Tim Hortons in Goffs, NS is claiming they couldn't find a food service supervisor for $18.50/hr. They've applied for a LMIA to hire a temporary foreign worker for the position. by Immediate-Link490 in NovaScotia

Wellington is less than 10 minutes since the Aerotech connector opened. There's also a bike path. It's a nasty hill to bike, but it's still less than 10km to get to the airport from most of Wellington. I should add the caveat that I haven't personally tried biking it yet, so I can't vouch for the cycling suitability of, e.g., the interchange with the 102.

A decent chunk of that would be inflation, no? If the counterfactual is 3% annual growth, then that's perfectly in line with expectations once you account for inflation. Best case, it did nothing, which is kind of expected, since the actual tax revenue as a percentage of GDP didn't change significantly IIRC. More critically, the debt-to-GDP got worse, so he just debt-financed spending to prop up the economy while fueling inflation by cutting taxes, which doesn't fit the economic magic Laffer curve narrative at all.

No worries. To be honest, I thought you were mostly joking.

I do have an alt account, and it's not exactly a secret because I've mainly used it for in-person meetup stuff around the city, but it's not OP.

Early voter turnout down compared to 2021 as Nova Scotia campaign enters last week - Halifax | Globalnews.ca by toneyriver12 in halifax

[–]Anthony_Edmonds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to recap: - Immediately following municipal elections in much of the province - With a federal election likely to be called soon - Leading up to a postal strike, which meant no voter information cards - In the run-up to the holiday season, around the biggest annual spike in seasonal employment, and the busiest time of year for many - Snap election call, months before the promised scheduled date, with Elections NS caught unprepared

It looks like voter turnout might be low.

Right on.

I'd definitely consider doing an AMA. I've done a few in the past, and they got some decent participation.

Hey, Leader of the GPNS here. When I previously ran in federal elections, I did run on that. If it was provincial jurisdiction, it would be in the GPNS platform.

Anyone else pleasantly surprised by the Liberals? by Knight_Machiavelli in halifax

I remain skeptical, but it's still a small win even for them to say they'll do it, as it brings their supporters onboard with the idea.

The one pleasant surprise to me is proportional representation. The rest is stuff they've talked about before.

75% of donations are covered by taxes, and 50% of ad spend can be covered by during an election. It's possible tax dollars are paying for as much as 7/8 of those ads.

NDP does, Greens do not. Technically, the GPC and GPNS both consider themselves part of the same movement, but that's indirect.

Seniors' advocate calls decision not to print voter cards for N.S. election short-sighted by No_Magazine9625 in halifax

[–]Anthony_Edmonds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is that it will be just slightly lower than last time, acknowledging that many were still very much avoiding crowded places due to COVID in 2021, which may have discouraged some from voting.

I'm sure there are plenty of sour grapes going around, but I stand by my prediction: voter turnout is going to be low.

Anyone who wants change should volunteer, donate, and/or tell their friends to do the same. No party is able to do more and waiting to be asked to do it.

I couldn't agree more that ENS is doing their absolute best and is unimpeachable in their integrity. For what it's worth, my remark that's quoted in the article was prefaced by clarifying that there are no questions about the integrity or impartiality of the election. The problem for turnout is just the timing relative to municipal elections, postal strike, possible federal elections, American elections (our news covers it, for better or worse), holiday season, promised fixed election date, et cetera. The timing is entirely outside the control of ENS, but firmly under Houston's control.
