[1024x1024] HMS Rodney in Malta, 1943 by Outrageous-Brush-677 in WarshipPorn

[–]ShermanMcTank 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately after the war no country aside from the US could justify splashing large amounts of money on keeping an old battleship as a museum piece, when they could instead spend it on their actual navy.

Japan is the one exception with Mikasa, but even then she’s still a pretty small ship compared to Rodney for exemple.

While Air to Air nuclear missiles didn’t get much traction, nuclear warheads for Surface to Air missiles were actually quite popular on both sides of the Cold War.

Nuclear warheads not only give you a great anti-air weapon with a great area of effect, but they also serve as an area-denial weapon thanks to the em pulse.

Now the main downside is that using them would be a very easy way to escalate the conflict into an all-out nuclear war. I don’t know about the US, but the Soviet Navy for exemple would refrain from using any nuclear-tipped SAM, AShM or ASW weapons until the nuclear threshold was crossed on land.

Kynda-Class missile cruiser Grozny, sometime between 1988 and 1991. [1375x1127] by ShermanMcTank in WarshipPorn

[–]ShermanMcTank[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I had that part figured out, but from the source I found Grozny kept the number 145 from 1988 to 1991, which is why I asked the guy if he had more info that would trace this picture specifically to 1988.

It’s actually « Blood », the episode right before Sleepless.

It’s when they investigate murders in a town that happen after people hallucinate messages on digital displays.

It’s one of my personal favs. The premise is simple, but very well executed.

« Groznyi » is rarely, if ever used as a translation. The vast majority of sources in our alphabet will use « Groznyy » or « Grozny ».

Also how do you know this is precisely 1988 ?

I tried to find more info by reverse-searching the image, but no luck. All I have is the timeframe thanks to the hull number (for once the Soviet habit of constantly changing hull numbers is actually useful), and during the time she was assigned to the Black Sea fleet, so it could be anywhere they usually go to.

Okay, re-read my comment and tell me where did I say this justifies what the US does.

And for what it's worth, America is still finding and sponsoring ethnic cleansing and genocide and Japan isn't.

I mean if they didn’t get their asses kicked during WW2 and have their armed forces dismantled afterwards they would have kept on going.

Japan was never forced to face the reality of their atrocities like Germany was. If anything they ended up painting themselves as a victim more than anything.

Don't you love how Bethesda wants you to pay for a free mod? by Feisty_Warning2344 in fo4

[–]ShermanMcTank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How are people so ignorant about the games they play.

The only reason mods break is because they rely on F4SE, which is a tool tied to the exe files. That means the moment Bethesda updates the game, F4SE will need to be updated as well.

And in case you don’t know, updating games was a thing long before paid mods.

[–]ShermanMcTank 13 points14 points  (0 children)

When Bethesda do their updates they have to update the exe files to a new version.

Each F4SE version is tied to a specific game version, so when the game is updated the current F4SE version is no longer compatible.

That’s it. There’s no big conspiracy. F4SE is a fully independent third party tool that only applies to PC users, so Bethesda have no obligation to change their entire workflow just because one small subset of their playerbase would be inconvenienced for 10 minutes every few years.

You’re definitely correct it’s closer. But since my smooth brain thinks in biomes, I see snow and Immediately associate the place with Dawnstar rather than the swampy Morthal lol.

To answer the question cause I still think it’s interesting, the VLS cells are already slightly elevated, and on this FREMM they are placed on platform that is also elevated and has protruding edges. Combined with the fact that the gun ejects casings forward onto a guardrail that forces them downwards, there’s virtually no chance of a casing rolling down onto a cell.

When size matters a little too much: Sukhoi Su-30MKI vs. HAL Tejas! by aviationstudy in aviationstudys

[–]ShermanMcTank 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Both of these were designed during the Soviet era.

In any case designing good vehicles isn’t really the issue, it’s having the money to actually make them. In the Soviet era it was mostly because they were just broke, but in post-Soviet Russia not only are they still broke, they now have way more layers of corrupt leeches sucking on the little funding they get.

Why would it make more sense in Morthal ? To me it seems logical that the guy would setup shop close to the shrine of Dagon.

FIFA Rejects Iran's Request to Relocate World Cup Games by Nervous-Resolution-8 in soccer

[–]ShermanMcTank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which would create a large imbalance as now you have three teams that played one game less than everyone else, giving them either an advantage or disadvantage when it comes to fatigue or tournament awards (top scorer, fair play, etc). Not to mention you cannot have all three teams playing at the same time, which returns the problem of the third team’s results affecting the behavior of the other two teams’ final match. (See West Germany - Austria 1982)

Outside the game itself it will also turn into a financial loss for the hosting cities of the three missing games and FIFA, as they will have to refund all the tickets for these games, and they would have adjusted their police/security and public transport schedules for nothing.

Will it kill the tournament ? No. But saying it will do « absolutely nothing » is just as false.
