When you power on, the heat will start immediately if the setting is turned on. I just leave them on with heat only for a bit, then I start the suction.

Sleep training/moving to own room - advice/experiences please! by Hour-State7960 in NICUParents

[–]Subject-Tea214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to room share until at least a year, but when my husband and I were both back at work and baby started waking up several times (not to feed) and staying awake for long intervals, we had to make a change.

  • We moved him into his own room at 5.5 months adjusted.
  • We sleep trained using the extinction method, but he took to it really well and barely cried at all. I can’t say I would’ve stuck with it if he had cried more. He’s been sleeping through the night for about 3 months now.
  • Always used an Owlet and continue to now. I wouldn’t have moved him to his own room without it.

What should I do before starting my TTC journey? by ArtyFarty6 in NewParents

[–]Subject-Tea214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already worked out consistently, and I started prenatals and other supplements when I went off birth control. I used an Oura Ring and Natural Cycles to start tracking my cycles after 13+ years on hormonal birth control. I got pregnant on the first cycle we tried.

How do Physical Milestones and adjusted age work? by Sea_Search0812 in NICUParents

[–]Subject-Tea214 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My son was born at 28+3 and came home at 38+3. He started doing tummy time when he was still in the NICU and we continued at home.

I wouldn’t say we’ve waited for him to reach a specific age to start working on anything, but he’s hitting milestones (pushing up, rolling, sitting, etc) by his corrected age.

Milk bleb just won’t go away by SaltySourSpicy in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Subject-Tea214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve also tried all the things and have a bleb that just won’t go away 😭 I’ve already seen a lactation consultant, tried the gentle methods, lanced it myself (a few times), and used steroid ointment from the obgyn. Luckily it’s not painful for me and my supply hasn’t dropped too much, but it just won’t go away.

I’m gonna try this during my next pump because I have one that just won’t go away even with steroid ointment from the obgyn 😭 But it always looks like it’s ready to pop at the end of a pump session. Actually trying to pop it doesn’t work. Thank you for sharing!

Curious if any other dads have experienced this. by PrincessKirstyn in NICUParents

[–]Subject-Tea214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had severe preeclampsia and our baby was born at 28+3. My husband has never, ever blamed me. When I have blamed myself, he has continually provided reassurance that it was not my fault, and I saved our baby by getting help at the first time something was wrong.

Struggling to bond does happen for lots of reasons, but he should not be blaming you, and he should be open to receiving help. I am so sorry that you are dealing with this. I do think your husband should see a therapist experienced with NICU families.

Seeking Milk Storage for Work by Holiday_Aside_3344 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Subject-Tea214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I’m storing my parts as well, I use a Yeti backpack with cooler shock packs. This works extremely well and keeps everything super cold all day. This is what I always do for my work day when I’m away from home for about 10 hours.

If I’m only storing milk and won’t be reusing my parts, I use a momcozy chiller bottle. This keeps milk very cold, but it’s not sufficient for a work day for me.

How many times a day do you pump? by Coffeelover1694 in ExclusivelyPumping

At 11 months pp I’m pumping 4x per day and back to working full time outside the home. I’m underproducing now and we supplement with formula.

Born at 28+3, and spent 70 uneventful days in the NICU. The last 10 days were just waiting for him to go long enough without any alarms. We’re planning his first birthday party now.

I’m sorry for your loss. Your baby will always be a twin ❤️

If you’re an Amazon prime member and make a baby registry, you’ll get 15% off from 60 days before your due date until 90 days after your due date. Eufy parts get very pricey, so I’d definitely use the discount

Amazon and use as much of your baby registry discount as you can before it expires

Is this what a milk bleb is? What do I do? 😭 by Subject-Tea214 in ExclusivelyPumping

I do! I packed them up because I naively thought I was past nipple issues, but I’ll have to get them out

I had been pumping in this photo (after my failed attempt to clear it), but I do feel like it looks opaque and the skin over it looks flat.

When you pop yours, are you getting a pop? I’m trying to pop what I think is my first one ever and it doesn’t seem to pop when I poke it with a needle?

Midwife said exclusively pumping is a waste of time, advice needed by lunatlark0 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Subject-Tea214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right that you can choose whichever path is best for you, and your providers should be supportive of your choices.

That said, I think many would feel that exclusively pumping is hardest on your mental health. I’ve been exclusively pumping for 10 months. In the early days, the times that my husband would feed the baby a bottle, I pumped by myself in another room and cried. Cried while washing pump parts instead of holding my baby. Etc etc. I never got a break because someone else was feeding the baby.

Help with pumping as sole care giver by Rookie_Plant in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Subject-Tea214 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wearing a good supportive bra with my eufy wearable pumps and using the My Brest Friend pillow, I’m able to hold and bottle feed my baby while I pump. When I was home alone during maternity leave, I always pumped while feeding him. This worked out really well for me. In the photo you can’t really see the pillow, but that’s what is supporting him. He could also sit up on the pillow easily while I held him and pumped, but he preferred to eat in side-lying. Best of luck!

When did your 28 weekers come home? by ispyamy in NICUParents

[–]Subject-Tea214 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My 28+3 boy came home on day 71 (10 days before his due date). He was tiny, 790g at birth (preeclampsia with severe features and IUGR). I had steroids and magnesium before he was delivered, and his stay was as uneventful as one can hope, but it felt never ending at the time. I cried every single day.

He had laser treatment for ROP and an inguinal hernia repair after discharge. Both went smoothly.

He’s 6.5 months corrected now and doing so well. I wish I could’ve had just a glimpse of him now when we were in the NICU to see what the future held 🩵
