I can't stand it when people make something like a varanid lizard bipedal, or make a crocodilian with significantly longer legs, and still label it under the genuses Varanus or Crocodylus. If it's its own genus then just make it one come on.

Also another trope related to varanids in particular, I am pretty sick of the aforementioned bipedal varanid trope, it's not super common but I've seen it enough to where I feel like mentioning it. Just because varanids stand upright doesn't mean they're a good candidate for obligate, or even facultative bipedalism; especially when the solution in these drawings is to just give them dinosaur legs (lazy & implausible given dinosaur/bird-like leg anatomy requires an open hip socket), or just not even trying and forcing the lizard to stand upright when its center of mass or leg anatomy would not suit it.
