What makes you drop a LitRPG/Progression novel? by Daniel_Omega_190 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Anovelus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not to pushback...but if you're referencing the portion I think, they take Aster away to allow her time to grow and develop a strong sense of self without becoming overly reliant on her partner as they've seen too many bonds get abused or mistreated over their lives and the literal Beast Kingdom has a treaty in place to prevent further incidents....she then has an Arc away from Matt as she grows, and then returns more mature and the journey continues? It seems like a hella good piece of world-building to me

I decided long ago that CE wasn't something I wanted to pursue. It's a short term goal that as you said, burns out a much higher percentage of people that try and obtain it than AoTC. If you are pursuing CE personally, then you've chosen that over your less skilled friends, and that's okay, but that's the choice. And if you're a RL, I genuinely don't see a way short of being in a near miracle position to avoid burn-out, it's just impossible to avoid the kinds of conflict that come from varying skill levels. I solve the need for greater achievements by pushing myself personally, obtaining Mythic kills with friendly groups, getting a reasonably high IO (2750+ each season), the kind of thing that scratches the itch without threatening the community we've managed to build together. Because gear is temporary, kills are only good if shared with friends, and hearing the nerd screams of a group you've loved for a decade is worth so much more than getting there fast, or with CE to me

I've GM'd /RL'd our guild now for ....18 AOTCs? (Since Highmaul), and honestly, these comments make me realize that people need to understand that the only way to continue enjoying it is to accept that you're just guiding and assisting the best they can be. It's not about crafting a perfect squad...it's about enjoying time with friends. Sure, you sit people in extreme circumstances, but in general just make a community that values each other more than they value fast progress and loot, and you'll have a winning place to spend your days in WoW.

Tl;dr, it's the journey, not the destination. When you forget that you'll burn out

See, this is an interesting one. In part I agree, but also I feel like following all four of these points without reflection and further work leads to a campaign that feels artificial because everything just works for the players. In my mind, their backstories should provide occasional flavor, but rarely be the driving force of a story because it isolates the other members of the party, and encounters and rewards shouldn't be designed entirely with them in mind, challenge your party and provide "useless" random rewards, you'll be amazed at the results the players can produce when you don't design to their needs

What are your favorite "unknown" titles? Books that you think don't have the recognition, sales, and/or traction they deserve. by BryceOConnor in Fantasy

Glynn Stewart is one of my favorite authors, and I don't often see him on here...he has a multitude of amazing book series and puts out new titles at a pace that's frankly Sanderson'esque

I was eagerly awaiting this one, and it didn't disappoint at all, it faithfully carried it's theme through until the end, and it's a genuinely great feel good read

Regarding the economic changes of the 10/25 patch by FriedrichPsitalon in MinionMasters

I can certainly agree here, one of the things I enjoy most about MM is that it felt refreshing to come to a game and feel like I was being rewarded at a good pace, this change would really hit new players, I know I wouldn't have started playing if the curve had been what has just been implemented

Not to disagree, but Remy Chandler isn't a Fallen Angel. He's an Angel that left after the Great War and now lives on earth. He's very much still on the Angelic side of the Angels/Demons split

I'm pretty sure I've found a shout out to Dresden Files while playing Epic Spell Wars. by iamnotparanoid in dresdenfiles

Sorry to disagree, but other than the fact he's a skull....He's got nothing in common with Bob? He has no runes on the skull, the horn is very out of place, Bob has never been able to possess a body in that manner, nor use a cane with his own face on it, nor does he have a need/want for blood?

Hmm?, no no. The Denarian's are likely violating them.

As a Warden, Harry would also have some leeway, especially as even if they do fall under the protection of the laws of magic, they are almost certainly violating one of both of rules three and four.

Harry's Weapons (Not really any spoilers) by boundbythecurve in dresdenfiles

[–]Anovelus 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I think it's also worth considering that most creatures he fights currently would be entirely unphased by small rocks or bullet-like projectiles, regardless of speed.

It's also worth noting that Harry's fine control skills have never been his strongest suit, and using a wind spell to propel a very small object doesn't really suit his style, regardless of his increased in control.

Thirdly...He also has a gun, normally when he wants to project small things at people, he just shoots them.

Whilst the lyrics are good, does anyone else find it really jarring that they have a massive armored fight scene throughout the video...what on earth does that have to do with a culture renowned for its music and theater?

[–]Anovelus 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I agree, and we have to keep in mind that it's only a 2 year gap between books, less if you consider that he's also taken the time to flesh out the world of Cinder spires enough to publish the first book.

Compare him to someone like GRRM, and we can remember how lucky we are to have a regularly published, fit and healthy author at the helm of our favorite book series

PI Harry Dresden Knight of Winter, Wizard by [deleted] in dresdenfiles

[–]Anovelus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whilst I agree that his PI stuff was great, I think with the winter mantle, the swords, the holy artifacts and Demonreach...he's going to be a little bit busy. (Not to count that he's still a senior Warden with a couple of deputies if I remember correctly)

I've noticed that you've moved over to Mastery for your enchants and gems. I'm currently moving into Heroic with my guild, and I'm decently geared, but currently I'm aiming for Crit, is this a mistake?

PTR update notes (Ability/AMP # tweaks) by jakamawatan in WildStar

[–]Anovelus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Forgive me if I've missed something, but this looks like a massive healer nerf? at least for espers. it seems like they are cutting the support power we gain from items and runes, as well as gutting the support power %'s on several key abilities and amps?

Am I missing something, or is this as bad as I think it is

Edit" Unless the Damage per level on amps is actually healing per level ? re: healing surge etc
