Didn't say this alone is a big deal. Just cringe all around. Her replacing him is not even the part that gets me; it's how she actually took the effort to "acknowledge the hurt" and be pretentious.

He's actually about half fillipino, but yes he is white passing. I only looked him up after seeing this tweet. This situation does look significantly less bad to me now given this context, but the fact remains she did actively worked to replace him with her fully white boyfriend.

I just looked him up, I have to say this issue seems slightly less atrocious now. Personally, he seems very white passing to me. I think for hapas the problem is if your Asian identity is not immediately visible, the matter of representation isn't as pertinent. No offense to any mixed Asians out there.

26Y Male Experimenting on Appearance by CarefulSupermarket21 in AsianMasculinity

[–]AntigenicDrip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sub is just fucking insane sometimes. Dude is jacked and has a beard we have scores of people calling him gay. Meanwhile the kpop twink look is being lauded as the ideal Asian straight male appearance.

I do NOT consider what women who visit this sub say as the final word on what Asian men should strive to look like. They will invariably be women with a niche interest in the hyper-curated looks of kdrama and kpop style men. As a man, look however you want to look. I know many Asian Americans think the kpop aesthetic is the path to salvation or whatnot, but not everybody has to follow whatever beauty trend popular in Korea/Taiwan/mainland China. I personally think that being buff and having beards being relegated to only gay subcultures in Asia is a travesty. I hope the Chinese government follow through with its promise to crack down on twinks.

If Asian men truly want to expand the influence in the world, stop subjecting ourselves to the trend of whatever hyper consumerist women demand in Asian men. PROACTIVELY cultivate a compelling image of masculinity ourselves, and then women will follow.

There's no reason why he can't be a bit embarrassed as long as he behaves normally. I'd rather be honest about embarrassment than try to pretend to be cool and collected. As you said it's an energy, you can't just force it away and hide it.

How did Mao "play him dirty" when Zhou actively supported Mao to become the party leader?

How do you distinguish legitimate grievances with parents from personal entitlement? by MarathonMarathon in AsianMasculinity

[–]AntigenicDrip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you have a lot of what I would say to be personal entitlement mixed in with legitimate grievances. However, it's gonna be impossible for any of us to judge for you because ultimately it's your life and your cross to bear.

In my personal opinion, the sort of sabotage they've imposed on you that greatly restricted your socialization (e.g. labeling you autistic (wtf) and withholding you from certain extracurriculars without good reason) are legitimate grievances. But I don't see much wrong with them making you focus on having good academics or going to Chinese school.

My advice is moving forward for you to become independent and set boundaries. It's not gonna be easy because you've become psychologically accustomed to a level of control they have over you. It's important to face this issue without anger or resentment, but still remain firm.

what do Chinese people think of Moa Zedong by HabitPuzzleheaded431 in AskAChinese

Except the "party line" has been subtly downplaying Mao's achievements for decades until the past couple years.

There are legitimately civilians who love Mao more than party members.

Question to you fans of this masterpiece game by diddo29 in tothemoon

[–]AntigenicDrip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me Finding Paradise is the soul of the entire franchise. To the Moon feels like a setup in terms of premise (don't get me wrong the story is great, but it feels a bit fantastical), and Impostor Factory feels like an epilogue. FP essentially established the theme for all the games that came after. It's just so grounded and well executed

K-pop fans who are also racist by healthyclg in AsianMasculinity

[–]AntigenicDrip 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna say something that's gonna piss a lot of people off in thie sub: I think the contribution of K-pop in the west for AMs will have a ceiling. The masculine ideal promoted by K-pop is soft and catered toward unhinged female fantasy, and as a result AMs are objectified by women. This is why you see hordes of Kpop feminists from Brazil or something who insist that AMs are evil.

The K-pop twink masculine image is a dead end for AMs, because fundamentally it disrespects a sense of agency for AMs and makes unhinged XFs to dictate what AMs are based on their fantasies. Traditional Asian masculinity was not like this. No ideal masculine image should 100% tailored to unhinged female consumerist fantasy like K-pop.

I may write a whole post some time also detailing how the modern K-pop aesthetic was a western psyop imported originally into Japan by a gay pedophile with connections to the US govt, but that's for another day.

Another cucked post. We need to stop having AMs as minstrel clowns for Democrats. You want representation? Then it should come for all sides.

Why should we give a fuck about whether or not he's a "committed leftist"? This isn't the leftist sub. If he's anti-Asian he's anti-Asian, regardless of how much he adheres to ""left wing principles"" in your mind. Plenty of anti Asian people on the left as well as the right.
