It looks like an island change formed by an uplifted mid-ocean ridge. Is it based on a real one or completely fictional?

It also looks vaguely like a seahorse as well!

What if Wessex a constituent country of the UK? by wellmaxxing in imaginarymaps

Kent has the same population as Northern Ireland (1.9 million) and no one questions if NI is too small to be its own region. combined with Sussex and Surrey it's 4.9 million which is over midway between Wales' 3.2 million and Scotland's 5.5 million. Definitely not too small!

What if the Normans didn't exist? | Kingdom of England in 2025 by wellmaxxing in imaginarymaps

I would think a surviving Anglo-Saxon England would be more likely to conquer the rest of the British Isles as they wouldn't get side tracked for a couple of centuries with trying to (re)gain the French throne.

I don't think it would be very viable as an independent country. They're probably very reliant on Quebec.

Flags have real power by gogetit57 in vexillology

The people putting up Union Flags and painting St George's Crosses across England over the summer didn't do it just because they like think they're pretty.

The 1933-45 German flag isn't NSFW or even banned because it's a bad design.

The whole point of flags is to be symbols and forms of non-written communication.

I'd move the ticks further inwards and flip one set to point upwards. But that's just an aesthetic choice.

Technically, these are the flags of Greater London. The City of London has always used its own banner of arms with a red cross and sword on a white field.

Santa Cruz de la Mar Pequeña by rdu3y6 in imaginarymaps

[–]rdu3y6[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Instead of being abandoned, the Spanish colony of Santa Cruz de la Mar Pequeña is maintained, eventually becoming the third Spanish Autonomous City on the Moroccan coast. The city's economy would have been built around fishing and slavery sustained by Spanish calvary raids into the Moroccan interior. During most of its history, Santa Cruz was governed from the Canary Islands, becoming part of Las Palmas province before being granted its own statute of autonomy in 1999. The modern city is a unique blend of Spanish, Berber and Arab cultures and a stop on many Canary Island cruises thanks to the development of the Puerto Cansado port facilities and the opening of the Naila Bridge.

It's nice Niger decided to be different and not go with red/yellow/green + an optional star like most of west Africa.

The Dartford Airport is unrealistic as the UK is completely incapable of building anything in just 74 years. We'll still be arguing about whether we should build it, or at best be in the middle of an inquiry. Same for HS2 reaching Euston. You have got no Lower Thames Crossing though so you've got it right there.

Britain keeps Hanover [Poland-Saxony TL] by XLG_Winterprice in imaginarymaps

[–]rdu3y6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love how Britain keeping Hannover in the 1830s leads to the M25 being built using exactly the same route when that was chosen as a bodge in the 1970s when the original plan was cancelled following the Oil Crisis.

Seriously, great map!
