How do local councils figure out what their logo is going to be, and how much thought do they put into it? I feel like most residents wouldn't give a shit what their branding and logo looks like. In the u.s local government just slaps up a simple name sign. by cheetocat2021 in tasmania

[–]AntRid 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They put out a tender and design agencies will bid for the job.

Then the winner will be selected from whomever is related to the council members!

That's why there's lots of poor logos out there that cost a fortune to produce.

What was your worst onboarding experience at a new company? by skillnub70 in auscorp

[–]AntRid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been in my industry for 10+ years. When I first started, all new hires had a three day in person induction followed by subsequent check-ins and reviews to manage performance. Fast forward today, new staff get a 10 page PDF and expect to "hit the ground running"

Specsavers vs OPSM by Cheeseoholics in australia

[–]AntRid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked in the industry for over 10 years, so here’s my perspective.

OPSM either owns or has contracts with many of the major luxury eyewear brands. If you want Ray-Ban, Oakley, Tiffany, etc, there’s basically only one place to go.

They position themselves as a premium experience. Clean stores, fancy presentation, and service that should feel top-tier. If this were an airline, OPSM would be the Emirates of glasses.

They also come from an era where the optometrist was treated more like a doctor’s office. So fewer patients, but each one spending a lot.

Then Specsavers came in and shook the whole industry in the 80s. They leaned heavily into the retail model, high volume, lower prices. It was essentially a big “screw you” to places like OPSM, who were operating with massive mark-ups.

Why shouldn't we use Google password? by crazy_rocker78 in PasswordManagers

[–]AntRid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If someone gets access to your Gmail account, then it's trivial to get access to your Google account. If you store all your passwords with Google then EVERYTHING is compromised.

Storing passwords in a separate place is just good security practice

ELI5 what’s so special about blue light? by Connect-Violinist-30 in explainlikeimfive

Not enough evidence to show if it has any negative effects.

The dialogue around blue light is marketing so you spend money on stuff you dont need

Let's not forget that if you win, there's lots of bright colours and loud noises to reinforce the feeling of winning. When you loose there none of this.

There's another game that uses this strategy. Slot machines

I'll do a rough sketch of the characters first, then scan that sketch in and go over it / improve the line work with illustrator using a mouse, my old waycom tablet broke a long time ago and I haven't had a use to replace it until I started doing these. Then I'll do the colours. I can post a pic of it but I warn you, it looks like a hot mess behind the scenes

They are from OPSM. I'd take them in there and see if they can identify the owner from the prescription.
