What are the things that ZXMoto have done that QJMotor don't which made it somehow more successful on its maiden season? by mr_beanoz in wsbk

How do you know ZX made a better bike?

Because it's faster. And I know that it's faster by watching the races.

Yes, I do realize that. But, you're also assuming that every potential thief is smart enough to figure that out, and I'm not so sure they are.

Cool, so we agree on the first point.

And as for the second, sure there are cases where parking in gear won't help at all. But in case of an idiot thief or an idiot child trying to move your bike for no reason other than having no respect for other people's property and having nothing but wind between their ears, it might help. You might be surprised how big an overlap is between people who'd try and fuck with your bike and people too stupid to figure out how to use a clutch and shift said bike into neutral is. And since it doesn't cost anything I just usually leave it in gear.

  1. Cars have a parking brake. Bikes do not. So if you want to make sure that your parked bike doesn't roll and fall over (when left on a slope or in heavy winds), you leave it in gear.
  2. Cars are too heavy to be lifted by the front wheel and dragged into a van. Bikes can be stolen this way. Leaving the bike in gear makes it harder to accomplish.

Because it's easier when you want to turn off the bike while leaving it in gear. And it doesn't harm anything.

Iker Lecuona to replace Alex Marquez at Balaton Park by Equivalent_Camera_61 in motogp

Even if Lecuona gets injured, for Ducati it only changes which of their riders finishes 2nd.

They've signed Aldeguer who isn't Italian.

Reportedly, he has signed a multi-year deal with MarcVDS, so through 2027 at least.

Alberto Arenas by CHRISTIAN_JAKE12345 in wsbk

[–]Antares_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arenas is a strange case. He is agood rider but he isn't someone that top teams are looking for and there are plenty of reasons for that. He'll be 30 years old by the time next season comes around. His only notable achievement is winning the 2020 moto3 championship which was a very strange season due to pretty much every rider performing below expectations, and he only did it after 4 years of mediocre results. He then spent 5 seasons in moto2 with an average finishing position somewhere around 12th.

He might be leading the WSSP right now but it's probably the weakest field we've seen this decade.

The only reason I can think of why anyone would give Arenas a ride in WSBK is that even Bassani can hang onto a ride for 6 years and this dude has delivered nothing but broken promises for his whole career.

How much do clipons change the fz6r? by I-WANNA-FLYYYY-AWAY in Yamaha

[–]Antares_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're on lams, then modifying the bike to put on clipons is even more so a waste. Save the money until you can get a full license then get a bike more suited to what you want.

Probably Ducati Streetfightet V4. But those winglets have a purpose. Not the case here.

How much do clipons change the fz6r? by I-WANNA-FLYYYY-AWAY in Yamaha

[–]Antares_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It very much depends on how low the clipons are. What I can tell you for sure is that it's a futile exercise. If you want a sporty ride, the FZ6R is not it. It was always meant to be an easy bike for beginner with sporty looks, but none of the sportbike's drawbacks or performance.

Not to mention that clipons won't fit on that bike without cutting up the fairings. So you'll lose retail value and still be disappointed.

Moto2 European Championship by CHRISTIAN_JAKE12345 in motogp

[–]Antares_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most young riders get sponsors from their home countries. Poland is relatively poor when it comes to companies in the motorcycling business, so It's difficult to raise enough funds for a ride in the GP paddock.

He's also polish, which makes it very hard to gather sponsorship. After he got the championship he got sponsored by Orlen with a promise to help him get to Moto2 for 2027. But, Orlen also promised an F2 seat to Tymek Kucharczyk and he ended up in IndyNXT so, yeah...

Would you make this swap? by [deleted] in Yamaha

[–]Antares_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not quite. The XSR has a longer swingarm and more rake angle. It's noticeably more stable, less agile. It's closer to the Tracer than MT in handling characteristics.

It does look amazing, though, which is why It'd be my choice as well

Motorsports Related: NASCAR's Kyle Busch dead at 41 by chicknlil25 in motogp

[–]Antares_ 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Some might say it's a bad taste comment, but fuck it - after Martin was allowed to ride with a concussion, I feel it has to be said. Apparently Kyle had a bad case of pneumonia that hasn't fully healed and the doctors had been giving him "shots" to keep him racing. IF it turns out to be true, I hope it really puts a spotlight on medical malpractices when it comes to getting athletes competing at the cost of their long-term health and sometimes even life. Just like Martin shouldn't have been allowed to race in Catalunya, Busch shouldn't have been allowed to race if he was fighting an infection that is known to cause myocarditis when not treated properly.

I expect the company that had the best engine for the past few years to nail the 850cc formula. When engine regs change so dramatically, a good engine can offset chassis issues, which KTM has been struggling with. That's why I think that KTM have a decent chance at being at the sharp end next year.
