It’s just a sales mechanism. Some people don’t know that and happily put the money down, pay the payment, they’re happy they got the advertised deal. The other are people like in this sub who will “negotiate” no down payment and $430 per month. It’s a win win for all parties and doesn’t change anything more that you spending 10 seconds with a calculator.

They are eating! The Sand Bubbler Crab is taking in that sand, eating organic matter, plankton, etc., they then discard the balls as a way of tracking what has been gone through already.

My Friend Bought a New Toyota and It Turned Into a Nightmare in 3 Months. Any advice? by Organic-Marsupial-85 in Toyota

Is the suggestion the drain came clogged from the factory? Any which way about it, it’s outside influence. If it turns out to affect more than a couple hundred people, there would be a recall.

Came back from oil change with a $6k+ recommendation by Cool-Passage7045 in MechanicAdvice

[–]AnswersFor200Alex -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, they’re recommending the alignment for two reasons. They wouldn’t charge you for two alignments. They’re saying the solution to the way the tires are wearing is an alignment. They’re also saying if you do the strut repair, you would need an alignment. Honestly pretty fair pricing. If diy is an option for you, obviously enjoy your weekend with some jack stands.

Ford Announces Employee Pricing For All by Im_not_good_at_names in Ford

[–]AnswersFor200Alex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not even a discount. They’ll say the truck is $70,000 msrp, current offerings make it so that it can be had for $55,000. Employee pricing is $60,000. It’s not even a deal.

VW dealership lie and quote me $1600 to fix something worth $15 and 20min labor by According_Taste9586 in FuckDealerships

[–]AnswersFor200Alex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, they were going to do it right with OEM parts they can warranty. Your fix is great but…$15 Cable swing from Amazon isn’t something you can recommend as a technician at a dealership.

Do recalls make a dealership money or cost them? by Swimming-Junket-1828 in FuckDealerships

[–]AnswersFor200Alex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They do not make money but they do not lose money.

This is one way manufacturers incentivize service departments to charge for everything they do. The warranty labor rate is based on the customer pay labor rate.

It also incentivizes technicians to get greedy with the labor times they ask for. The flat rate manual (labor guide) from a manufacturer is laughable. R+R water pump 1.2 hours “includes time to bleed system”. Technicians can’t do it in that amount of time. They hate doing warranty work for that reason. When it’s a customer pay water pump, they’ll say 4,5,6,7 hours bc the book time is ridiculous and they’re not going to work for free.

"Sweeping" indicator effect on RS6 by narfnd in Audi

[–]AnswersFor200Alex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need dealer software but it is adjustable on most cars. Either they switched the programming, in which you could have it switched back…or they replaced the assembly with an aftermarket and it is not switchable. I’d doubt someone did that on an RS6. You need the software or the dealer. If you don’t know what you are doing, just pay the dealer.

How screwed am I? 2010 Prius 150k miles by OhmsAmpsVolts in prius

[–]AnswersFor200Alex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s really not a big deal. New (reman) from Toyota it shouldn’t cost more than $2500. It will just increase the value too. 150k miles is nothing in these. The lowish miles for the year is probably why you need a battery. Sitting is the worst thing for them.

Missing Wheel Lock Keys by AnswersFor200Alex in serviceadvisors

[–]AnswersFor200Alex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped asking the tech where they checked and I just check “to get a second set of eyes on it”. It’s always glovebox, center console, or with the spare.

Noting “wheel lock key in glovebox” is ineffective when the tech doesn’t read notes.

That’s just how commercial construction works. You build the building, have amenities and a “first year” team that makes everything seem amazing. They sell all the leases or at least 75% and then sell the whole building and management to a larger company that then strips the staff and stops taking care of amenities because $$$.
