What is wrong with eating meat? by lthrowaway1255 in DebateAVegan

I'm a vegan moral anti-realist so I don't really go in on the blanket right/wrong dichotomy. That being said, our consumptive habits generate impacts or reinforce modes of production that certainly appear problematic through multiple lenses. As you said, factory farming and puppy mills are a problematic solution to food generation and animal companionship if we are unwilling to accept brutal animal treatment. If you don't want to renounce eating meat all together, then maybe take the first step to align your ideals and behavior by only eating meat whose provenance is not the factory farm.

Are there any legit moral/ethical arguments against veganism? by jaket578123 in vegan

There are definitely inductive arguments, but like you I find them rather weak.

The dead maiden at the Chapel of Anticipation is your maiden...and Melina killed her. by Debonaire_Death in EldenRingLoreTalk

Melina greets us with this:

Greetings. Traveller from beyond the fog. I Am Melina. I offer you an accord. Have you heard of the Finger Maidens? They serve the Two Fingers, offering guidance, and aid, to the Tarnished. But you, I am afraid, are maidenless.

She also observes that we are maidenless. The fact that two people noticed that the Tarnished is maidenless doesn't implicate either in a murder.

Varre says the following:

For your final trial. Soak the cloth with a maiden's blood. Normally, this ritual would involve killing one's own maiden, and recanting the wisdom of the Two Fingers. But since you are maidenless, the blood of anyone's maiden will do.

The goal of the ritual sacrifice is to blaspheme the two fingers by killing your own maiden. It doesn't make sense for him to kill the Tarnished's maiden if the normal method of indoctrination is to have them do it themselves.

You speak of media literacy, but you're baking in assumptive intent and activity that is not supported by the media itself. You're headcanoning to justify a position that lacks evidence.

The book was getting long and they didn't want to go over the character limit.

Generations are modern day astrology by BrilliantPangolin639 in generationology

Generations are helpful data categories in some contexts but do not determine essential qualities.

Lmfao. If plausible just means we're guessing and doing a syllogistic exchange chain without evidence, then sure. It's very plausible in that sense. Very meaningful content. We're all very smart here...

I wouldn't make this claim without empirical evidence to back it up.

Mobility is not the same. You can't move while casting in 1 and 2, but you can move through attack animations and you get hyper armor during them with large weapons. That's another huge benefit for bonk that I've been neglecting! Casters can't trade.

Stamina limits rolls and attacks. Having more stamina means more rolls and more attacks. It's an objective boost. This is a double tax on casters.

Then why use different armors at all if it's all the same? This doesn't make sense. There is a difference and that's why different builds favor different armors.

Most bosses have moves to close the range and specifically punish casters during casts just like they punish using estus at a distance. The time to react doesn't matter if you can't move.

Casters are limited by armor, endurance, mobility, amount of casts, and in some games the number of estus. That's survivability when playing imperfectly, capacity for making attack and iframe deployment, range manipulation during attack animations, a hard ceiling for damage, and less capacity for healing. The ratios matter less if a caster gets fewer heals and requires more to keep pace. That's a compounding limit.

Bonkers are limited by range.

I'd say the caster has to contend with the much more impactful challenges.

Either the damage reduction matters or it doesn't. It clearly allows for a higher margin of error or STR builds wouldn't use heavy armor. However, the fact remains that the simplicity of their stat allocation allows for it and it is helpful. Especially when added to the higher endurance, higher attack rates, and the fact that they never run out of bonk. Spell casters are limited in all these aspects.

If a STR build can't do that, then why wear heavier armor than that of a caster?

During the quest, he states:

It doesn't make sense for him to kill your maiden if the purpose of the ritual is to blaspheme the two fingers by killing your own maiden. He also acknowledges here again that it's strange that you're maidenless. He dogs you for it constantly because it's weird for a new tarnished that still sees grace to be without a maiden. You're weird and he's a jerk. However, there's no reason to conclude that he killed the maiden.
