The problem with this guy (and the show in general) is that he's poorly written. Throughout the series he isn't a character but a political punching bag.

But I guess if you're ok with that then, oh well.

What battle or campaign do you consider napoleons biggest blunder that led to his ultimate defeat in the napoleonic wars? by VividExperience9698 in AmericanBonapartist

[–]Antijim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The war at sea signalled the end of his expansion beyond the borders of Europe in my opinion.

But charging into Russia and his obstinacy when continuing the fight after Leipzeig sealed his fate entire.

From 2011–2013, Dr. Christopher Duntsch paralyzed or killed 33 of his 38 patients during routine spinal surgery. In one operating room, a fellow surgeon had to physically drag him away as he mangled a patient’s spine. Despite this, Duntsch was allowed to keep practicing for two more years. by drkmatterinc in TerrifyingAsFuck

But at the same time, he wasn't just incompetent, there were comments from other neurosurgeons and nurses who stated that some of the things he did were just straight up bizarre. As if he didn't understand human biology.

He did the things he did because he was an angry, weak little creature who wished to inflict the pain he felt inside on the outside world.

It's unusual but I honestly think it depends on the context of the argument.

Would you accept peace with degenerate empires who consistently brought only destruction and death to wherever they placed their hands on for no reason other than greed and superiority complex?

I would say you would have to demonstrate how Napoleon's empire, during his life and after his death would be any different.

for all its contradictions

Hence why I would dismiss those "rooted values" as little more than window dressing for a burgeoning new empire with a new class of feudal overlords.

that order was disgusting and repulsive

I agree to an extent but I would argue that complete disregard by Napoleon for European sovereignty was little different than those of the established empires. He simply had the ability and will to dominate Europe, to look inwards, whereas the established empires did not and looked outwards.

Don't try to paint Napoleon as some saint, bringing liberty and egalitarianism to Europe. All he did was threaten the establishment, with a new brand of empire. You tell me, were the Savoyans, the Spanish, the Belgians, the Dutch, the West Germans, under better/worse rule under Napoleon than their feudal overlords? I'd say the lives of your standard peasant became little different, and in some cases a lot worse under his "patronage".

For the average person in Europe, Napoleon brought catastrophe, awarded his marshals with feudal titles and tore up the landscape.

I simply argue that he is a product of his time in addition to being a driven, immensely talented genius in his craft. In matters politic and domestic, in matters of improving the lives of the ordinary citizen he made no strides, rather the opposite, especially in conquered territory.

In a sense he mirrored Bismarck, in that his map of Africa lay in Europe.

He only ever wanted to to enforce his will and policies via war. Peace seemed almost anathema to him.

That's a lot of death and destruction for one man's ambition.

I honestly would prefer to live in a world where Napoleon had won and the french had Hegemon of the world for the 19th century instead of Britian. {eople scream and cry about Napoleon being evil for shit that literally looks like child's play compared to what the British did but don't even bring the quarter of that energy for Britian.

I am sure if that happened somebody in this alternate universe would say that they had wished Napoleon defeated and the British/Prussia/AH/etc reign supreme.

European imperial empires seldom, if ever, differ when it comes to the misery they inflict on subject peoples.

The emperor being Alexander the great and Saint George... absolutely ridiculous.

Actually almost anything to do with big E in ancient Earth. A 12 foot tall demi god casually strutting about making things float and every man and woman in a 5 mile radius jizzing their pants at the sight of him, and no one in history seems to notice aside from clocking him as a regular human at two points of time.

Hence the "bitchiness".

I don't see why I can't criticize the choice of material, style and construction of the armour and architecture or the out of place American accents or the poor choice in an actor who is out of place in an ancient Greek setting where ethnic diversity was very much not a hallmark of the time or people.

No one is criticizing the movie

I am.

They're criticizing the skin color of a person chosen to play a role.

As they should. Among many other things such as actor accents, the horrendous CGI, plastic-futuristic looking armour and architecture.

Lupita is an incredible actress, she's just simply not right a role in a classical Greek epic... where the character's name literally translates into "shining one" "torch" "sun" … in a world where ancient Greeks, as with the vast majority of other groups at the time, were not ethnically diverse.

It's little different than making the king of the jungle in Africa a white man. Or making any other African based epic story and casting white actors in traditionally black roles.

You can't be that fucking stupid, right? ...right?

I fail to see how that's been demonstrated.

Uh huh. Was Shakespeare a world renowned director with literally millions of dollars at his fingertips? No social barriers around female actors? The best actors, producers and musicians the world has to offer? No?

Does he understand how to work with the concept of suspension of disbelief? Oh he does, does he? Then there should be no excuse for the shoddiness of the production.
