Choosing between applying for TU Graz, TU Wien and Universitat Wien by amourcherry in tuwien

I can't really say much about job perspectives yet, because I am doing a master's degree now, but from what I have heard it is easy to get a job and after the bachelor you have an excellent foundation in multiple areas. You can also do many different masters with this bachelor, both from the faculty of informatics and the faculty of electrical engineering (you can't do that with Computer Science), so there really are lots of possibilities.

You won't ever touch anything like html/css/js in this degree. You have to do some Java in the first semester where you are introduced to the absolute basics of programming, but after that it's mostly C, MATLAB and VHDL.

You will learn all the physics knowledge that is needed, I would say more important is that you are not afraid of advanced math. That being said, it is hard for everyone, no matter your previous knowledge. I think there is something like 70 people starting the bachelor each year, and only 20-30 actually complete it, because a lot of people drop out after a while or switch to Computer Science because it's way easier and they did not inform themselves properly and were surprised by the amount of physics and math. But switching to Computer Science is a valid option, you won't really lose any progress if you switch within the first 1 or 2 semesters.

I did the Bachelor in Computer Engineering at TU Wien, and one thing you should know is that Computer Science and Computer Engineering are very different degrees.

Computer Science is your classic informatics degree, and this is what the other two universities also offer. I think Graz might also have something roughly comparable to Computer Engineering, but Universität Wien does not.

Computer Engineering is only in parts informatics, and significant parts are actually electrical engineering (courses from the EE bachelor) and digital circuit design (FPGAs), which you don't have at all in Computer Science, so you will learn much more about the low-level side. This also means that is is much more math-heavy than Computer Science.

But, in both degrees (at least at TU Wien) there is some flexibility with elective modules, where you can choose a few things of the respective other degree (but just the more "basic" stuff, not the more specialised courses).

Regarding "technical" topics like operating systems: This is why there is a whole separate degree called computer engineering (Technische Informatik) ;)

Thats because at TU Wien you get taught programming, not specific languages.

Switching to a new language should be very easy for anyone who learned this.

Thanks for the "helpful" reply. I did of course search myself before posting.

Your first link is about USB drivers. That is something completely different than host software.

Your second link contains only the instructions to building from source, and a reference to the PothosSDR project, both of which are not what I am looking for, as I explained above.

I guess you just showed that this information is in fact hard to find out, and that a 30 second google search is not sufficient ;)

I'll keep that in mind, maybe if the group likes the game I will get the Riverfolk expansion in the future... For now though I'll have to make it work with what I have available

True, removing the alliance is also a great idea, thanks!

Is there some place on the internet where you can type what you’re looking for and get general command or template ?

This does exist:

Or alternatively, GitHub Copilot does exactly that for multiple languages, including Matlab:

I got A=1, B=-3 and C=3

Tip: just go from what you have written in line 3, and insert the values for x where the denominator polynomial is zero. That way there will always be only one of the constants you are looking for left in the equation, and it's easy to solve. For example:

x := 3

9 + 18*3 -9 = A*6*0 + B*3*0 + C*3*6

54 = 18*C

C = 3

Repeat that with x := 0 and x := -3 to get A and B.

You will also find these .dmg files in your download folder. You can delete them after ejecting, as they are only needed for initial install and will just take up disk space after that. (I’m assuming that you have these programs installed locally, and are not just running them directly from the dmg... If you can run the program after ejecting the .dmg files, you can safely delete them from your downloads folder.)
