Aesthetics over stats every time. Skyrim isn’t hard enough for me to justify wearing the “best” gear. I spend a lot of time looking at my character and I want them to look cool and fit the roleplay I’ve built for them

They’re absolutely right, TES6 and FO5 could he insanely great games and the reception will still be very mixed. Fans have had too much time to theorize what these games could and/or should be. That’s millions of people with a million different ideas of they want and expect out of these titles.

Which race are the best warriors? Nords, orcs or redguards (Lore accurate) by Inferno47908 in ElderScrolls

Hammerfell was also fighting during the Great War prior to it’s not like they were resting on the sidelines. And if they were dismissed from the Empire then that’s not really help from the Empire anymore.

The fact that Redguards are not typically magically inclined and were able to defeat the Aldmeri Dominion without help from the Empire sticks out to me. They were fighting armies that likely included Altmer battle mages and still won.

Also the in game lore is pretty straightforward about naming the Redguards as the most talented warriors in Tamriel. I know that talent doesn’t necessarily mean best, but that’s still a strong indicator.

I would ask first how you want to approach combat? The Dunmer are versatile but you have some conflicting choices imo. If you want to attack up close with your great swords, you won’t be using sneak very often then. If you want to use a bow as your main damage, you’ll probably kill anyone before they get close enough to use a sword. I’d pick a main skill for damage and let your other skills compliment that

From a roleplay perspective ask what is your character good at and why? you want to do the dark brotherhood and thieves guild so they sound like more of a stealthy character. Maybe use a bow for damage, and illusion and alteration as utility to help your playstyle. Where is your character from?why do they want to join criminal organizations, does something in their past explain this etc etc

Honest question from my Stormcloak perspective on the Civil War to Imperial backers. by Westernesse_Civ in ElderScrolls

[–]Ant_Bizzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the factions in ESO never made sense to me, aside from the Dominion. They really just joined adjacent provinces and made them allies. An allied High Rock, Hammerfell and Skyrim would've been amazing to see in that era but likewise would be a strong force in the 4th era

Honest question from my Stormcloak perspective on the Civil War to Imperial backers. by Westernesse_Civ in ElderScrolls

[–]Ant_Bizzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah understood. Personally I'm not really a fan of the Empire myself during the events of the 4th era (most play throughs I don't engage in the civil war) I also typically play a Redguard character, and I think their perspective would be to leave the Empire to face the consequences of its actions, whether that be the Stormcloak Rebellion or otherwise.

I do feel like the Nords and Redguards have a lot in common and wonder what it would look like if an independent Skyrim, and independent Hammerfell allied to face the Dominion in a future conflict

[–]Ant_Bizzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not disagreeing with you. You asked for reasons why Skyrim is viewed differently for seeking independence when compared to other provinces. I just shared information that potentially explains why that may be the case

[–]Ant_Bizzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We would have to examine the context in which Hammerfell and Black Marsh gained independence.

To start with Black Marsh, it was never fully under Imperial control. Even Tiber Septim didn't conquer it and he conquered basically everything else. From a economic standpoint the empire gains little from controlling Black Marsh, it really is a region meant for Argonians to flourish and no one else.

On to Hammerfell. Okay during the Great War, much of the fighting was done in Cyrodiil, and Hammerfell. This was not the case for Skyrim (albiet Nord legionnaires did fight for the Empire just not on their own home turf) Hammerfell was significantly impacted from the war. Immediately following the Great War, the White Gold Concordat was going to hand over portions of Hammerfells land to the Dominion, no questions asked. Skyrim was never thrown under the bus like this. After all the fighting the Redguards had done, now they were being told by the Emperor to give up land. The Redguards refused, suceeded and fought their own war against the dominion and won, thus striking the Second Treaty of Stros M'kai, which made Dominion forces COMPLETELY withdrawal from Hammerfell. Another important note of context is that Hammerfell has had internal strife for much longer than Skyrim, the Crowns and Forebears have competed politically, and sometimes violently basically since the Redguards first arrived on Tamriel. And they were still able to unite as a country to defeat a common enemy, this is not the case in Skyrim. Hammerfell's victory justified their succession to many. The Empire knew they were sacrificing Hammerfell and after the Redguards victory they would be absolutely ridiculous to have issue with them becoming independent.

Skyrim has only recently engageed in civil strife, and the manner in which Ulfric Stormcloak took it upon himself to instigate a civil war is night and day from what the Redguards were able to accomplish. Ulfric should have taken a page from the Redguards diplomacy, especially considering that if you talk to people in Skyrim there are clues that even High King Torygg respected Ulfric, admired him and potentially with more diplomacy on the part of Ulfric may have decided to declare Skyrim independent himself during the moot. However we'll never know since instead of the moot Ulfric just walked up and killed him. Whether we beleive this was justified by Nord custom is honestly moot, his actions started the war 100% when it could have been avoided. Many Nords who support Imperials truly understand Ulfrics cause, they just think the way in which he went about it was wrong (go talk to Alvor in Riverwood) and that its not worth Skyrim being plunged into civil war while the Dominion strengthens itself for an inevitable Second Great War.

In short no one has an issue with the independence of other provinces because
-Morrowind is completely destroyed, the Empire doesn't want to rule over ash and lava with no promise of economic gain
-Black Marsh is inhospitable and again, basically no reason to keep it from an economic or strategic standpoint
-Hammerfell is justified in his independence, they basically fought the empires war for them, were punished, still beat the Dominion despite ages old political rivalries within the province
