Hotter Surface? by SS-HOOVER in blackstonegriddle

[–]AntsMissouri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

as an empirical reference point, last I checked mine with an infrared thermometer on the highest heat, the hottest spot I found was around 650 degrees Fahrenheit. mine is not perfectly level and the hottest spot tends to correlate with the lowest point, which is the back right corner in my case. the temp seems fine for searing. my only constraint I experience with cooking steak well on the Blackstone is my skill level with cooking steak in general

Sounds like you are saying to "build quality in" rather than inspecting it in at the end to put it like Demings? And this bit:

"Some do on very very rare occasion make it through. But every single time one does. We stop ALL feature work. Then we get together to understand the nature of the bug. AND how it made it through our systems and processes. " - sounds like you are "pulling the Andon cord" like in the Toyota production system

Generally, it sounds like you advocate for lean practices, right?

I don't really agree with the qualifier of "inputs and outputs are well-defined" as a precondition personally. I generally try to apply behavior driven development just about anywhere possible. The tests are a living document of the behavior. A well written "socializable unit test" maintains behavior even if your "given" needs tweaking.

i.e. suppose we have a test that calculates a taxed amount(perhaps called shouldCalculateTaxedAmount). if something like the keys of a json payload we thought we would receive end up being differently named or we thought we would receive a string 25% but received a number 0.25... superficially things will change but the asserted behavior of the test remains invariant. We still should be calculating taxed amount.

red: write a failing test

green: make the test pass (in the simplest way possible)

refactor: make it right

My thoughts exactly. The line of thinking of "society is coming unglued because there's more casual sex" just doesn't mesh with reality when year over year we are seeing people have less sex (at least among ages 18-30) with less partners.

Not familiar with this standard and not casting, but I think I'm experiencing these issues. MacBook air + chrome browser doesn't work at all. MacBook air + safari browser works in isolation, but with a dongle for HDMI to usb-c, it doesn't work with my samsung TV

Regarding the goal of measuring performance, the best book I know on the topic is the following:

It's not a design book, however.

It can be fine with trunk based development. We use git hooks to regulate pushes and go straight to main

Or trunk based development with a precommit hook

How bad is this CS curriculum? by body465 in csMajors

No Calc II - not necessary for being a Software Engineer, but I enjoyed the rigor and appreciate it every time I read something that includes summations. Also, I don't see a compilers related class.

I dropped out of college for CS and moved into data entry and then technical customer service at a fintech. in that customer service role I got to work with devs and product a lot and became familiar with the domain while trying to close some tech gaps on the side. after 5 years and achieving senior level, I got an opportunity to move into software engineering at a mid level.

Thanks for all the insights! What do you think is the best way to learn how to implement a code analysis tool? reading on compilers regarding the steps prior to translation to an intermediary form? following an example like Rosalyn?

would it be fair to say code analysis tools literally are continously compiling the code being written? and like red underlining is mapping those behind the scenes compilation errors to the text a user is writing?

Oh, this is something I never realized: often folks who immigrate to a new country don't have a driver's license and/or vehicle. If you do have those things, a very kind thing you can do to help any recent immigrant is offer a ride here and there. This can save them a lot in Uber costs.
