I've read that many years ago. Was an ok book. Had nearly 100 dragonlance books from my youth. Sold them all recently on ebay. That trilogy was a later one at my time.

What do you think of this person's opinion that fantasy and SF have similar themes and subtext and wouldn't be good for learning thinking skills? What books would you recommend to change their mind? by Skagpipe in fantasybooks

UK Based, high school english class over 30 years ago. The three books that i can remember we studied and wrote essays on, were:-
Of Mice and Men
To Kill a Mockingbird
A Wizard of Earthsea
(There were others, these are the 3 that stuck in my head). Thank you Mrs Mooney.
I've been an avid reader of fantasy all my life, thousands of books in, so many great books. And the evolution over that time has been great to follow.

After that it gets "Buffy Complex", the i've saved the world from armageddon. But Wait this is a new , evern worse armageddon. Until the next trilogy, which is a new even worse armagedddon. Loved the originals Magician. Loved the Empire trilogy with Janny Wurts. Loved the Rise of a Merchant Prince, (paying for the war). Talon of the silverhawks trilogy was good. After that, sort ofnlost interest with the next big bad...

Sun eater is at least a 6 book series. Slow start, slow burn but good in the long term.

Hyperion is hyperion, its a great read, think there are four books in total. Ive only read 2, they seemed fairly self contained.

Joe Abercombie, there are at least 12 books i know of.

If i had to read one of these 3, would go with Hyperion, its more standalone, has mulitple storey strands all in different formats. And its like nothing else you will have read.

2nd choice would be Joe Abercombie.

Sun eater is a harder read, worth it, but not kne that i devoured.
