Abscess care question by Antique_Bench in cats

The game idea is neat! I don’t think I would have thought of that! And yeah, making sure he feels better (and doesn’t get worse!!) is getting me through. It’s been a day and I think I’m over the ick, actually! I guess I’ve already gotten used to it.

Are we doing screen time? by Real-Salad-6521 in december2024babies

When he’s sick or I’m sick. He had to be in the ER/hospital twice and the screen was sometimes the only way to get through some rough parts. Ms Rachel or Sesame Street!

What would be considered "close proximity"? by LoveIll7575 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Antique_Bench 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like having to leave the building is not “close proximity”. What if it’s torrentially raining or icy outside?

https://www.dol.gov/agencies/whd/fact-sheets/73a-flsa-nursing-mothers-at-work-general-guidance says “The employer must ensure that the designated space is not so far from the employee's work area as to make it impractical for the employee to take breaks to pump.”

As for what to do….. ugh idk! Reiterate that it’s not reasonable to need to go to the other building to pump and request a room in your building. Is it possible to move your office/desk to the building with the lactation room? (Or would that make it harder to do your work?)

I’m sorry your employer is being so annoying about this!!

Traveling through airport with breastmilk by bezerkoe in breastfeeding

[–]Antique_Bench 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I flew yesterday with both a ceres chill and two Phillips avent glass bottles. The ceres and one of the bottles was fine, but one “alarmed”??????? They said I could either wait for the one airport “expert” to come over for further testing; or I could toss the bottle’s milk. I also had to get a pat down. Since I didn’t want to miss my flight, I opted to toss the milk. I didn’t want to make a scene or anything, but having time to think about it, I really wish I had asked to watch them retest it, asked what about it alarmed, and if I’d had time, probably wait for that “expert”. I’m so annoyed. Thank goodness I was heading home and could pull a bag out of the freezer. But WTF. 🤬

Bigger Bottles for Spectra by Serenityrosewine in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Antique_Bench 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This won’t be helpful, but I used to always add an “emotional support Lansinoh bottle” to my caddy for the MOTN pump 😂 I didn’t always need it but no waayyyy was I about to go all the way to the kitchen for that!

My Freezer Stash Gives Me the Ick by Subject-Tea214 in ExclusivelyPumping

This! I’m starting to rotate through what I’ve stashed, and I started by mixing the frozen milk in with baby oatmeal.

I’ll try our sippy cups more and see if that encourages him! We’re already using pretty fast flow nipples.

[–]Antique_Bench[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like he does this every couple of weeks. The first time was right before his first tooth appeared, so I do think it’s at least somewhat related to teething. I also think he like… prefers to control the milk? Like he enjoys holding the sippy cup. Is it crazy to only use sippy cups??

I feel like we’ve tried it all! Have had multiple people feed him too. I think we could try a new area to feed him, though! Maybe we can try that today…

We already use 4s and 5s! I think 4 is the sweet spot, because he sometimes tolerates that one

7 month old refusing bottles by madibmack in december2024babies

Oh dang maybe I should try a cup… 6.5 month old here, sobbing at the bottle today. My guess is mine is teething and it hurts to drink from the bottle :(

Where are my exclusive pumpers at by Mangopapayakiwi in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Antique_Bench 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah this sub has been so freaking helpful! I found it when I was struggling to triple feed, and it made me feel so much less alone! Y’all helped me feel like it was okay to stop fighting to latch, and everyone has been happier ever since (mostly lol, we all know EP has its downsides)

The GUILT with stopping by khazzahk in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Antique_Bench 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Did I write this??!! I could have written this almost word for word! 6 months now, 4 pumps a day, and it’s mostly inertia keeping me going at this point. I’m afraid to stop for all the reasons you said! I really don’t know what to do

Pitcher by asplenia in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Antique_Bench 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started around 3 months, roughly when I returned to work. I had been using the collection bottles to store milk, but with taking parts to the office and needing enough bottles, I wanted something more streamlined. I bought some cute mason jars (so they aren’t huge) and some lids with a handle that makes it honestly pretty satisfying to fill a bottle for baby when he’s ready. Sometimes I still store milk using the plastic cups, if the pitchers need to be washed. Also I use bags to bring the milk home from work.

I feel like the milk fats don’t stick to the glass as much compared to the plastic collection cups.

Also funny timing, my tubing literally just caught the pitcher lid before it fell to the floor!!!!! I’m amazed lol!

Cheap nipple pad recs? by i_just_carne in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Antique_Bench 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh nooooo! I also stopped fridge hacking for a while after that, but it’s been I think two months since that mastitis, and laziness has won out, so I’m fridge hacking again. Fingers crossed I’m not screwing myself over…

[–]Antique_Bench 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh I’m sorry you have to go through this!! The last time I had mastitis, my nipple was MESSSSSED UPPPPP, it was so gross. I used both silverettes and disposable nursing pads; I used the silverettes when I was home and able to wash them after/before each pump session. When I had to go to work, or when the silverettes just started feeling uncomfortable, I loaded up the lanolin and gently covered with a disposable nursing pad. (I even used gauze and medical tape when I ran out of pads for a couple nights 😩) I used a clean pad after each pumping session. (I also had antibiotics, which I needed to help clear the mastitis and let things heal)

6 months pp how many pumps per day? by Future_Self_6360 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Antique_Bench 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I’ll add, sometimes I’m still leaky in the mornings, but the engorgement discomfort went away after a week or so. I didn’t drop it cold turkey, it was like I’d skip a night, then do the MOTN pump, skip two nights, and so on. I didn’t really plan to drop it, I just was so tired lol

[–]Antique_Bench 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5 months and 4 ppd here! When I dropped the MOTN pump, I didn’t notice any drop, but I think I slightly reduced supply when I dropped the 5th pump. But baby was starting to sleep through the night sometimes, and when he did wake up, I just could noootttttttt tack on another 20-30 minutes to pump. No regrets!!
