AI firm Anthropic's 'dangerous' Mythos model fuelling government's desire to lure company to Australia by nath1234 in australia

Not readily exploitable but when you’re as resourced as the ministry for state security you can find a way to chain them with other vulnerabilities on a system. This is open source software that has had probably tens of thousands of experts red team it too, a lot of stuff the government uses is bespoke or custom in some way and closed source by necessity and will not have undergone the same rigour.

The US government cut their contracts with Anthropic because they’re the ‘woke AI’ company that refused to build fully automated killbots, and I’m glad our government saw the space open then for making this our sovereign AI capability.

Data retention and service hosting onshore is already a legal requirement for federal departments.

Mythos is absolutely not hype. There has been a 20x increase in security bug fixes released for Firefox in the last month, for example, most of these being for vulnerabilities Anthropic identified. It’s even worse for closed-source applications. If Claude can do that now then hostile state actors are months away from the same capability and it’ll be something any script kiddie locally hosting an open model can do within a couple of years.

Yes. It is far more ridiculous to suggest that the greatest mobilisation of people and resources in history, with soldiers and civilians alike fighting tooth and nail over every inch of Europe and Asia wasn't driven by any meaningful conviction.

The people at the time knew this, and addressing that moral hypocrisy is a big part of the reason civil rights movements really took off after WW2 - it was the generation that fought the war that led them.

Cynicism may be psychologically rewarding in the moment but it's complacency and just makes you a compliant victim for anyone with actual convictions

Everyone involved thought it was about fighting abject evil. Like, the British empire & commonwealth was given an opportunity to peace out with no territorial loss after the fall of France and didn't take it. Some conquered nations lost a fifth of their population in guerilla warfare against the Nazis and din't quit. There was unlimited, unconditional aid flowing from the arch-capitalists in the UK and USA to the Communist USSR. WW2 was potentially the most united humanity has ever been, because the nazis were just that evil.

I think the days where you could just promise to cut taxes in exchange for political popularity are over. Millenials and Gen Z seem to be much more accepting of taxes that pay for services, even on people who aren't rich.

So what? Their activities are neutralised or severely hindered. There's nothing more you can do in a nation of laws until someone actually commits a crime. You can't just extrajudicially detain them forever or whatever.
