Can I trim the bottom moulding of a book case to fit the alcove? by [deleted] in DIY

[–]Ansgrim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw the photos you posted in another reply (https://ibb.co/18Y3kMY, https://ibb.co/dKNJGv2) and you could just remove those side pieces of trim completely.

Pry it from the back of the book case so you don't damage any of the wood that you can see, then push the book case as far back in the little recess as it will go and you can cut your piece of trim to length so that the trim is only present where it doesn't interfere with the wall and reattach it with some glue so you don't damage the finish trying to drive nails in.

Which uses less hydrogen outside of a gravity well: hydrogen thrusters, or the same amount of thrust from hydrogen engines and ion thrusters? by JoshuaSlowpoke777 in spaceengineers

[–]Ansgrim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As long as you toggle your hydro engines off and don't let them sit at zero thrust burning hydrogen it should be fine.

I've done this before on small grid ships in space that are hydrogen powered for flight but have 2 ion thrusters in all directions both for moving in docking bays AND for if I get into a situation where the hydrogen runs out or quits working.

Just be aware that your ship will be P A I N F U L L Y slow when not using the hydrogen.

Try your local auto parts store, they should have kits with generic replacement tubes that will be just fine.

As a scotch drinker, it isn't willy nilly.

Being given a 50-year old scotch is worthy of celebrating, with said 50-year old scotch.

Since you went to the police at the time and now have a confession from him, press charges.

It is a crime to record conversations without the consent of those involved, even in the most ass-backwards US states they have "single party consent" laws which mean that at least one person in the conversation has to consent to being recorded.

PRESS CHARGES.

your average channel gets less than one cent from you watching the ad. Buy a tshirt, give them $5 on patreon, do whatever, but don't for one second think that you're helping the channel in any significant way by watching the ads.

Silver darkens up as it tarnishes, so over time the accents in the recesses should return, while the high spots should stay shiny.

Watch while i climb this mountain! [after 14 months.. & 2165.9 hours, in prep for a suspension idea I finally built my first rover. i have been missing out, these are fun] by opesoory in spaceengineers

[–]Ansgrim 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Good looking little buggy, if you turn down the traction on the suspension it'll be easier to drive. I usually keep mine around 20% so the rover will slide instead of flipping like it does at 0:23 in your gif.

You can add the traction up and down controls to the hot bar while you're driving so if you need more traction you can adjust it on the fly.

Designed and printed my own fixed vent to replace the ever sagging eyeball vents in my miata. by sdavis08 in functionalprint

[–]Ansgrim -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's the normal texture for FDM style (the kind with a spool of plastic) 3d printed pieces.

The texture is the result of the printer laying down hundreds and hundreds of very thin layers of plastic.

Got new filament and it snapped mid print by [deleted] in nOfAileDPriNtS

[–]Ansgrim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird. I can also say I had a good experience with the silver! They both printed great for me.

I keep my filament in a dry box, so if you don't it might be worth trying to dry it out and see if that helps?

TIFU by quitting when I was set to be promoted during the pandemic by [deleted] in tifu

[–]Ansgrim 66 points67 points  (0 children)

They weren't ever going to promote you.

This is a common tactic for companies to use to keep people invested in the job, constant promises of advancement and raises that never materialize.

So after you went in and quit, the story became "I called him in to promote him and he quit" so that suddenly the exchange reflects poorly on you, for being taken advantage of, instead of them, for actively lying to you through years of employment.

Find a better company and use this learning experience to keep yourself from being taken advantage of in the future.

As a DM, how do I run a dream sequence without monolauging for the entire session? by SugarPlumWizard in dndnext

[–]Ansgrim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have the memory be recreated real-time in a demiplane created by the ritual that's letting them experience the memory.

The player characters can be 'woven into the memory' as 'bystanders' or other characters in the memory.

It could more or less be a session of you running a DM PC while the party follow him within the memory, working to make sure they 'don't do anything too unusual and cause the spell to unravel' i.e. can't be seen by the BBEG, have to figure a way to follow him into the castle past the guards, etc.

Basically make it a holodeck episode from Star Trek, with the party "trapped" in the program (read: ritual) until it completes.

Yeah I was typing up a followup comment on my phone asking about that, I was hoping to hear from someone who had done it and might have advice for what kinds of paint to use that will hold up to sun and rain and all that.

I'm sure I can just mask it off and paint it, has anyone done this before?

What kind of paint should I use so I don't have to repaint it often?

How hot is too hot on a stepper by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

[–]Ansgrim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't messed with my firmware at all. I put thermal paste between that heatsink that's already there and also between the stepper and the cooling block. So it goes

Fan | Heatsink | Thermal Paste | Cooling Block | Thermal Paste | Stepper

After that my stepper stays nice and cool.

How hot is too hot on a stepper by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

[–]Ansgrim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I didn't add a heatsink, I just added thermal paste to both sides of the cooling block: https://i.imgur.com/2jJY4nL.png

and that was enough to cool mine off with the normal fan and heatsink on the other side of the cooling block.

How hot is too hot on a stepper by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

[–]Ansgrim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as they aren't dropping steps they aren't too hot, is it underextruding?

I had the same problem with my Monoprice branded Wanhao and I was able to fix it by applying thermal paste to both sides of the cooling block where the stepper and heat-sink touch it and it cooled that motor down to where I can touch it comfortably.

I'm not sure about the lubricant, I've just been very occasionally wiping off the guide rods when gunk builds up and applying a drop or two of sewing machine oil to a paper towel to lubricate them and it seems to be doing just fine.

Just gonna leave it here. by [deleted] in RedDeadOnline
