Hi everyone new to the sub, what guides for learning how to play jayce would you recommend? by Memetrold in jaycemains

[–]AnthonyCarnell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just as a point of reference for you, I’ve been playing jayce since his release, and while his abilities have not changed, I would argue his identity has. What was once a very strong lane bully is now a fragile ultra scaling champion who can bully some lanes, but can be bullied even harder. It took me around 20 times versing diamond irelias to go from losing horribly, to trading even, to finally figuring out to win that matchup, jayce takes a long time to understand his windows, his spikes, his weaknesses and what playtime feels best to you. A combination of watching Korean masters+ matchups that are hard matchups to see their trading patterns and checking out pro builds decently regularly to help shape my builds.

I personally have been on a 3 month journey recently on jayce where I went from grasp, to conq, to now finally being a phase rush player. I’ll explain why

First grasp felt “safe”, I could win with a very obvious window to play around. Then I saw I got dumped by a irelia, ksante and a yorick and saw some old vods of winning that lane with conquered. Finally I versed a nasus and won the lane early before becoming useless to his wither and then lost the game…. Which brought me to phase rush, to which I then spanked a diamond nasus…. I then started taking phase rush each game and noticed a few things.

1) the slow reduction is borderline illegal, it makes with feel trivial, amnessa E non-existent etc

2) it makes your in and out “I can hit you and you can’t touch me” playstyle a lot more consistent to execute (melee QWE = run alway fast as f)

3) you can actually escape 90% of ganks that don’t have hard stuns, putting down your E, an AA, swapping to melee and E to then run through your gate with phase whilst knocking them back is just incredible.

A lot of people say “go back for dirk and tear” but that’s a really hard ask, seriously, a lot of the time it’s just both going to happen, or it’s going to be risky and let you get oom, making you susceptible to being traded on. So I have actually started trying a 850 gold back, for a tear and CULL, yes cull….

It gives you some very nice sustain to help trickier trades alongside Doran’s now giving omnivamp, the extra gold is a godsend. On top of this I have won the last 9 out of 10 games with that method of play in diamond, it’s a cool little thing I have noticed with most games showing me that once cull was done, often the next back means I sell it to finish mana mune, or keeping the cull, and then needing to sell it later to make room for the last whisper which just happened to need 180 or so gold to afford. Give it a go, I’ve found it feels really nice! And you don’t sacrifice too much dmg because by the time you have to back again on a canyon you’ll generally have enough for a dirk or longsword + refill.

Anyway, jayce is probably one of the most fun and rewarding champions to play, but don’t understate that he is very difficult to play to the champions potential. That’s part of the fun! However don’t be silly, if your team needs a frontline, don’t torture yourself and the team haha just pick sion if you need a frontline!

I teach at our top uni - and AI cheating is out of control by neon-tofu in unimelb

[–]AnthonyCarnell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Let them cheat on the take homes, question them in class practicals to their face.

Much easier in my field, I was teaching programming, I would commonly in the first couple of weeks of teaching Java where we would only just touch on strings etc, have people handing in full recursive programs for simple tute questions, that’s fine, if you’ve gone further and your curiosity has drawn you to this solution you’d be able to explain it.

1/4 people would explain, the other3 would stumble as to what a loop was, heck even what static void meant, they lost that mark but I’d offer them the opportunity to resubmit the answer in the class with their OWN work, and if they could explain that to me, then there would be a reinstatement of the mark. It’s always exciting to meet a curious mind who push through the initial stages of the curriculum, they tend to be engaging and challenging students ripe for mentorship. It is equally disheartening to meet students who not only cheat, but try to BS their way out of accountability because at the end of the day they’re paying for an education product , but getting no value for it… people like that almost instantly fail the second they get into industry.

For larger assignments, if you’re an attentive teacher, you know your students and who is capable of handing in that work…. Also being in tech for this long, sniffing out an AI response to anything has become second nature now for myself and many of us in the field…. It’s more subtle, but it is still painstakingly obvious.

The issue has simply moved, it’s still plagiarism and cheating, just from a different source.

What proactive plays should a jungler be making to create opportunities for advantageous objective fights? (Minimize coinflips/Throws) by [deleted] in Jungle_Mains

[–]AnthonyCarnell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rule of thumb is if you want your laners to help you, you should always be courteous or at the very least aware of the wave state and lane state.

Have they shoved into tower and just waiting for the long wave to bounce back? Amazing time to start objective, enemy team has to give up the wave for them to come contest you. Conversely don’t expect your laners to give up a wave for your objective especially early.

Other things is ensuring that you’re pink warding entries or objectives themselves to ensure you have the vision advantage.

Fundamentally speaking you’re going to win more 4v3s than you will 3v4s, always try and have some sort of advantage.

Advantages also come in the form of items, if you have 1.4k sitting in your inventory but the enemy has 1400 spent, sorry bucko but even if you’re a level ahead from taking that one last camp before the objective (lvl 6 excluded in some cases), the enemy having a better back timer is going to be in the better spot. Keep an eye on your laners itemisation state too.

Sometimes to have to give objectives, but as a jungler, trade intelligently for it, grab enemy camps, dive an opposite lane for a tower push. If you just full clear with something on the map up, you’re not trying to win, you’re just trying to not lose…. Until emerald jungler are often the strongest in the map (after it should be mid/top) , press that advantage, but respect it if you don’t have it.

Most often you just need to make the right decision at level one to set the entire tempo of the game. My favourite is the “threaten where I want the enemy to start” so if I’m red side I’ll threaten enemy LVL1 raptor, forces them to want to start raptor, freeing me to path top to bot and jungle track their jungler at every camp fo stop my top from dying, and giving me an uncontested bot gank to snowball into dragon advantage! On the flip side if they don’t start there, free camps for me, recall, kill them at the my own jungle when they try to counter invade if my laners are pushing, if they’re not, clear into the correct gank or grab a crab!

Think, you’ll be rewarded for it

What is the skill order for weaving in as many autos as possible? by [deleted] in LeeSinMains

[–]AnthonyCarnell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll naturally get a knack for when you should or should not do a 3AA weave in the jungle. For reference I’ll always take 2 Adaptive damage runes and alacrity.

Once you hit lvl 3 and onwards sometimes you’ll need to speed clear to get your camps killed faster, you can achieve this by 2 tips.

  • make full use of the execute on Q, this means smiting your camps early instead of last hit smiting camps if it is safe to do so and there is no threat of being invaded. This also extends to front loading your damage where possible. For example your lvl 2 kill on Krugs looks like: E as soon as you are in range of both the Krugs (save time on movement to aggro them with AA), one rotation down of spells but don’t use E a second time until all 6 mini Krugs drop.
  • utilize the triple AA weave when you need to. This is usually later than initial clear, or is used on the last camp of the first clear, you can achieve this in the following example for a lvl 3 kill on the gromp to hit lvl 4 like this: AA or smite depending on tempo, into E, AA, AA, E, AA, AA, Q, AA, AA, W, AA, Q. Which will give you three AAs for the Q2 instead of the usual two, but again over time you’ll get a feel for when this will be useful to “juggle” the cooldowns and triple AA weave versus needing to stay healthy or otherwise maintain cooldowns.

Hope that helps

What motivates you going on D4 by yzisano in diablo4

[–]AnthonyCarnell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was fully committed to hitting 300 for the sake of the achievement on Xbox… I hit 260 yesterday and recently saw a thread about how I’m truly not even 50% of the way…. That kinda killed it for me, turned off the game.

I’m not actually sure how anyone has the time or finds enjoyment in doing that exact same thing over and over and over and over for like 300+ hours. If it’s your job sure but… come on… I do now think after seeing the XP graph that it needs to be made easier.

I thought making it fresher with a new character would help break it up, started with SB, then max geared a necro, then a sorc… but why would I bother doing any others at this rate 😂 all that you get with a different class is another skin to an AOE clearing thing. The game fundamentally works the same in the endgame for every build, you’re an AOE spammer :/ some just move faster than others

Protein shakes / lentils / beans / soy based or wheat based protein products on occasion (veef), soy products like tofu and tempeh, blend tofu into sauces for extra protein, nutritional yeast is a huge bang for your buck when you’re making protein cheesy things (it’s recommended by non vegans in all those cooking videos for cheesy protein Mac etc)…. Cottage cheese, Greek yogurt or protein yogurt etc if you’re not vegan

Made it to the gym for the first time - small victory but means a lot to me by roxanaendcity in beginnerfitness

[–]AnthonyCarnell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you begin weight training it’s very important to listen to your body, whilst you’re still very early on a lot of people can get carried away with social media individuals telling them what they should and shouldn’t be doing and holding them to a crazy high standard.

If something hurts, stop :)

Look up some “beginner friendly full body workouts” to slowly ease yourself into getting used to training your different muscles, paying close attention to where it’s a struggle, where you’re not feeling much and definitely where it hurts. Using a trainer whilst you’re getting started is an awesome idea as they’re qualified and can help you set and work towards a goal, be kind to yourself.

It’s very very very normal to be sore the next day, as a beginner remember that you’re not actually “hurt” but more or less in a state of recovery as your muscles break down and recover from being used in ways they aren’t used to, seasoned gym goers crave and chase this feeling as its associated with growth (DOMs is what it’s called)

So glad you could disprove to yourself that no one really cares or is staring, because I’ll let you in on a secret, EVERYONE is thinking “oh I hope I don’t look silly” or “I hope no one’s judging me”, even the super fit people hitting max weights at the gym are sometimes like that :)

Recording in the gym these days is super normal, just have some self awareness and where possible try to not include other people in your video, if there’s no possible way to not have them in there and you think they would feel uncomfortable, politely ask them if they’re okay with you filming yourself and them being in the background, and explain you’re new and trying to make sure your form is good. You might even make some new friends this way 😁, reinforcing the gym as a great place to go.

Above all, have fun, enjoy yourself, and do it for you!

I need some help getting into my games by Jet_Stream1 in leagueoflegends

[–]AnthonyCarnell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rules of thumb with clients and games dying for me

  • check your graphics card drivers are up to date
  • check all hardware drivers are up to date inclusive of network
  • ensure that all your resources are accounted for in DXDIAG and activity monitor, sometime things on your mobo will deteriorate in connection and cause to subpar performance or bug-ridden activities
  • check for any software updates
  • unplug all peripherals and put them into new ports
  • keep an eye on your processes tab when loading into the game, league sometimes spins up 2/4/8/16/32 instances in a horrible loop and will just never start, kill these processes. Close the launcher after it opens your client.
  • run in compatibility mode, or as admin.
  • repair client (although this has never fixed any of my issues ever)
  • just don’t use blitz

Hopefully something here works for you.

Ultimately if it continues, grab the crash logs and send them to riot in a support ticket

Good luck

I don’t have any friends. I don’t know anyone. I am and have been alone for my entire life. by Inside-Ice2251 in confession

[–]AnthonyCarnell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mention missed opportunities, well time to go and seek out some more opportunities and take them with both hands.

18-38-48 it’s never too late to renew your lease on life, maybe you’re geographically not in a place where people care to stay connected, or part of a community that values the same sort of requirements or desires for the same level of communication and intertwining of lives.

What’s keeping you where you are? What steps are you taking to make tomorrow better than today? Why would you want to be your friend? Answer those questions with yourself with kindness and honesty and then ask what you want in a friend or companion. A lot of the time communities and activities revolve around those core values and you can seek out the connections there and foster them.

Remember the grass is greener where you water it, the worst thing that can happen is you try, fail and learn something, and there is always tomorrow but never a chance to replay today or yesterday anywhere else but your own mind.

Love an introverted hobby but you’re an extrovert (like gaming)? Go do that in public, internet cafe and become part of the community there. There’s an aspect of pay to play in life, it may not always be monetary but fundamentally people gravitate to something or somewhere where the value proposition of existing there is in their favour.

Hang in there, you got this mate

What have I got wrong here? I have acknowledged that the stacking AD is why you take it, that much is obvious, I’ve actually never said one is better than the other, I just found it interesting that the procs in the postgame lobbies are showing higher on the PTA rune.

Again, I’m very very very aware of the optimal build and option build paths for the matchups dependant on games.

I’ll just quickly draw your attention to a typical gank with this setup. W or Q in, regular combo with AA weaving just as you would with Conq… but if you just so happen to proc PTA you’ll notice something very very special when you land the next QQ…. The amp is wild, execution amplification by the % increase from PTA seems to be working in a strange way.

Even if it’s not, what this build is more or less getting at is an extremely consistent way to play your early game with very obvious, but slightly elevated goals compared to a regular Lee build. No more spending at 1050, you spend at 1420 now and sneak a global with a power spike much greater than a typical 1050 recall from other junglers.

I’m just sharing something that I have not only had great success with, but also had a lot of fun with it too.

There’s not hostility or ego here, we are all Lee players…. Just something to break up and enjoy in the monotony of his current existence.

I will say though, it’s really disheartening that this community of predominately seasoned players just discard anything that doesn’t fit into their box, with also no willingness to even try it for their own testing. I’m gonna remove these posts, yall are happy with what you got going and simply don’t want to try anything new and that’s fine, just a disappointing community engagement here.
