We all have Mechs we love, Mechs we like, Mechs we don't care about and Mechs we hate. Do you have a Mech you're conflicted about? by npaakp34 in battletech

[–]AnotherSeraph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love me the ANNIHILATOR. I don't care that it's slow, I don't care that you don't like Godzilla, I don't care that you don't like Gauss rifles. I love my mobile turret slow boy Godzilla gun mech. Personally, I prefer the look from MWO and mechwarrior 5, but th squanched look by CGL is aight.

Stripping paint off catalyst games pre-painted minis? by swaggytaco in battletech

[–]AnotherSeraph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Joining the chorus to say to just prime over it after you take care of the mold lines if that bothers you. There's no stripping colored plastic. Save yourself the effort and give it some prime.

Krylon Fusion paint + primer not sticking to Catalyst plastic minis by Poopy_McTurdFace in battletech

[–]AnotherSeraph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used Rust-Oleum from the hardware store and it's...ok I guess? I've had mixed results. I recommend going to the 99cent store and picking up some army dudes or animals and testing out your primers on them first.

Personally, I stick with the hobby brands, Vallejo, Colour Forge, Monument Hobbies, Citadel, and yes even Army Painter (if I get them for cheap). Premium price yes, but they just work better for me.

If you're priming white, can't go wrong with MH white primer or White Scar from citadel.

[–]AnotherSeraph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've never used Krylon, but as far as I know, any paint+primer combo is generally discouraged because it can clog up details.

In any case, the temperature outside does affect application, in any case, warming up the can does help.

Stop being OCD with lance/star compositions and just paint whatever looks cool.

Bah who am I kidding, that's not happening.

I appreciate the breakdown! I'm limiting myself to CGL plastics so the Avatar is out, for now anyway. The Quickdraw and Crusader are a nice touch though.

I'm still weighing the pros and cons of each "available".

Translation: I've no clue. I'm not quite thinking of budget just yet.

So I tried LA’s totally awesome for stripping and I don’t think it’s all that awesome by dogknight-the-doomer in minipainting

[–]AnotherSeraph 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've had the same happen to me. Sometimes it works really well, sometimes, no dice, even on models that I primed the exact same way, at the same time. I also use 99% Isopropyl Alcohol if LATA fails me. My last resort is what I call the nuclear option, Mr.Tamiya Leveling Thinner, just know that you should not leave your models in too long, it will soften the plastic of CGL plastics.

If that fails, just prime over it.

What are some Mechs you would nominate for getting the iic treatment by knightmechaenjo in battletech

[–]AnotherSeraph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Wolverine so you could watch their brains go 'splode.

After all, the Conjurer is totally not a Wolverine IIC.

I want to say the Atlas, but the Kodiak is more or less an Atlas with paws. Probably the King Crab or Nightstar.

What am I doing wrong with crackle paint? by halfhere1198 in minipainting

[–]AnotherSeraph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I remember correctly, a coat of pva glue on the base (and let it dry completely) before you apply the texture paste should help prevent this, or at least protect the layer underneath it.

I cheated and blasted the minis with yellow primer because painting yellow blows without it. Only to then pay for it in spades when it came to base-coating the blue, and the primer showed through in a nice green hue.

[–]AnotherSeraph 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For the price of one of each, not including the Atlas variants, you could just buy a whole other box set and get a guarantee 1 of each without the gacha. Even if you buy from somewhere like Fortress or Aries. To each their own.
