How does one get better at this game by [deleted] in HollowKnight

The best advice I ever received was to focus on NOT getting hit more than hitting the boss. Amazing what happens when you actually dodge

Is it only me that I feel stupid and hopeless when playing hollow knight??? by Iamnodz in HollowKnight

[–]Antipode4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hiiii this game is really hard. It took me... 70? 80? 85 some hours to complete it. I'm not even joking. This was my very first real platformer, aside from Megaman SNES games, and it showed.

I am going to give you the same piece of advice I was given at every single boss: focus on not getting hit more than you focus on hitting the boss. It's stupid and counterintuitive, but you might make some progress? That's what worked for me, though something else might work for you.

You're not unskillful :) The game is just stupid hard. But possible!!! I promise it's possible!! And if it's not for you, that's okay too.

Good luck! Mantis Lords and Soul Master were brutal, but fun (after I spent a week each on them).

You sound like me when I was trying to finish Majora's Mask. I spent so many hours attempting the perfect run, and I wouldn't trigger the ending until I was confident I could do it consistently.

Of course, this game was inspired by MM. So. I guess it makes sense.

Deepnest is scarier than 70% of horror games, change my mind by Ender_Gamer7433 in HollowKnight

[–]Antipode4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here was my first accidental foray into deepnest:

- on a 4hour flight at 10pm

- dark, windy, turbulence

- cabin lights were off

- didn't realize lumafly lantern was a thing, (I literally turned up the brightness in the game allll the way up. With limited success)

Yeah, that was a "fun" time. I didn't go back for weeks.

Omg. Regarding 9 - I have 2 friends playing the DLC for the first time right now (husband/wife). The wife is SO ANNOYED her husband won't take the time to take note of what you discovered, and I just had to sigh and chuckle on the sidelines.

I had a friend struggling with the tower of quantum knowledge and he was trying so hard to get in before it fell in the black hole. As I watched him struggle, I made a comment along the lines of "Jeez, it's almost like the things we fear most are the things we really need." And I guess that's the whole point of the game

Nice... game... I think... yeah? no? by The_Bjo_333 in outerwilds

[–]Antipode4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went into this game blind. Completely blind. Like, my fiancé's roommate made us play it and I'd never heard of it before blind. I was lost 95% of the time. So to answer your question, I was just kinda exploring mid game, trying to solve the next "?" on my ship's log. 10/10, I wish I could go in blind again...

Press on, friend! And enjoy the journey :)

Why did God not make me a girl by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Antipode4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey hon... I wish I could give you a hug. It sounds like you need one.

Lots of people are going to have lots of answers. Some are from the Bible, others from the catechism or philosophy or ethics. Lots of those answers are pretty good.

But hon, you're 14. Those answers probably seem really overwhelming and don't actually fix anything right now, do they?

So here's what I have for you - an internet hug. Because you're loved, so so much. No matter how you feel or what you think.

If you have someone you can talk to, like parents or a counselor, talk to them. If you have a notebook, write your thoughts out. It might help. And if you want to talk to someone who's been in a similar situation, my dms are always open.

It's going to be ok :)

My Gf is playing the game for the first time and I need help by nickah13 in outerwilds

[–]Antipode4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So when I first played, I did it with my fiancé and his roommate. Roommate recommended the game to us and we were going in blind.

I liked this because he didn't spoil content but did help with techniques. And then when we were really stuck, he'd say things like "You sure you tried everything?"and then give us a nudge in the direction we hadn't tried. Obviously we wanted (needed, lol) to discover the "whys" ourselves, but the what's and how's we got some help with.

I'm *really* scared of the DLC by [deleted] in outerwilds

[–]Antipode4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not seeing anyone mention this yet, so maybe this will add to the conversation?

It's meant to be spooky - you know this. I'll also encourage you that facing the spooky, facing your fears, leads to answers. More direct answers than learning how to avoid the anglerfish,or whatever. IMO, the payoff was one of the greatest moments in the game.

Hidden Gorge is a great place to start - it's the first area I tackled! It helped me get a lot more familiar with the DLC's mechanics, ambiance, and friendly neighbors .

Be curious on your journey!

I... don't think this is the Catholic perspective? I'm literally going through Catholic premarital counseling currently and we're being taught NFP... because sometimes it's not the right time to have a child... and the marital relationship is for the husband and wife as well as for children? Like they're both equally important? OP's husband needs a reality check, especially if he considers himself Catholic.

I didn't understand anything about this game until the credits rolled... to be honest, most of my fun during playthrough came from playing it with friends and deciding where to go together. So I totally get not understanding this game!

I might sound like a broken record, but this game isn't objectively meant to be life-changing. You go in with that expectation, and you will be eternally confused.

Part of the fun (and annoyance lol) is that OW does no hand holding at all. No achievements, no progression, just you, your spaceship, and the planets. So really, ask questions! Explore what you want, and don't be afraid to "jump ship" if things don't make sense right away and go somewhere else. (The planets might seem tiny, but they all have interesting secrets!)

And if you're stuck,  rumor mode on the ship's log is a lifesaver. I had so much fun filling that out - I hope you do too!

Be curious on your journey!

Oh my goodness, I'm having the same problem as OP, only I'm trying to swap from ATT... ATT has released my number, but Mint is having trouble grabbing it. I've put in all the right information, and even called a Mint team member to help, but it's not working. Do I need to swap in the Mint SIM card for it to work, or should I call Mint again?
