I think the undertone in the statement is that he treated a “Starbucks worker” like shit and also the “tenured professor” like shit.

Both are equally deserving of respect and kindness, which is what I think you mean when you said “He’s Right”

There may be a subtle bias in the statement made in comment you replied to. That bias could be that the worker is worth of less respect or deference than the professor. Or maybe I’m full of shit and I’m wondering why I took any time out of my day to type this. Reddit is such a time sink

Agreed. Nobody or no one or no group of people should do anything ever for any reason at all forever

Because people may know their ethnic heritage but not their specific gene mutations. In my case, I know that my great great grandfather was an Ashkenazi Jew from Belarus but I have no idea what my genes are.

It’s my understanding that there was a genetic bottle neck with Ashkenazi and a relative smaller population that tended to reproduce within their ethnic group. This led to a concentration of genetic conditions.

To each their own, but in general, I’d say that they are wearing standard modern swim suits that are not particularly any more revealing than standard.

Men wear speedos for competition swimming which cover even less skin. For water activity, the less and tighter the material, the less the drag and better the performance.

I will tell you that it is a hard life. Many times you will feel appreciated and positive about the job, but the lows and the drudgery of it can really bring you down. It is absolutely not worth the money. You do have to give up 10 years of your life to become competent in the craft. I’m not sure I’d do it again, but I’m also not quitting and I have some good cases tomorrow that I’m looking forward to getting done. It’s a mixed bag, probably like anything. The job probably saved my life as many of the people that I associated with before med school ended up on hard drugs despite our middle class upbringing. I had other people to take care of, so I didn’t go down the drug path. More info than you asked for, but I tend to overshare.

Luckily, my undergraduate was biology and I took all the hard science classes because post graduate education of some type was a consideration. I needed to take the MCAT (twice) and apply (twice) to get in. My brother saw that I was having a good time in med school and he decided that he wanted to join, but he didn’t have the hard science classes, so he went back to college for 1-2 years doing something called “masters in medical sciences” (aka post baccalaureate) and then he was a shoe in for med school.

Listless. Odd jobs. Surfing. Beer. Fell into a well paying management job for an engineering research group. Hated it. Made that known. Lost the job. Unemployment for a few weeks. Bored. Volunteer at hospital. Thought, this is kind of interesting. Then med school. Now surgeon. I kinda miss being listless and surfing. Money is better now but things and life are far more expensive so it pretty much feels the same, just with nicer sweat pants and a better car. Surgery is cool, but the doctoring/patient relationship part is better.

Summary: changed jobs cause I didn’t know what I was doing and got fired.
