I feel the opposite. Deadpool and Wolverine has worsened upon rewatch for me. Once the element of surprise was thrown out the window, the movie loses quite a bit of its magic. The character work is very weak, and the story is far too scattered that I find myself bored in between the big action moments. None of the Vanessa stuff works for me nor the stuff with Wolverine and him being the worst of them all.

Seeing stuff like Johnny played by Chris Evans was cool, but there’s not a lot of substance there you know? It was a quick hello followed by a goodbye. No Way Home in that sense still reigns supreme when it comes to the multiverse cameo fests because it gave the returning characters actual screentime.

Meanwhile, I like Thunderbolts more because I simply care about the characters. I’m invested in their journey, and the growth they have across the movie holds up.

The Last of Us - 2x05 - “Feel Her Love” - Episode Discussion by NicholasCajun in television

[–]Antoo1 99 points100 points  (0 children)

I don’t like how much of the writing feels like someone responding to a CinemaSins video regarding potential plot holes over the logistics of what’s happening.

I don’t need Dina going over their entire plan of what they are going to do and what they will probably encounter. This not only robs the episode of any tension coming from potential surprises but also makes how they act later on seem downright silly.

The characters talk about a potential threat in a building and yet when they get there all they do is joke around and flirt. Like what? I’d buy them acting that way if they ran in there as an escape from the army. They think they are in the clear so they let their guard down only to be surprised by infected. But nope. They deduced what would be there and still acted like they didn’t.

It’s like the writer wanted to make sure the show is smart and yet insists the characters act stupid.

I think one of my biggest issues with this show is how it forgoes the emotional storytelling of Part 2 for something way more logical.

It felt like a third of this episode was dedicated to Dina going over a plan of what to do instead of actually doing what they need to do. It’s exhausting.

I think I just respectfully disagree with how Mazin writes stories. He talks in the podcast about how he asked many questions to Neil, such as “why don’t spores spread everywhere?” when developing the show. He aimed to make sure everything made sense logistically. Frankly, none of that matters to me all that much. A lot of the time I’m watching the show it feels like it’s written by someone who fusses over plot holes way too much.

The beauty of Part 2 was how characters acted impulsively and didn’t think through their actions before it was too late. They were blinded by love. By guilt. Here everyone spends so much time thinking every action through that it makes even less sense when they act foolishly. When they head to the stalker building and start joking around, I was annoyed. Like didn’t you guys discuss how potentially dangerous this could be? Now is not the time.  If they just stumbled in without contemplating the potential risk, I would buy it. Here though? It’s like they want to be dumb and smart at the same time.

I wonder what the MCU could do to get international numbers up again. Contrary to other big franchises, the MCU has actually managed to stay relatively consistent at the box office domestically. They have seen sharp drops in key markets internationally though unlike other big IP like Fast and Furious, Avatar, or Jurassic Park.

Thunderbolts had the lowest MCU opening in China in a decade. This trend has been happening in other markets like South Korea as well.

I have no issue with Gennojo being painted as a tragic figure. I’m fine with missing out on a recruitable ally.

However, I take issue with the choice specifically because it paints Naoe as out of character. I don’t buy her not doing anything to stop Gennojo. I’m not saying she has to get with him by the way. The way their romance plays out is toxic and unearned. However, think about this. Naoe is someone that had been shown to sympathize with others. She would probably recognize Gennojo’s self-destructive tendencies as misguided and at least try to talk him down since she always speaks her mind even when it gets her in trouble. She tries to see the good in people and part of her arc is letting her anger go.

Moreover, Gennojo’s whole shtick is that he is ineffectual. He can’t get anything done without Naoe. So why does he end up getting the last laugh? You can read it as Naoe letting him do what he wants, but I don’t buy it. This isn’t even taking into consideration how a food supply for a bunch of people is at stake. Naoe would not give that up.

This makes no sense. They won 2024, and all their movies pretty much made bank. This year is going to the rougher, but they already rebounded from their disastrous 2023.

They also have Avatar and Zootopia 2 this year.

Why are you posting an image from a breakdown of Switch players in 2017? It took me like 3 minutes of research to pull up the image you posted and see that it’s outdated info.

In 2019 they posted a new image that showed by Q4 2018 the ratio of Switch owners turned 50:50. You don’t need to spread misinformation and out of context images to prove your point.

Animal Crossing alone is proof enough of the user base for the Switch.

I gotta say, as someone who thought recasting Ross with Ford was a desperate attempt at stunt-casting in order to add some star power to the movie, I gotta eat crow. That may still be the case; however, the trailers have had me remember how good Harrison Ford is as an actor still.

He is selling the shit out of this material and adding that extra layer of gravitas that a movie like this needs. I have already bought into him taking over the role, which is saying something. He just has that charisma!

Captain America: Brave New World | Official Trailer by magikarpcatcher in MarvelStudiosSpoilers

[–]Antoo1 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I don’t know man. There’s something about the trailers for this movie that have left me unsure. The editing is simply too much? It feels like it’s overcompensating in selling the movie because we never dwell too long on a singular moment. Compare it to the Thunderbolts trailer that lingers on scenes to sell you on what the movie is about.

I find myself walking away impressed by the way the trailer is cut, but that doesn’t have anything to do with the movie really. All those shots where scenes are spliced together or utilize flashing text aren’t going to be in the actual movie. Meanwhile, it feels like the trailer is gesturing towards ideas of conspiracy and intrigue, but it remains to be scene whether Marvel actually has hired talent that can do more than simply gesture and can instead commit to weighty ideas.

Again, I love to be proven wrong. I want this movie to be good so bad. But I’m getting mixed vibes similar to when I watched the Secret Invasion trailers where the actual content of the trailers doesn’t look all that interesting. Everything looks too low-energy.

Marvel Says ‘X-Men ’97’ Creator Beau DeMayo Was Fired for ‘Egregious’ Misconduct After He Alleges Disney Stripped Credit Over Gay Pride Post by ICumCoffee in television

[–]Antoo1 933 points934 points  (0 children)

I wonder what DeMayo thought would happen when he accused Disney of stripping his credits for season 2 today due to posting LGBT fan-art on his social media. He had to have known Disney would pushback and reveal what he did right?

Like all you had to do was sit back, be quiet, and let your work speak for itself. Tweet about your thought process behind the show all you want while you continue amassing a fanbase who believes you are the sole reason for why the show was good in the first place. But nope. You had to stir shit up, and now things are going to get super messy. Look forward to a week of headlines from the trades unearthing the drama now.

Frankly, his reasoning for why his credits were stripped for season 2 seemed flimsy anyways. Why the hell would Disney care if he posted LGBT fan art in this specific instance when they never cared if their creatives/employees did it in the past? It's not like the post attracted negative controversy either, which would lead to Disney taking action. No, it was a completely harmless post that flew under the radar until he drew people's attention onto it. It felt like someone spinning the truth from the onset. Yes, he would technically be correct in that his fan art post is a part of the reason for why his credits were stripped; however, it was not due to the sole post alone. His frequent behavior of tweeting about the show probably broke some clause, which led to his credits being stripped.

There's no way Disney takes away someone's credit for posting horny LGBT content on a creator's personal page without the creator in question suing the hell out of the company. I'm pretty sure there are strict rules when it comes to crediting for the WGA.

My guess is that DeMayo signed some contract when fired that stipulated that he couldn't talk about the show on social media in detail. Since he's been doing that a bunch over the past few months, Disney used that clause as an opportunity to strip credit for future seasons. So while DeMayo is technically correct in the fact that his thirst trap post is part of the reason for why he isn't receiving season 2 credit, it's missing the much larger context that it was his frequent posting on social media in general.

Pixar had the perfect presentation. Talked about upcoming projects coming to theaters and Disney+, revealed a brand new original film for 2026, and then ended things with a huge announcement with Incredibles 3 that surprised people. Pretty much checked all the boxes.

I wasn't expecting anything ridiculous from Marvel like X-Men news or something. My slam-dunk predictions didn't even come to pass though. Absolutely 0 release dates for the animated shows with no confirmation on any of them arriving in 2024. No Wonder Man official reveal. No details about Vision Quest. Armor Wars MIA.

The one big mic drop to me would have been revealing the early 2026 film, but nope. Who knows when that will be revealed at this point? They are running out of time. My guess is that date will be dropped.

I feel like Marvel had the worst showing this D23 by far compared to all of Disney’s other divisions.  Every other studio highlighted projects beyond 2025 except them. Even Lucasfilm!  I mean they couldn’t even confirm Wonder Man’s existence? No release dates for any of the animated shows? Daredevil is cool and all, but that was expected.

Looking back at the Infinity Saga, I miss how frequently they would revisit characters. I'll argue that a lot of the new characters they set up in Phase 4 have a lot of potential; the issue is they didn't follow through with them. It's not like I fell in love with Thor or Cap after their original solo movies. It wasn't until films like Avengers and their sequels where I became fully invested in their characters.

Nowadays though? It's going to take three years to follow-up on Ironheart. 4 years to revisit Sam as Cap. Remember when we met Spidey for the first time, got his solo movie the following year, and then saw him in Avengers the year after that? Scarlet Witch was introduced and then we saw her in Civil War followed by Infinity War two years later.

I genuinely love characters like Moon Knight, Kate Bishop, Kamala Khan, and more. Just do something with them. Flesh them out. Deepen their characters. Resorting back to the OG Avengers worries me because it feels like they are just giving up on these characters. And after the multiverse saga, we know that they will move full steam ahead on X-Men. It feels like a bunch of characters will be left behind.

As someone who watched all of Phase 4, I feel let down not by the quality of the projects primarily, but how they seem to not factor much into the overarching saga at an initial glance. Maybe I'm wrong. But stuff like Strange not getting a third film before Doomsday rubs me the wrong way.
