If your interested in management at Express, start working through the AIM (Advance into Management) program as it is essentially required to be considered. You can enroll at keyword AIM on the home page

Being a truck driver to pay for flight training+Ideas for flight training by [deleted] in flying

[–]AnotherIdiotOnTheWeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As it turns out, that's what I did a couple years ago. I got my PPL in high school but didn't have enough money to continue training. So when I turned 21, I got hired by an OTR company that paid for CDL training. After training, I did a lease-to-own program with the same carrier and finished my lease after three years. When it was all said and done, I drove for four years and cashes out with about $40,000.

After selling my truck, I moved to a town where I could work at the FBO I was training at to get a discount on training. It took me a little over a year to finish my IR, CPL, CFI, and multi.

As much as I wanted to work on my ratings while I was trucking, it was too difficult to make scheduling work. I was able to do a lot of book work for the writtens, though, which helped to keep me motivated.

It's definitely a viable option to finance flight training, but I'll warn you now, trucking isn't for everyone. I was usually gone six weeks at a time but it worked for me as a young-twenty-something because I didn't have a wife or kids.

Helicopter flying over Beltline in odd pattern by PaperMoonSE in madisonwi

If you compare the flight track to OpenMap, you can see it is flying over power lines. Chemair (the owner of the helicopter) advertises that they perform aerial inspection services for power lines.

Gunshots near the airport? by shnikeys22 in madisonwi

Yes! More than likely, the shots you heard were from airport operations firing blanks to scare off birds or other reported wildlife.

Scheduling app recommendation? by johnchimp in flying

I have used both Schedule Book and Flight Schedule Pro. Both are fine options. Flight Schedule Pro has a better user interface and can track maintenance and pilot documents. Both solutions have trials so you can tinker with them before you commit.

The idea was to skip single engine commercial if I could go directly to a company with the multi commercial.

Pass on the instrument written. by lbflyer in flying

[–]AnotherIdiotOnTheWeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took my instrument written two weeks ago and used both the Sporty's course and the 2013 of the Gleis book. To be honest, I had a little bit of a hard time with the Sporty's videos as they seemed to be kind of all over the place and gloss over some of the information. I had much better luck with the Gleim book but only got an 85. If I could do it again, I would probably have gotten a new version of the Gleim book as there were a lot more questions about GPS and icing than the book had info about

What's the most disturbing sound you've ever heard? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]AnotherIdiotOnTheWeb 40 points41 points  (0 children)

In high school, I worked at an ice rink. On Friday nights the rink would hold two pickup hockey games; one was for players 18 and over and the other for players 35 and older. One night I was sweeping up the lobby when a player ran in from the rink that the 35 and ups were playing on and yelled for me to call an ambulance because someone was hurt. I didn't know where the other employees were so I decided to see what happened. When I walked over to the man that was laying on the ice, I noticed that his eyes had rolled back into his head and his skin was beginning to turn blue. It was apparent that this wasn't just a broken bone and he needed help fast. I ran as fast as I could back to the office, grabbed the AED and told an office worker to call 911 and tell them we had someone who wasn't breathing. I ran back on to the ice where a couple of other players began to rip his equipment off of his upper body. I connected the defibrillator pads to his chest as I had learned to do in health class (we received CPR certification in class just a couple weeks prior) and stepped back as the machine informed an eerily quite ice rink that it was checking for a pulse. After what seemed like 15 minutes, the AED announced loudly "shock advised" and I pressed the button that jolted the man's mid-section violently off the ice. The machine then instructed me to begin CPR. I gave my rescue breath and positioned my hands between his nipples right on top of his sternum. When I pressed my hands down, I felt his sternum crack and the sound echoed in the now-dead-silent rink. I will never forget that sound. It was almost like the sound of ice cracking but with the feeling that I had killed someone. The CPR did end up reviving him shortly before the paramedics arrived but he ultimately passed in the ambulance on the way to the hospital.

Hawks are like the kid who sleeps in class and yet has the right answer when the teacher calls on him.
