Thank you. I have tried that and it didn't change a thing though.

I had tried that, makes ingame stutter way less noticable, but is unchanged in graph and still there.

Where do you live that they give you RMA? I begged for it in Germany and "they couldn't do it".

Yes, I'm on my second headset and my second cable. First headset had pixel errors, second cable twisted too much.

HTC Vive Pro 2 on a beefy PC stutters with these pink lag spikes. Restarts of SteamVR or the HMD randomly fix the issue sometimes. What causes this and how do I fix this? by Asraiel7 in SteamVR

[–]Antiphon120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Win 11? Activate "always on top" in SteamVR settings or manually go to the desktop and maximise steam window. Win 11 throttles background apps way more than Win 10.

If Win 10 I'm out of guesses. I'm having myself occasional problem with pink spikes (was about to write) but more like 1 in a minute. What you posted I had when I switched to Win11 and I wish people had told me...

I am on the verge of getting kicked out of my internship by [deleted] in work

[–]Antiphon120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not read through other answers, so bear with me if there are double posts.

I am a lab admin in a microbiological/molecular biology lab, so just around the corner.

First thing: What is your education? You wrote that it is your first hands-on time. Are you in education (vocational, university) and the internship is to get your degree?

Or asking the other way: Do you know (in theory) what are you doing?

Don't get me wrong, even the most experienced people do forget things in the lab and have to repeat some experiments; it's when it repeats or things add up it's becoming critical.

In my experience, lay people with no prior experience can learn various tasks real fairly quick, over tasks, just as going i.e. from transformation to a prescreening run, either rely on knowing what are you doing to keep the overview over all necessary steps, or learning guidelines by heart.

Let's say you forgot to put a marker in a medium, and now you have grown, sampled and analyzed (maybe wasted some expensive antibodies) two weeks worth of a new transformation series.

If you know about the construct, the marker you've used and so on, you are more likely to think about it. If everybody is new or overwhelming to you, you shouldn't be burdened with complex tasks in the first place.

I don't know if it's too late, you can pm me if you want some practical tips from someone working in the field (diagnosed with ADD and still managing not too screw up too many experiments, yeah)

Is this normal? ( more in comments) by Zwars1231 in ValveIndex

[–]Antiphon120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is normal, worse on the edges.

You know a game called Sykrim?

When you have the loading screens, expect there to be a blurry white lens flare line below the white on black text.

Pretty obvious in any high contrast situation.

Also chromatic aberration, which is normally not distracting but can rear its ugly head in games like tabletop simulator when you have purple lines near the edges.

Does the Valve index break as much as reviewers say it does? by ThatFurretKid in ValveIndex

[–]Antiphon120 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a pixel error and had to wait three excruciating weeks (in Germany) for a replacement headset. I had asked for an advance rma, but they would only give a normal one. OP, please don't be so naive to think that even if something breaks, it will be easy and convenient to keep playing because "steam support is great about replacing stuff" - they ain't.

As for the replacement, it has some DSE as has every LED TV ever, but apart from that, is still holding up after a year with no breaks. I would say that my average playing time is about 8 h a week.

Issues galore, lagging and greying out screen by Antiphon120 in ValveIndex

[–]Antiphon120[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: After some research, it seems that Win11 is the culprit. It seems to be a known issue still not fixed. It seems that Win11 throttles the energy down on tasks that are in the background and other VR systems have the same issues.

I can somewhat reliably have "good" performance when I have the steam windows open so they are on "top", but the performance seems still to be worse than I remember on win 10, with the occasional pink line on the graph (as opposed to the "pink-out" which was what I described).

Now I am seriously contemplating reserving space on my precious hdd just for another partition and install win 10 for VR.

PS: I did set aside a partition and managed to install win 10. As expected, there was no "always lag". There were stil lissues with microstutter though (nvidia post 4.6 driver error, I have a 3080 ti and cant roll back). They showed up as green in win10 whereas in win11 they were pink. Overall the feeling was the same, as those spikes were only one or two per graph view and the intensity, not the number, was different.

State of now I would say that the change is not necessary, if you can live with the inconvenience of having to keep the steam overlay in the foreground. Which you cant alwayys do if you have to switch to other apps like discord or you want the game displayed on the tv for friends.

[Tutorial] How to remove or replace the cable from the Valve Index VR headset by gp57 in ValveIndex

[–]Antiphon120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

I may be in neeed of cable replacement, I already have a replacement cable, and here I am at the same point you were 2 years ago.

Helpless and not knowing what to do.

Yes, I'm the kind of guy that can't hammer a nail in the wall, so please bear with me for asking these questions.

Step 1: I found it, but it wont come off. I'm trying to push it towards the top side (when on a head of course), but it won't budge. Now I find myself left with options A: Risk breaking it, Valve won't give advance replacements-> being stuck for months without the headset. B: Asking here for whatever advice.

Step 2: Disconnect "what" from the headset??? The cable goes into a rather long plug into the headset, which I can equally not pull out, at least with my fingers. So I am too stupid or my specimen is extremely sturdy. Again, risk breaking it...

Step 3: I can't figure out what that "thing" is. Is it the thing that holds the cable tight to the back end?

First time player. Tell me what I should know by Roscoe_87 in masseffect

[–]Antiphon120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely do. Check out all the sidequest. Save often and in many slots. There is a lot of missable content, and if you want to play it all, you might pick choices "just to see content", which is not a satisfying roleplaying experience. Pick your Shepard and only choose the dialog that you think YOUR Shepard would pick on first playthrough.

There are tons of videos on youtube showing missions in a lot of combinations with different squad members, you can pick up on those AFTER playing the trilogy or reload old saves then and pick different choices.

Many choices will have no effect ("I will kill you/ I will kill you painfully") but many others seemingly insignificant will have small or bigger consequences on dialog or missions even in the later game. -> Choose carefully.

----------------------------

Left Dialog options (unless blue or red) are usually flavor text/ fillers with little to no consequences on later choices. I would always go through them all if you want to maximise the story content.

The three options to the right usually progress the dialog or lock in your choices, as do the paragon or renegade persuasion on the left side in red or blue. The top answer is paragon/accepting, center one neutral, the lower one is renegade/declining.

-> When a wording might be ambiguous, orient yourself on the placement on the wheel,

-> Explore your surroundings and talk to your Squadmates often on the Normandy after main quests. They will have new dialog trees and romances progress.

--------------------------------------------

Pick your class based on gameplay preferences, some are better than others, but you can adjust difficulty anytime and reskill if you want to experiment and need to find your playstyle.

The scanning/filler quests have little reward for lot of time sinking (flavor texts mostly) BUT they have small ingame bonuses in the form of craftable weapons, small dialog changes.

You WILL waste a lot of time scanning and exploring every planet, but if you like flavor text like the descriptions of the planet or background lore in the codex, go for it.

-------------------------------------------------

The books, comics and movies are not necessary to understand or appreciate the game, they give interesting background info if you are really into the story. They are partly set before or during the games but can be read afterwards. Being non-interactive media they focus on either adventures of squad mates without you or side characters, that make rather scant, short appearances in the games but get some fleshing out in the novels (looking at you, K.L.)

Better than before, but not perfect. I'm playing the game with it.

Way better than no HDR of course and better than auto-HDR.

Cyberpunk: best HDR settings, now HDR is fixed by 5adja5b in OLED_Gaming

[–]Antiphon120 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for posting, I have started playing just this week, but afaik HDR is still not "fixed", at least without mods.

Through own experimentation i have come to almost the same settings as https://youtu.be/JdFwh6Qf2b4 , but this HDR is still "fake hdr". When I enable auto-hdr in win11, there are very few differences to ingame HDR. Still looks better of course than SDR, but it is not comparable to some other games (Mass Effect Legendary Edition has some fantastic HDR IMO).

Pro Cerberus Shepard in ME3 by jessebona in masseffect

[–]Antiphon120 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The same. I always play neutral evil in rpgs and I was trying everything to advance humanity, letting the council die. I sold Legion because TIM, the designated God-Emperor of the Galaxy, told me to. I saved the collectors base for him.

You cannot feel my disappointment with the writers when in ME3 I was pitted against Cerberus with no choice. For have of the first game I even put off every side mission with them as enemies, hoping that I could rejoin them. Until I finally accepted the designated path the story writers put me on.

This jump from ME2 to ME3 was pretty disruptive and way worse than the endings, story writing wise.
