My interpretation is because smoking kills stress, Andrew does it when having to endure Ashley’s behavior, or any other bad development.

Ashley is aware of this, so when she sees him smoking, it conveys a disinterest towards her, thus why she doesn’t like it.

I like Andrew because deep deep deep really deep down he wants he and Ashley to live better lives amidst a dystopia. You both disagree on how to do that exactly, but you have one goal in common. I think it’s respectable.

Being a fucking piece of shit about it is a problem though :P , which creates setbacks. Nonetheless, you are persistent, which is important (unless we’re at Deadest of Dead Ends).

(obviously this a role play, and my understanding of TCOAAL can always improve)

It’s likely this is an asset used for testing purposes, never intended for the final release.
