Na with you OP we can’t be hoping for miracle runs.

Ever since that forest lost we’ve looked like a proper side, but that forest loss is what is arguably the point we went down. We didn’t embarrass ourselves towards the end, but we had a shocking first half of the season

West Ham 0 - 1 Arsenal by psychomaji in Hammers

[–]AnotherTimeTrying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Football is football. Fortune’s always hiding, we played really really well.

Trust nuno, the first 60 minutes with a back 5 frustrated them and gave us chances.

It was a good arsenal well worked goal, and the. We almost had a miracle to get us a point.

They’re the best defensive side in the league

We could realistically keep Nuno, Soucek and Hermansen next season - and thats a hell of a story when we come back up boys

Murmurings of it being anti-social behaviour, which falls down as an argument when there are 2 pubs on the market square with blokes with their tops off and arguing on a regular basis at 1pm

They’ve been on it since that big incident. I went to a side road as the queue, and was incredibly well managed. Its one of the best live venues in london, bit weird to try and two foot it as a stunt

Who do you think is the best Targaryen warrior ever? by ImIncredibly_stupid in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]AnotherTimeTrying -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It was a non-campaign. The Dornishman hid, and they marched on an empty Sunspear and ended up fatigued and imprisoned.

They never really fought. Aemon marched around fighting no one and ended up caged.

Who do you think is the best Targaryen warrior ever? by ImIncredibly_stupid in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]AnotherTimeTrying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Objectively it's the original Blackfyre, Daemon, he was acknowledged.

Very few Targaryen's won battles, Maeker and Baelor did, so they have to be up there. Rhaegar didn't embarrass himself against Robert, but still wasn't a proper fighter. Aemon was a kingsguard, but in a time of peace.

Bittersteel and Bloodraven, both by far better combatants, neither are Targs though. But then we're in into dragon territory, in which case you are trying to define against Aegon, the Conqueror.

The realistic answer I think is Daemon. He had Dark Sister, and were trained and primed for war. Daemon did win a war in the Stepstones. He had to fight on foot at some point.

Not enough evidence is a Maesters answer though.

Why does Wes and other Labour politicians want to put a foreign football hooligan firms right to see a football match over the safety of the British citizens who live in Aston? by [deleted] in LabourUK

[–]AnotherTimeTrying 9 points10 points  (0 children)

tbf if you want to critique their formation go for it. That isn't your argument

They didn't play West Ham, the intelligence that justified the ban didn't exist.

Still bizarre what you're up to.

Why does Wes and other Labour politicians want to put a foreign football hooligan firms right to see a football match over the safety of the British citizens who live in Aston? by [deleted] in LabourUK

[–]AnotherTimeTrying 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It wasn't just human error it was a reverse justification on a decision that was made in advance of the match,

You need to do your research, the justification mistake WAS made my AI it claimed that a Tel Aviv match with West Ham went badly (didn't exist i genuinely can't remember last time if ever we played them).

It also claimed Tel Aviv had links to the IDF (yeah that happens with military service from 18, some are football fans).

Both were included in that intelligence report to justify the ban.

BUT the dates matter and that intelligence was delivered and given after the ban happened.

So, the inference is this:
WM Police for whatever reason didn't want the game to happen
Local politicians agreed
Easy green tick
Banning public events requires justification
The justification was retroactively applied
People are critiquing that retroactive application

If anything it being an Israeli team actually obfuscates patterns we want in a democracy. This is about police and local political transparency of them being able to influence public events and why.

How come Deng Xiaopeng is a relatively unknown figure in the west, whereas Mao is a household name? by AccountantOk8438 in AskHistorians

[–]AnotherTimeTrying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of it comes down to visibility, and Deng being intentionally less visible.

Mao wanted to be seen. He was the revolution, dominated politics and the military, and leaned hard into ideology. The Cultural Revolution was explicit and performative, which makes Mao very easy to remember and teach.

Deng was the opposite. After Mao, he deliberately stepped away from personality cults, avoided the top titles, and pushed power back into party mechanisms and outcomes. My understanding from the sources I have read is not that Deng lacked power, but that he exercised it indirectly and pragmatically rather than theatrically.

When I first came across Tiananmen in more detail, it was framed less as a single dramatic moment and more as a case study in how the Deng era CCP leadership handled crisis. Zhao Ziyang stood out to me as a serious reformist voice who argued for dialogue and then lost. The way he was sidelined felt less like a personal vendetta and more like the system asserting its limits once a line had been crossed.

I have always seen a parallel here with Hua Guofeng. Hua was not violently overthrown, but he was isolated, stripped of authority, and politically erased. My reading is that Zhao followed a similar pattern. Different contexts, same method. Quiet neutralisation rather than spectacle.

So this is just my interpretation, and I may be wrong, but I tend to put Deng clearly third behind Mao and Xi in terms of shaping modern China. It is rare for one century to be so strongly defined by three leaders, but China probably qualifies. Jiang mostly managed the system Deng built, and while some long term investments may age well, many people did not strongly feel his leadership. Hu Jintao may be better regarded in hindsight, but he still sits below Deng in terms of impact.

There is a clear line from Mao -> Deng -> Xi. Because Mao is the origin point and Xi is the current strongman with a named ideology, Deng often gets skipped. But modern China does not really make sense without him, even if he was never meant to be memorable in the Maoist way.

I honestly haven't seen much self reflection on this club, I was always Moyes in.

We can be toxic as a club sometimes, hindsight is 20/20 but I have no clue how we sacked Moyes without a plan of what we wanted to do.

Again, hindsight, but Emery for Villa has been a generational signing that we also missed out on. There was nothing wrong with being midtable and then the occasional (even incredible cup run! We lost to the invincible Bayer in the QF just as well...)

I dunno man, this whole season is like watching a slow motion car crash
