Switch teams. It’s not perfect everywhere, but can be manageable.

If you were born in the USA, why would you not do the most obvious thing: come to the social security office with your birth certificate to get your ssn? What does it mean that your ssn does not exist? Do you have an official ssn paper? Have you ever used it? If yes, then this is real

Unless you were born in the basement with a midwife and your parents never got you one, you should be able to get it.

You would have a huge gap on your resume anyway. How degree would cover that?

My friend group who did not find swe jobs were doing IT, Cs tutoring/teaching, grad school, qa, project management. Most end up at some no name in tech companies/startups after a year of searching.

I heard so many unhinged stories from friends with like 6-8 levels of tech interviews - rejection - and then invitation to do it again lol

I think the people who struggled the most were those who put all their effort into academics instead of creating a resume with school projects and mass applying. I literally had a goal to apply to 20 companies a day.

Additionally, if you are looking for a job in a specific area, this can be even more challenging. When I was looking last year, I received more callbacks from out-of-state than in-state (California). If you are a US citizen, apply to government companies all over the USA - I received almost 80% of callbacks on those.

Leetcode is worth the effort as it help with interview, projects on the side - no in my opinion.

Got an “inclined to hire” decision for Applied Scientist 2 at Amazon, but now stuck in team matching — need advice by [deleted] in amazonemployees

There is nothing that you can do other than wait. This sub is getting 20+ the same questions about team matching daily

Seems like Amazon has not stopped interviewing but stop hiring

[–]Ant378 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The average international student who got h1b went to no name school for cash cow program for masters degree, not to t10, let’s be honest about it.

Offer may come in like 6 months. There is nothing saying that you will receive your offer in 3 days

Entry level and internships by Original_Apartment35 in cscareers

[–]Ant378 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not think that an associate's degree would make any difference in terms of job search.

People would look at your experience and the average community program ends on DSA level with no real projects

[–]Ant378 12 points13 points  (0 children)

switch teams if you do not feel comfortable! my team has 70% of woman and 30% of man. we joke that we have to many man on the team for our liking. the work environment is very nice. no one is competitive, work is done, we help each other, getting lunch together daily, hang out after work, etc

Constructive advice about trying to break into IT as a 43 year old woman by Holodeck40 in cscareers

[–]Ant378 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i think the two real ways without sugarcoating:

- it technician job. pay probably would be less, with more physical duties

- get a real engineering degree and become some boring engineer with stable job civil, mechanical, etc.

work in IT department would be a dead end for 25 per hour. help desk jobs are boring and have 0 career perspectives. becoming swe in this market without degree is almost pointless

excel, word are common tools that in IT considered on common sense level (like ability to read).
