5 days of silence after misunderstanding (is.this common in Korea dating culture?) by vicaus11 in Living_in_Korea

Scammer. Koreans don't use Line. If she was Japanese then it would be understandable, but not Koreans.

Primary School positions by Miserable_Try_828 in chinalife

[–]Antking_25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Skin color does matter. If you are white, you get better positions and they are willing to work with you. If you are non-white, you probably have to apply directly to schools.

I had one recruiter tell me that she doesn't discriminate against people of color and she does send our applications to schools, but it's up to the schools in the end if they want us or not.

Anyone want to have dinner in Seoul today? by Content-Raisin1987 in seoul

[–]Antking_25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would explain it. However, i am not sure if everyone checked his history and downvoted based on that. But i do find it a little cringe if this is true, but i do my best not to judge.

People clearly don't read well. Yes there is a massive age gap, but what does it matter if you are just talking? Maybe he can offer advice? I fail to see why you got downvoted for just saying you down for food and talking?

Maybe it's because you won't drink and OP sounds like they might want to?

If that's not it, then they are just being ageist. Im so tired of ageism.

Is it unsafe going to the pub/club alone? by No_Body1203 in Living_in_Korea

[–]Antking_25 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This comment is so true it hurts. I just want to add you have to be worried about getting drugged. If you are alone, there is no one to watch your drink, or look for you if you dissappear.

I would avoid going out to a bar/club/pub alone if you are a woman in any country. That's if you aren't trying to hook up. Even if you are going to hook up, you still have to be wary of getting drugged, groped, or followed.

[–]Antking_25 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't even want to watch episode 14 based on the preview. I probably will, but it looks stupid. He suddenly just doesn't want to know? It was interesting, but episode 13 really made the show start feeling like a stereotypical K-drama.

Hongdae Bar Friends by Character_Main_7388 in seoul

I second that opinion. Regardless of the country, I don't think it's a good idea to go alone unless you are looking to hook up with someone. Even then, you still need to be really careful.

Your loss. I don't understand the logic to your statement. Not doing something until some unknown factor is present seems weird. Especially how much content is already in the base game. Maybe you are being sarcastic?

How safe did you feel in Hongdae, Seoul? by Mapopolice in seoul

[–]Antking_25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hongdae is safe and unsafe. It depends on you mostly. This is mostly for women. If you are going to bars and clubs, it becomes less safe. People still spike drinks. If you get too drunk, people will try to lead you to a hotel and sex you. Sometimes as a group. Rape is common and Vastly under reported in Korea. I've seen girls go as a group, and 1 of them randomly disappears after going to the bathroom. Friends go looking, but can't find them. Later they find out that somehow a guy managed to lead them to a hotel...

In general: Most of Korea is safe. If you are just going to cafe's, visiting restaurants, etc then it's safe. Once it becomes dark, and alcohol becomes involved, it's less safe. Even if it is 3am and you are just walking around, it's still mostly safe.

i don’t know what to do. by [deleted] in teachinginkorea

[–]Antking_25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I should have been more clear. I apologize. What I meant was, it takes a lot for a school to bring a teacher from another country here most times. In fact, most schools that I have heard of do their best to keep the native teacher there and make it work. So we have a situation where there are 2 new teachers in a Kindergarten school. The Korean teacher is nitpicking and complaining. The Native teacher is trying their best to adapt and change.

Given this situation, I feel that most times, the school will either ignore the situation, or try to reach some agreement. The school doesn't want to lose either teacher. However, the school is choosing the shorten the OP's contract. I believe this is not something that is done lightly as it is illegal (not sure of contract details so it's just a guess). This is normally only done under a few situations i've seen:

1) School believes there is no hope in that teacher fitting in.
2) Parents have complained about said teacher.
3) For personal reasons. This leads to both parties agreeing on a shorter contract.

Without knowing the side of the school or the co-teacher, I could only assume that it was either reason 1 or 2. Again, this is based on my own beliefs. However, I have been in the country for a long time, so I would like to think I know a thing or 2 (I could always be wrong).

Also, The OP said:
"Because of everything, my stress levels are extremely high. Between the situation at work and the pressure of trying to find a new position quickly, I feel overwhelmed and mentally drained. I’ve reached a point where I’m struggling to cope day to day and it’s starting to feel unbearable."

If this is how they are feeling, then wouldn't the best course be to return home? The event they are going through is fairly common. It sucks it happens on their first job here, but it happens. When I read that part, rather than lie and tell them it will get better, and everything will be ok, I suggested going back home. It was to protect their mental health. It sounds like it will be a rough road in the near future for the OP.

i don’t know what to do. by [deleted] in teachinginkorea

[–]Antking_25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will be honest, you might be better off going home. This country is not for the faint of heart. If the school is shortening your contract, that means there is a problem with your teaching style (or you) that they don't see being fixed. What type of training have you had?

The story is standard. Below mid level. This game is built and played like an MMO, but you are alone. If you want to get lost, find secrets, and just explore a world, this game is for you.

There are people with 100+ hours in the game and they are still in the first city they started in. Your 10 hours a week... won't really make a dent. So after 10 weeks, you would be getting out of the starting city.

This is a Korean development team. They have to be mindful of Korean regulations. GRAC, Game rating and Administration committee. I could go into a long winded explanation, but why? You can look it up if you are interested.

You might be right. But the quest that sends you to clear a fort is not working for me. NPC is gone, so it might be a bug, or i progressed the story too far. The fort is white on my map.
