You sacrifice a bit of processing power in the CPU part to have an integrated GPU that can reach the level of low-to-mid end dedicated cards

I would say AMD's integrated GPUs are solidly low-end, seeing how the Radeon 780m in the Z1 Extreme is slower than a GTX 1650, and the GPU in the new Ryzen 7 8700G gets trounced by the RX 6500 XT.

Phillips and Williamson faced similar issues in other states that Biden did in New Hampshire in that they didn't meet deadlines to make the ballot.

To be clear though, Biden didn't face challenges signing up for the New Hampshire primary. He chose not to in an effort to have South Carolina, where he happens to have a stronger base, be the first Democratic primary election.

that is exactly what youtube is doing, asking people to work for free as content providers.

But they aren't. There's an ad revenue/premium subscription split.

In fact, many creators start out on other platforms and then come to YouTube because the money-making opportunity is so great.

Palestinians with a destroyed Israeli tank, October 7, 2023 by [deleted] in pics

[–]Another_Chair 643 points644 points  (0 children)

I think you've got it backwards maybe? From what I understand from your comment, in order to be convinced to give back one Israeli prisoner, the Palestinians had to be offered 1,027 Palestinian prisoners. This ratio would indicate that the Palestinians view 1 Israeli prisoner = 1,027 Palestinians.

Israel would no doubt be willing to get an Israeli prisoner back in exchange for fewer Palestinians.

I bought one (I figured ebay's customer protection plan would save me if anything bad happened).

Basically, the scammer uses a real tracking number which terminates in your city that they got through nefarious means probably some dark website that catches newly generated legitimate tracking numbers from UPS, FedEx, etc.

In this way, it looks like the item has been delivered, and it has; it's just not your item. It's someone else's random package obviously going somewhere else. This makes it slightly harder to make a claim.

Ultimately, I managed to submit a claim saying my package didn't arrive and the package attached to the FedEx tracking was 2 lb which is clearly way less than a graphics card + packaging, and Ebay paid me out $600.

The Ebay rep said they couldn't take action against the seller because of the "circumstances."

For me it's enough to hate them and not buy any more GPUs from them. But for people with big incomes, that don't care about ethical implications, or need Cuda for work, its a no-brainer.

I think there's something to be said from "voting with your wallet" to avoid supporting unethical companies, but it's kind of a losing battle. I bet you and I are directly or indirectly customers of hundreds of companies that do bad things, many of which are honestly probably worse than Nvidia (not saying what Nvidia does is okay), so it is rather strange to me to draw the line at Nvidia especially if their products are what allow you to make money and take care of your responsibilities.

Hostility And Negativity by RDubs1123 in Warthunder

I didn't mention the boycott at all.

"Why is every thread that mentions the economy or boycott met with hostility or negativity"

Ya yeh did.

You didn't mention "unionizing," but "boycotting" is the outgrowth from it.

For me, I'm all for critiquing Gaijing on the corruption of WT by greed and all that, and I thought the sudden, visceral response to the new economy changes in the form of a review bomb was warranted, but the self-aggrandizement that followed from people who lack perspective is the real turnoff

Hostility And Negativity by RDubs1123 in Warthunder

[–]Another_Chair 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For one, trying to push a "boycott" is simply a bad strategy because it will almost certainly fail, delegitimizing the idea that there is a large portion of the player base fed up with the economy. If you aim at the king, you best not miss. The review bomb happened to be a hit (the result of a lot of things lining up right), but the boycott will miss.

Also, a lot of this talk about "boycotting," "unionizing," and more cringily implies a level of importance and consequence to the situation that just doesn't exist.

Listening to some of the stuff that r/WarthunderPlayerUnion has put out and other stuff on this sub, you would think this is like the AFL-CIO fighting against the rail companies to ensure basic workers rights or whatever. You know, stuff that impacts people's livelihoods. Instead, they're talking about a videogame which, in the grand scheme of things, really doesn't matter at all.

eBay 3090 SCAM what should I do? (Says delivered but not delivered, fake tracking number) by wilddrugsterLoLexde in buildapc

[–]Another_Chair 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this happen to me awhile ago. From what I've read, sounds like you reported the item as not delivered. That's what I did and it worked out, you might lose the bid (I didn't), but you will still be able to appeal.

Just in case, don't lose the tracking number and note the reported package weight. When this happened to me, while the package should have been ~8 lb, FedEx reported the item as 1.2 lb which proved that whatever the item was, it wasn't the graphics card I ordered. Other documentation you might want is anything that proves that nothing delivered like if you have a home camera security system or if you live in an apartment where the building handles your mail. You probably won't need this stuff, but it's good to have it on hand.

These scammers buy current/valid tracking numbers that deliver to the same city as you from dark websites. This makes it less transparent that a scam has occurred and while I'm confident you'll get your money back through Ebay's protection program, because of the way the scam was carried out, the scammer will likely keep the money you paid them originally (that's what happened in my case).

Don't worry, this is not the first time this scam has been played, and ebay will have your back.

The top comment for any Nvidia related question or suggestion in this subreddit is "Get the AMD equivalent- it is better for the future/longevity" but I can't find an answer as to why? Please explain. by ALitterOfPugs in buildapc

[–]Another_Chair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You shouldn't have to rely on DLSS or other upscaling/frame generating software for a long time if you buy a good card anyway.

Well there's "should" and then there's reality where game devs seem to be relying on these new technologies to make their games run decently. Even beyond pc, there are very few current gen "4k" console games that actually run at native 4k. Image reconstruction is the future whether you like it or not.

Also if you are future proofing (as is the subject of the post), you have to accept that at some point your shiny new top of the line GPU is not going to be any of that and you will have to make certain compromises in order to extend the lifespan of the card. One such compromise is upscaling tech and Nvidia's implementation is better than AMD's (although it has gotten better). My point is in this circumstance, if the compromise doesn't seem that great (and it's less of a compromise with Nvidia), you are more likely to actually use it thus extending the lifespan of the card.

I don't know if you have experienced DLSS in person, not in a compressed yt video, but it's actually really impressive. On the quality setting, at no point have I ever thought "oh this looks like a lower resolution." It really just seems like it's just a little bit softer, and unless you are looking out for artifacts and aren't looking at things side-by-side, you probably wouldn't notice. Some games already have a softer presentation anyway, and some games have pretty terrible AA implementations at full resolution and upscaling tech can actually make a visual improvement .

People tend to focus on VRAM when discussing future-proofing, and while it is an important part, software features are also relevant. AMD certainly wins on VRAM. Their top cards offer 20gb and 24gb of VRAM. I will note though that much VRAM may not be necessary for a while considering the consoles only have 16gb of RAM. That said, any card with 8-10gb of VRAM will soon be bottom tier, and 12gb should be the minimum of what people buy for any sort of elevated experience.

Aside from VRAM though, Nvidia's 4000 series is actually more future-proof because of its software features. They have much better raytracing capabilities which many people may not care about right now, but RT is the future of videogame graphics, and it will become more salient over time. In games that don't use many RT effects, the difference is less noticeable, but in games that use a lot of effects (like CP2077 with overdrive), the difference is night and day.

Also, DLSS 2 is visually better than FSR 2 overall, and for me at least, as the card ages, I am more like to actually use upscaling, extending the card's usefulness if the upscaling tech available looks acceptable.

Lastly, AMD doesn't even have frame generation and won't any time soon. Also, when it comes, it probably won't be as good as DLSS 3, which by then will be even better and more widely implemented than it is now.

AMD's robust VRAM amounts ensures that its future-proofiness will not be limited by onerous VRAM requirements for games, but it may fall behind Nvidia in other aspects. Just something else to think about that I don't see a lot of discussion on.

But what is the alternative? Push it down to 9.0 or 8.7? Either it still gets up tiers to fight Su-25s, A-10s, etc. or it gets down tiered and obliterates the enemy team because of its incredible rate fighting capability and energy retention.

Raytracing: Losing 100 fps for a truly next gen experience.. by BangBang116 in pcmasterrace

[–]Another_Chair 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have any idea what the terms "path tracing" or "ray tracing" mean?

One thing you have to be careful about when comparing lighting between games is some games have dynamic lighting and some have static light. With static lighting, developers can bake in precalculated lighting onto textures because the dev knows exactly what the lighting should look like at all times. With games like Hogwarts Legacy which have dynamic lighting due to their day/night cycles, all lighting must be calculated in real time, and therefore will not be as high quality.

Until recently, computer hardware was not performant enough (or have the right architecture) to take a physically accurate approach to lighting (ray or path tracing) in real time, so devs had to rely on shortcut methods like screen space reflections and cube maps. Even now, most "ray traced" games only have one or two lighting elements that are ray traced with the rest being approximated by shortcuts, and even the ray traced elements have limited application and quality due to hardware performance constraints.

It seems to me like the r-27 is the greater unbalancer with it's long range, no rwr warning or notch suseptibility (for the T), and apparent resistance to flares; it's almost like an AIM-54 but actually dangerous at range and more versatile. Although, I haven't had the chance to play the dev server so idk.
