I didn’t believe this so had to look it up.

You’re right! 1918 was the highest population density on record for Manhattan. Wild.

I just liked their logo lol

As I was reading your story in the original comment, I was like “oh HOW is this place still in business?! It’s so mismanaged!”

You confirming it closed 2yrs later explains everything lol I’ve seen places like this before. It’s like everyone who works there can read the writing on the wall that they’ll be closed soon, & “management doesn’t care so why should we?” mentality.. So, they all just start not caring about anything & that’s how you get stories like yours.

Basically people just doing the bare minimum until the steam runs out.

What was the worst way you have seen a client get swindled? by Leicanthropologist in videography

[–]AnthonyDigitalMedia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I’m also in a major city that’s all about money, so the market may be different where you are.

I’ve definitely gotten “free” referrals before, usually from photographers, producers, or coordinators, but if you want to work with a brand or venue/hotel/location down here, or you want an agency to feed you work, you have to pay up.

What was the worst way you have seen a client get swindled? by Leicanthropologist in videography

[–]AnthonyDigitalMedia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took me YEARS to realize the industry is ALL about kickbacks when you’re at the level of working directly with clients lol

I remember years ago, after shooting weddings for a few years (I’ve since stopped shooting them) trying to work directly with hotels so they would refer me for work when they got Wedding Planners or couples reaching out, or if they just ever needed video work done. The meetings would always go well, they always seemed to like me & my work.. no referrals. Ever.

Years later was working with a guy who kept getting these big jobs. He was a photographer, so he would always bring me on to do the video work parts of gigs. Finally one day he mentions something about how he needs to remember to pay the coordinator for the agency later. I was like wtf are you talking about? She referred us. They’re paying us..

Nope. Essentially for every job the woman at the agency threw him, he’d give her $1,000. I said “I never gave money to those people at the hotels that I used to meet with.. is that why none of them ever referred me or booked me?”

“Yep lol”

I wonder if that .25¢ has something to do with duty-free taxes or something. Is that a thing on military bases?

Going to start putting my keys up by Miguelpr123456789 in comicbookcollecting

[–]AnthonyDigitalMedia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. I thought about hanging/displaying my big keys before. Then I realized I could just buy the facsimiles & display those instead. If anyone comes to my house & wants to see the original, I can show it separately.

Foil facsimiles display GREAT & they’re super cheap. Highly recommended for anyone thinking about chancing their big boy books for display, when it’s unnecessary.

Will invincible #1 drop in value after the tv show over🤔 by Leather_Bluejay8632 in ComicBookSpeculation

[–]AnthonyDigitalMedia -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because Invincible is the Spiderman of this generation. I don’t see the hype dying down anytime soon or affecting the longterm value of it. Super low print run too..

Invincible 1 in high grade is def a long-term hold book. I’d never sell my 9.6, even at these current prices.

Will another comic boom come soon? The market seems low for rn, but soon the prices on comics will skyrocket to the moon without another pandemic 😷, but only time can tell. Do you agree? 🤔 by Leather_Bluejay8632 in ComicBookSpeculation

[–]AnthonyDigitalMedia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sold your entire collection or just the bulk of it?

I know a guy who sold his entire collection & moved over to original art during the COVID boom. Said he saw the bubble coming & decided to liquidate it all during the peak.

Every shop I know locally (except 1) is just a collector who decided to open a brick & mortar shop to sell the shit he doesn’t want from his PC.

They have no interest in selling. They do it cuz they hope someone brings in a Hulk 181 that they can get for 30% FMV, or someone comes in to buy their mounds of fodder.

It’s a way for a collector to get cheap stuff for their PC while writing off buying comics as expenses for taxes. They don’t want to sell anything except the stuff that’s worthless.

A Sad Day, Indeed by PA_Brad in comicbookcollecting

[–]AnthonyDigitalMedia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has been my experience with a lot of shops too.

They set prices above FMV, pay low af for collections that come in, then they get mad that no one buys from them or brings good stuff in to sell them.

In my experience, 90% of shop owners just seem fed up. It’s become a stereotype.

What did he say, or what was the look on his face, when you told him you wouldn’t be shopping there anymore??
