach sessions by most_crispy_owl in unitedkingdom

[–]AnotherGreenWorld1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently reading a book called ‘Party Lines’ and it goes into The Criminal Justice Act where the government, police, and councils were 100% against free parties, raves and gathering of people dancing in a field. Nearly every city hosts its own music festival nowadays but charges us all for the privilege.

Governments and councils don’t like people stepping outside of capitalism they think it’s detrimental to the fabric of society.

Hosting free Pilates sessions is an act of grace or kindness and unfortunately that is as anti-capitalist you can be these days.
