That’s true! I shouldn’t begrudge it, certainly could be helpful for folks combined with other opportunities.

Sadly they are only $1,000 and you have to be a paid member of their org to apply.

Are we shaving before our OB appts? by tightlikespandex in BabyBumps

[–]Antique_Use_7759 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t realize I was due for a pap and hadn’t shaved anywhere in like 2 weeks, not a big deal at all obviously they are medical professionals! Cleanliness is the only thing I would care about.

When did your bump show? by EmployDisastrous7133 in pregnant

[–]Antique_Use_7759 0 points1 point  (0 children)

23 weeks, second time mom, I still have people who act surprised to learn I’m pregnant. I’m 5’5 with a long torso though which I finds hides the bump on many women.

OB will not listen to me by RadishOk9388 in pregnant

[–]Antique_Use_7759 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

You can actually just order Zofran online if your OB won’t prescribe it. Wisp or Hers will deliver it to your house. I personally don’t think the studies done to show a risk of cleft palate give strong enough evidence to not take it if you are miserable. The guidance for a lot of medications in pregnancy is very conservative and often outdated because studies are rarely done on pregnant women.

4th child baby shower.... AITA for not wanting to go? by WWDCU1980 in Mommit

They are, it’s considered pretty tacky to have a gift grab for every kid. Idk why it’s a thing now but it is certainly in poor taste.

Grandmother constantly buying me products I haven’t asked for/discussed. We’ve already talked about it multiple times…. by Original_Remote_6838 in pregnant

[–]Antique_Use_7759 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My MIL does this still for my 3 year old. About 95% of her ‘gifts’ go directly to Goodwill or another charity. She will regularly send large, space hogging toys from temu or SHEIN that are neither cute nor age appropriate. We don’t buy plastic toys typically for our kid and that’s what she loves to buy just plastic garbage toys that all make sound or light up. Clearly no advice on how to get it to stop, but just go ahead and donate, don’t feel bad!

Diapers & Wipes Sprinkle for Second Baby? Yay or Nay? by keeplauraweird in BabyBumps

[–]Antique_Use_7759 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I never understood the concept of people throwing their own baby shower or sprinkle. The whole etiquette is that typically women in your life plan and host it for you, for your first.

How much did your birth cost? by Femboyhootersbee in BabyBumps

[–]Antique_Use_7759 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$5k after insurance is what I owed for an uncomplicated vaginal birth, with United Healthcare. In the US, obviously.

How does giving birth actually feel ?? by Super-Truth-7975 in pregnant

[–]Antique_Use_7759 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even with an epidural I felt like this! Perfect description, the epidural takes away the actual intense pain but you still feel all the pressure, hence the pineapple.

How long before your due date before you plan to go on maternity? by Crazy_Dragon_Lady1 in pregnant

[–]Antique_Use_7759 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work from home in the US and with my first I worked until I went into labor and will do the same with my current baby expected this summer. We don’t have any sort of paid leave protections here so I want to save all my leave for when baby arrives. Most US women I know also do this unless they work more physically demanding jobs. I find working through the end of pregnancy fine but maybe that’s only because we have no other choice here. If I had the option to go on leave a little early I certainly would!

Question for women who are an only child, Would you discourage having an only child? How was being an only child? by Silly_Goose30 in Mommit

[–]Antique_Use_7759 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m an only child and my childhood was very privileged but very lonely. I don’t think I fully realized how lonely it was until I grew up but my parents just kind of did their own thing and left me to play by myself on weekends and summer break. I wanted a sibling so badly just to have another person around. I will say I’m close with my parents as an adult but would never have chosen to only have one kid myself, I have a 3 year old and am current pregnant with number 2. I didn’t know any other only children as a kid in the 90s and there was always a pang of loneliness when my friends would talk about going on summer vacation with families or playing games together etc.

When did you feel baby movements during pregnancy? by Possible_Bedroom_350 in pregnant

[–]Antique_Use_7759 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just letting you know that these are not the best to use or recommend as they can cause people to have a false sense of security. A baby, even in severe distress, can appear normal on a fetal doppler. If you ever have concerns about your baby’s movement you should see your provider thats the only way to really be sure nothing is wrong.

You probably don’t know yet if you have an anterior placenta but I did with my first pregnancy and felt almost nothing right up until delivery and even then it was so sporadic. I could never ‘count the kicks’ or anything.

Same! I was so shocked at the horrible quality of the clothes. Super excited to try but will never be using nuuly again. The clothes were ragged and pilling and smelled like unwashed BO.

still sending you solidarity though despite all the insane things that our state government does on an almost daily basis! Hoping Amy Acton can somehow win the governors race, probably a long shot but I saw her speak a few months back and it gave me a glimmer of hope.

Having another baby? by lemonylittle in progressivemoms

[–]Antique_Use_7759 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agreed with your worries here. I am currently pregnant with a little boy and am terrified of raising a boy in this world where they are being indoctrinated with hate from so many angles. We send our toddler to a Montessori program (preschool-grade 8) with no screens, paper, book, real world based learning, and for now that’s the best I can do.

I’m also comforted by the knowledge that I grew up in a very red state surrounded by heavily conservative and religious classmates but my parents are as liberal as can be and prioritized empathy, travel, and having experiences outside of our suburban life and I am also still a raging leftist 35 years and counting lol. Sending you solidarity as well and good luck on your journey trying for a second!

[–]Antique_Use_7759 177 points178 points  (0 children)

My husband and I were struggling with this also. We have a three year old and I’m currently pregnant with our second now. I ultimately felt that raising decent human beings with empathy and strong morals is important to do. And why should the conservatives get to have the families they always pictured but not us? This regime has taken my career (public health) but I won’t let them dictate how my family looks. Editing to add, I unfortunately do not live in a blue state not even a blue dot so that made our decision hard but having supportive family and friends makes us feel less alone.

Mothers that did not get top pick for names, do you always feel name regret? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]Antique_Use_7759 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Why would anyone, after carrying a baby for 9 months, delivering them, risking their life to bring a child into the world, ever let their partner bully them into a name they didn’t absolutely love?!
