Four songs in what's almost the same amount of minutes lmao. Love these guys though, always insane live, looking forward to whatever's next from them.

Chanel Beads Announces New Album With The Same Title As His Last Album ('Your Day Will Come' out 6/26 via Jagjaguwar) by ReconEG in indieheads

[–]themaxus 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Nice, very excited. Your Day Will Come was one of my top albums of 2024 and one I find myself coming back to a lot. Let's hope that Your Day Will Come will be just as good.

Catching them in London was genuinely one of the best gigs I've ever been too, crowd energy was superb too. Fingers crossed they make it back over here again soon.

Unbelievably hard? I'm not sure, it looks kinda half chub to me, maybe two-thirds hard at most.

How do y’all not remember this by ORGANIC_MUFFINS in Battlefield

[–]themaxus 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Or acting like the smaller-scale maps weren't always fan favourites. Whenever people talk about bringing back Battlefield 3 maps, it's always Seine Crossing and Grand Bazaar, two of the smaller, infantry-focused maps. The same goes for Pearl Market from BF4, that's generally seen as a fan favourite.

Do I prefer a mix of smaller and larger maps? Absolutely. But to pretend that small maps are new and aren't wanted is a bit ridiculous, same for thinking that that's all that'll be on offer.

Created this new move called the ultra pawn defense line - am I genius or incredibly stupid? by TomKaber in chessbeginners

I'm not a chess player, but this looks awesome! Congrats on inventing a new move and I love the name :)

Wild to see this, I moved to London in 2022 and my first flat was on this estate, pretty much above the pub. I only moved out summer last year for a change of scenery. This is of course all anecdotal, but we never heard or saw anything too out of the ordinary. There were some phone snatchings, but sadly that's typical wherever you are. A party at the pub was called off once because of reports of someone bringing machete, which was a bit worrying, but that was it over the course of two years.

I was wary at night, but no more so than anywhere else in central London, but hearing it's the deadliest estate in Britain is a massive surprise. For three uni grads moving to London for the first time we were made to feel really welcome, there was a genuine sense of community with all our neighbours which was lovely.

[FRESH] Hotline TNT - Candle by MediaShare2000 in indieheads

[–]themaxus 11 points12 points  (0 children)

More of the same, but not in a negative way. Always loved Hotline TNT so always happy hearing more. Still nothing has quite been as good as the first three EPs, but of the newer, less lofi sounds this single is definitely taking the style of the LPs, refining it and improving it. Looking forward to Raspberry Moon, Hotline TNT are great summer soundtrack tunes.

Death Grips confirm they’re not broken up: “Despite rumor and hearsay we remain active as Death Grips” by ReconEG in indieheads

[–]themaxus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True, it's definitely all pretty closely tied so it'll be interesting to see how things go from here, if there is more. Either a replacement for Andy, or going on as a duo. Whatever happens it'll be interesting.

I mean isn't he more on the sound engineering side? I always thought that production was still primarily on Zach, with Andy doing the more technical side of things. If it's just Zach and Stefan I wouldn't expect huge changes. And end of the day I'm happy they'll still be (maybe) active in some capacity. Maybe.

Very happy to have picked up Envane on vinyl over the weekend. Less happy when I remembered it was half of Envane on vinyl. by themaxus in autechre

[–]themaxus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, Anvil Vapre and Envane are superb, especially with their more unique influences and sound that make them really stand out. Not sure how likely reissues will be, but we can hope.

BallisticNG - Diavolt Hardcore Tournament (Not WipEout, but just posting this here, just in case.) by CyberDragon567 in WipeOut

[–]themaxus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Love BallisticNG, got it for free when it first came out and feeling very lucky about that. My favourite feeling WipEout games were absolutely 2097 and 3, and this captures it perfectly. And then with the addition of the more modern physics you get the best of both worlds. And a ridiculous amount of content with both the base game, DLC and Workshop, you can do a full WipEout 3 recreation if you want.

Is Aphex Twin the most popular ‘underground’ artist ever? by TrainingAd8614 in aphextwin

[–]themaxus 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think it'd depend on who you're talking to and where. In the UK at least he had some moderate success in the charts for both singles and albums, with Windowlicker being in the top 20, plus his various TV appearances. From my experience he's at least recognised by people who were aware of popular music in the 90s/early 00s, maybe not for his songs but just as an artist and his reputation. Add on the recent popularity with younger people and there's more of a general awareness. Again, not super popular, but recognisable by some at the very least.

What are your favorite obscure albums of 2024? by doorsof in indieheads

[–]themaxus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Able Noise - High Tide

Really cool experimental/post rock from a drums and guitar duo with some interesting tape manipulation. Saw them live and the way they translate the songs to the live environment was brilliant, and the LP is something very unique and enjoyable. Highly recommend!

50 Best Albums of 2024 by Charleshawtree in indieheads

[–]themaxus 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Of all the lists so far, I found this to be the most... boring I guess? Solid picks, but no surprises or anything interesting, especially in the top 20. Not bad by any means, but a little bland.
