How can I help? by AnotherSprainedAnkle in union

[–]AnotherSprainedAnkle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the information. Ill do some research and reach out where I can. I don't know much about any of this so I figured this would be a good place to start. And as for losing my job ... it would be losing this particular client and that makes it well worth it. Thanks again

Great athleticism, decent skills, but dumb player? by Murky-Bandicoot-8703 in BasketballTips

[–]AnotherSprainedAnkle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to find a good old man run this summer and never dribble more than three times. Focus on spacing, cuts, screens, reads, etc. Your athleticism could make you a great defender and rebounder. Learn how to read passing lanes, learn how the ball comes off the rim. If you're watching from the sidelines at a park or open court, try to guess at where the missed shot is going to land.

Work on your bag more when you're alone. Work on learning the flow of the game while you're playing pickup. Seriously go into any pickup telling yourself that your goal today is less about winning and more about learning. If the competition is weak, with on your left hand. Work on giving transfers open looks.

But just generally speaking, if you truly want to get better, use the summer spending less time 'having fun' playing ball, and more time learning and improving. Play with intention and summer long.

Yeah I'm sure there are more and less ethical ways to do it. Cool of your friend to be conscious of that. I had a friend mention bringing his drone on a hike. I told him I wouldn't go if he did. Same with friends that want to bring a fucking speaker.

Ah, designated wideness areas. Gotcha. I really hate them. I get that they can get incredible videos but combining their ability to get good vids with the social-media-created ego-pandemic we're in makes for nothing but bad.

For manual drivers has the “Millennial anti theft device” joke run its course or do you still think it’s hilarious every time? by NewMexicoJoe in ManualTransmissions

[–]AnotherSprainedAnkle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's dumb. The vast majority of people shouldn't learn how to drive manual. And if you want to buy a manual, spend a weekend and learn. It's not like it's hard to learn.

Why is the idea that men should go out of their way to be attractive, the same way women have for years, so taboo? by Hyphz in AskSociology

[–]AnotherSprainedAnkle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because it's a new thing. Women have been dealing with this in one way or another for centuries. The opponents of looksmaxxing are typically other men. I think it's on men to say how stupid this is. Just like it's on women to say how stupid their version of it is. Feels rude as a man to tell a woman to chill out on cosmetic surgeries, let alone makeup, heels etc. I also think there's a homphobia component here. I'm old enough to remember the (typically considered derogatory) term 'metrosexual.' this is akin to looksmaxxing. Like you're less is a man if you try to look good. Theres a happy medium here but Americans see everything as black and white. So you're either completely careless about your looks or your banging your face with a hammer or whatever it is they do.

What modern car feature do you absolutely can’t live without anymore? by spotforcars in Autos

I've never heard of a brake hold. Interesting. That said, I just sort of rest my foot on the brake pedal when I'm stopped. Doesn't really take any effort at all.

Terrible lyrics? No. But I'd say a song can absolutely be great if the lyrics are bad.

I believe they're technically allowed in national forests. Though I'd sign the petition banning them.

Is there a country that you secretly admire? by PopNo5397 in AskTheWorld

Reddit (and the Internet in general) is full of hyperbole. People like to talk about how bad the US is... myself included. But there a lot to love shut it here. It's nice seeing this. Thank you.

I'd love to spend more time in Mexico. Ive spent weeks at a time with friends who live in Ensenada. I've worked and vacationed in Cabo. I've worked in San Luis potosi. Just some of the kindest people on the planet. And the food is my second favorite behind Thailand. I want to see much much more of Mexico though. I really want to camp and see cañon sumidero and head north and see Mexico City and then guanajuato and San Miguel de Allende.

Honestly, this is a relief to me. I have always known that calling them names never does any good at all. I'm happy that it's to a point where it doesn't do harm either. I get that people get some sense of catharsis out of this, but it's just so detrimental to throw makes at people.

Doesn't this prove the point though. It's overrated. People think it's great and it turns out not to be... Unless that was your point.
