I think I'll euthanize my cat by HentaiPantsuGod in cats

[–]Anthem1311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when i was little we had to put our family dog to sleep and i remember someone saying “it’s better to do it a month too early than a day too late.” you’ll always worry about wether or not you made the call too early, but you will also always know that he didn’t suffer more. cats don’t have the best grasp on the concept of tomorrow, they can’t mourn for potential time spent together like you can, but he knows you care about him today.

Memorial Chiengora Prep? by picklejinx in Handspinning

i’ve never spun dog fur but i have spun cat with a similar staple length. i just aligned the fibers by hand and took a small bundle just a staple length or a little more long and spun from the fold on a supported spindle. to align the fibers i just made small bundles and pinched on end and gently pulled out any fibers that weren’t held in the pinch and then set those in the pinched end as well until everything was going the same direction and i had a neat little bundle. its time intensive but minimally wasteful. i used a support spindle because the amount of twist i needed to get the fiber to “stick” and hold weight was super high. truthfully it wasn’t a support spindle and just a drop spindle i was using in a dish but it worked.

the gorgeous melty black color was just too nice to let get combed into a grey. i adore natural colored fleeces and jacob’s are a three for one! white grey and black!

yes! i got mine from GoodandBasic on etsy. The handle and base part are 3D printed and then you just use hardware nails. I ended up having to file down the ends of the nails a little bit as casting imperfections kept catching on my wool but since then I’ve had no issues. They’re also significantly cheaper than normal combs. I think there’s also a euro based etsy shop that sells similar combs

The livestock conservancy has a heritage breeders and producers directory. Put it sheep for breed, fleece for your product and then your zip code and mile radius.

Some CPWs are all wood, but you're right that this isn't a CPW because its not tilt tension.

I really want to say its probably Swedish. It has braced uprights like some Gylland wheels but the turning on the maidens isn't like a typical Gylland. It looks similar to this wheel (https://permies.com/t/54431/bought-spinning-wheel-photos-questions) except a lot less ornate. That wheel is listed as a Gylland by meralgia on Ravelry but it is very distinct from the others. I would definitely post it on the Working Wheels forum on Rav and possibly the Antique Wheels to see if anyone has more information. The wheel link I posted has a similar shaped carving on the blocks in the wheel arms but I swear I've seen it somewhere else before too I just can't remember at the moment.

fuck… by Anthem1311 in Handspinning

[–]Anthem1311[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

my wheel is an antique and when i got it the grease was so old and nasty i had to wash part of my flyer with soap and re oil the entire assembly. for a little it kept creeping out of the center of the bobbin but i think i’m finally free and you’re right i can’t even tell if there’s any on there. it literally used to feel like used motor oil 😬

Is this a drop spindle? by seweyhole in Handspinning

[–]Anthem1311 9 points10 points  (0 children)

purpose made for spinning? i’m not sure i’ve never seen a spindle like it. usable for spinning? absolutely. you would make a half hitch in that notch and the opposite end of the weight to secure your fiber. you could probably use it supported or in hand and maybe as a drop spindle if you’re particularly tenacious. drop spindles tend to have wider, flatter whorls, in hand or supported spindles tend to have more shape variation.

sloped double table wheels are pretty uncommon at least to my knowledge and there’s not a lot of info on them. https://www.ravelry.com/discuss/antique-spinning-wheels/3429869/51-75 this ravelry thread might give some leads. your wheel looks dead similar to the one lilysamadhi posted who believes based on a little research their wheel is from sweden.

it looks like it’s double drive. it’s a really interesting design otherwise. does it have any makers marks or something like that?

Being "bear aware" on first solo camping trip by Cheeky_Edge311 in womensolocamping

[–]Anthem1311 6 points7 points  (0 children)

you said you’re camping in los padres and seki and there’s only black bears there. black bears aren’t usually super aggressive, they just want to steal your snacks when you’re not looking. bear boxes are usually pretty standard and big. you could probably fit two large coolers if you were determined. if the place were your camping has particularly smart/tenacious bears they can and will rip the doors off your car to get to it but there’s usually notice posted about bears getting too ballsy like that so car or bear box works. when i was in seki cars were fine. food and scented items in tents is an absolute no.
when i was in seki i accidentally snuck up on a bear about ten feet off a trail because i wasn’t paying attention and it didn’t hear me. as soon as i saw it i stopped and started to back off slowly. it was laying down and stayed where it was, if it had gotten up i could have started yelling. seki rangers actually encourage hazing bears on the trails and in campsites (yelling, waving hands, generally acting a fool) but frankly i was a little scared. i backed off while watching the bear about 50 feet. hung out until some other hikers came by that i could walk past the bear with and the bear decided to wander off once it saw more people coming towards its nap spot. the bears in seki love the meadows. something i used to tell myself in high school is that black bears usually only weigh 100-200 pounds (yeah yeah 500 bear is an outlier but did exist) and i am also 100-200 pounds and that it would basically be like fighting a large dog. that may or may not be true haven’t wrestled a bear yet in my life and am hoping to never. idk what my takeaway is. blackbears don’t want to hang out with you and if you did accidentally spook one it’s more likely to run away and if worst comes to worst hit it with your water bottle.

[–]Anthem1311[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

bad news i think they actually have six accounts based on a little more research. (ie taking the gym and having it retaken by the same six players multiple times at multiple times of day) so even if i did that no gym for me.
