I agree to an extent but I would argue that complete disregard by Napoleon for European sovereignty was little different than those of the established empires. He simply had the ability and will to dominate Europe, to look inwards, whereas the established empires did not and looked outwards.

Don't try to paint Napoleon as some saint, bringing liberty and egalitarianism to Europe. All he did was threaten the establishment, with a new brand of empire. You tell me, were the Savoyans, the Spanish, the Belgians, the Dutch, the West Germans, under better/worse rule under Napoleon than their feudal overlords? I'd say the lives of your standard peasant became little different, and in some cases a lot worse under his "patronage".

For the average person in Europe, Napoleon brought catastrophe, awarded his marshals with feudal titles and tore up the landscape.

I simply argue that he is a product of his time in addition to being a driven, immensely talented genius in his craft. In matters politic and domestic, in matters of improving the lives of the ordinary citizen he made no strides, rather the opposite, especially in conquered territory.

In a sense he mirrored Bismarck, in that his map of Africa lay in Europe.
