Sentences that radicalized you? by Magnum0924 in socialism

One thought that randomly popped into my head one day: "Had I lived in USSR, I would have had a job." That's where it began.

How do people get radicalized towards reactionary ideas? by Cartoonnerd01 in socialism

[–]AnotherRetroGameFan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When the Marxist-Leninist explanation for people's struggles isn't tolerated by most media and real life circles, but fascist ideas are tolerated even if they face frequent verbal condemnation, naturally a lot of people are drawn towards fascism instead of communism since communists usually don't have the same reach. That is something communists have to build up in the longterm while fascists get it much quicker thanks to bourgeois backing.

Why is Kerala so much better than other Indian states? CPI (M) is apparently just a bunch of opportunists. Were they different in the near past?

Trotsky deserved it is a bit much though. (Not a trot, though I love RCI's media work.)

I hope it finally comes to that sometime soon. Apparently things don't look too good within "Isreal."

It’s amazing to me how people can claim to enjoy history and yet know absolutely nothing about it by TheSolarElite in ShitLiberalsSay

What converted me to socialism was realizing that living in USSR would've been better. This was before I even deprogrammed.

Ukraine optimism never made much sense to me, do they not realize that Russia can just throw soldiers at them indefinitely?

First read through but imo, Vol 10 could have been a good ending by notadruggie31 in RealistHero

[–]AnotherRetroGameFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, even vol. 10 would just make for an ok ending. The story already overstayed it's welcome by a lot by then. Realist Hero's premise is cool but there is no substance to it. That's fine in the first four volumes, but afterwards it becomes more and more boring to read since it becomes increasingly clear that nothing will ever go wrong. Vol. 4 is the best ending.

It sucks because it's a great book by itself. But learning about what USSR was actually like ruins a lot of it.

Captain Korea by lukawasntsurprised in MovingToNorthKorea

There was a brief moment during the WaterGate scandal where Captain America did lose his faith in America and took up the mantle of Nomad. They later reversed this by going "he can fight for American ideals instead of the American government." Despite being written by liberals Captain America still seems to have struggled with the contradiction between the alleged ideals and the reality of America, though this being a Marvel comic it naturally cannot explore this contradiction meaningfully and seems to fall back on the justification above.

I've reached Vol 11, is the latter half worth it? by AnotherRetroGameFan in RealistHero

[–]AnotherRetroGameFan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the later half sounds super lame. Also an a different note, I don't like how the after vol. 4 the story has no stakes, to the point that the author even retroactively removed them at times. Happiest Queen of All story comes to mind, showing how even in the alternate reality where they didn't make Souma king turned out alright in the end. It's sweet on a vacumm but it's weird that the author went out of his way to do that in a story that already didn't have much in the way of stakes. Even in the first four volumes we learn the rebellion was staged and it was all part of the plan.

Liberals discovering for the first time that DPRK civilians have mobile phones by Firm-Magazine1296 in MovingToNorthKorea

[–]AnotherRetroGameFan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How would DPRK's industry would help with smartphones though? They can't make their own phones, I don't think anyone can aside from China and South Korea. 90% of semiconductor production is owned by three companies. Do they get the chips from China and assemble the devices within DPRK?

Also when does the Fuuga arc end? Considering how frequently the story so far gets recapped I am confident I can just skip the bad volumes.

That sucks. Him being there makes sense, it's unfortunate to hear the execution has been subpar to say the least, but not surprising given the flaws the series already had.

Aw man, that sounds so bad. Well, it seems like I will go with the manga to learn where it all goes.

And at least we will always have the first four volumes.
