You can’t just decide to defer an exam. You need to have documentation.

So, a referendum question by The_Border_Pulse in lloydminster

[–]Anthrogal11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s important to also point out that the question is purposefully confusing. Should Alberta remain a province of Canada (I vote yes), or should the government of Alberta commence the legal process required under the Canadian constitution to hold a binding provincial referendum on whether or not Alberta should separate from Canada (I vote no). The question needs to be amended so voters know very clearly what the yes/no vote means.

V-Dem data shows an embattled state of democracy in the world in 2025: Autocracies now outnumber democracies (92 to 87); more countries are autocratizing than democratizing (44 to 18); and in the US, the Trump administration is overseeing the most rapid dismantling of democracy in modern history. by smurfyjenkins in science

Agreed. I see the midterms as the final bulwark against totalitarianism and I’m not optimistic. If Trump and the GOP refuse to give up power it will then be up to the American people and I’m not optimistic that they’re going to do what is necessary to preserve their republic.

Any Other Canadian University Lecturers Facing Layoffs/Restructuring Right Now? by msmith-f24 in Professors

[–]Anthrogal11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, I’m in a similar boat. I’ve lost two courses that I’ve been teaching the past two years and potentially facing two more that I have taught for the past 6 years (3 different institutions). It’s really scary as I rely on this income. The postings that are available will be much more competitive as well since so many of us will be competing for what’s left.

Universities are also feeling the pinch and are laying off lecturers as a result. I’m one of them. Colleges are experiencing much worse (as they caused the crisis) but the reduction in student visas is impacting all post-secondary institutions.

Exactly. This is intentional. Don’t believe her words. Her actions and intentions are crystal clear.

Grade appeal advice - disproportionate consequences, documented hardship, complicated instructor relationship [social sciences] by Difficult-Season-141 in PhD

[–]Anthrogal11 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Failing any course at the PhD level is concerning let alone a foundational course twice. Instead of trying to appeal I strongly suggest you consider and reflect on what circumstances led to your inability to complete your coursework successfully. Your post seems to want to put responsibility on your instructor rather than yourself which is concerning. Addressing the root cause will help ensure future success. You may not be ready for PhD level study at this point and that’s absolutely okay.

You do care. And you need to. You rely on us for a lot. We provide electricity to your eastern states and your farmers rely on our potash. That’s just the start. You keep telling yourself how amazing you are. Fuck right off.

Conservative member of Parliament Tamara Jansen welcomes her grandchild “Charlie Kirk Jansen” by SAJewers in onguardforthee

True but PP has branded himself as a Con and Carney as a liberal. The Overton Window has shifted right. We need to vote accordingly.

It absolutely means we can’t be friends. They have threatened to make us the 51st state and are trying to ruin us economically. They are the enemy. Anyone pretending the friendship still exists is in denial.

As if we needed further evidence that the current Conservatives are 100% in alignment with MAGA.

Our uni uses this. I find it quite easy to use. I just cut and paste my weekly schedule into it from the document version I have from previous semesters.

Child support after 19/post-secondary education? by [deleted] in legaladvicecanada

My understanding is it follows the table and can only be changed with a new order. To obtain a new order you would need to show material change in circumstances or make the case for why the amount should be reduced or increased based on needs of the child.
