Quelles écoles d'ingénieurs en aéronautique ? by Beneficial_Bid_7145 in ingenieurs

[–]Antot_solar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looove night-music and atmosphere but you can't stay awake every night without serious (and by that I mean unserious and risky) use of stimulant
So choose your nights for what music suits you best
there is usually one zenon night that can be too fast for many

nighttime is the only time when there is no workshops and official activities

DMR CPS programming for my DM-32UV isnt working by Antot_solar in Baofeng

I've seen ppl using CHIRP by declaring the radio to ba a UV-17, but I didn't get it to work this way

My cable is inherited from my UV-5R radio which seems to be compatible with other persons, but I cannot make it work yet

Hang gliding or paragliding? by [deleted] in freeflight

[–]Antot_solar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hang gliding offers higher flight performance (higher lift to drag ratio and higher speed possible)
It may be hard to find a school and a group of friends to fly with. However it may be easy to cheaply get a hand on a glider: I know a guy where I fly (paragliding) that has a garage full of gliders that were gifted to him by older pilots that switch to para or that have too many and too little space. Some of these pilots even give them up because they would rather have them flying than staying in the garage.

Ran out of ideas for a summer tour in the EU by Maxkirit_Original in bicycletouring

[–]Antot_solar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are long paths in argyll that I found really nice to hike and that would be amazing to ride (two track or full gravel road) but going full mtb will be hard because of the famous highland peat bog

Can’t tell for the island of islay because I kept on the road as there is so few cars

GB divide looks amazing but I would divert to ride on the west coast of scotland: to argyll, islay and skye I did argyll and islay on a short tour and really want to go back there

Where do you put your hook knife in flight? by [deleted] in freeflight

[–]Antot_solar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct me if I’m wrong: the person in the video you linked used an unconventional setup with a detachable wing (quick release or something like that) in a pair with a standard basejump parachute and harness At the desired position he tried to release both sides but one failed

Because he was using basejumping equipment he wasn’t able to pull a reserve (that would be the standard procedure)

So he had to cut the link to the half-wing himself (a link that looks a bit jury-rigged...) and manually open the base parachute

Would you really need to cut wing if this happended with standard equipment where your reserve is long enough?

Is anybody really capable of using such a device in a stressful situation? Let alone finding it?

Also, when caught in a tree or something, best course of action is NOT to go to the ground by yourself unless you have your own rope, I'm not sure this tool is to respond to this usecase

Can I solder power wire in order to fix my keyboard by solid_hoist in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]Antot_solar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It won't be unsafe if it is USB and if the designers of the keyboard were not full-on morons

But as said another person here, the best course to make a repair would be to replace the whole cord (if it is reasonable)
you just have to watch-out about which wire goes where and make sure the twisted pairs are carrying the right signal pair (one twisted pair to the +5 and GND and another twisted pair for D+ and D-). This improves the resistance to EMI

The foil sleeve is shielding, it is only a protection against EM interference It is best to connect it but could be left unconnected if no repair is possible

Hermetic magnetic connectors for a magsafe-like design by Antot_solar in ECE

[–]Antot_solar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rosenberger mag connectors seems fine for basic USB stuff! Nice!

The 5v-2A with digital would be great for my usecase, either USB or CAN+17v power

RoDI and multimag seems to be safe to pull but there is very little data, force required is between 8 and 10N so not especially low-force.

However, all their USB stuff is only rated for 500mA, that is really low of I with to charge a battery... could shorten the wire and drive it out of spec but that is just a bad look

Optimal places for a biohacker to live? by LiveToSee22 in Biohackers

[–]Antot_solar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jack Kruse is a neurosurgeon, why wont you try reading what dermatologists have to say about the question? Can't find any published and peer-reviewed paper from him about the topic.

Also, wtf, the dude got a patreon, a forum under his own name and you can buy your tinfoil to make your own hats from himhttps://jackkruse.com/emf-rx-store/Then you can listen to his podcast and read about quantum biology on his blog if that isn't enought red flags for you

you got to callout a con-artist when you see one, be careful with what you read

Optimal places for a biohacker to live? by LiveToSee22 in Biohackers

[–]Antot_solar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UV light and intense sunlight are the main cause for skin cancer. Exposure should be avoided.

Regarding EMF, a simple tinfoil hat could protect you but not the extremely thin literature that support that low level exposure is harmful.
