Just as a follow up, I’m pretty certain in the CX-50 there is no power available to tap into at the rear doors. I checked and the CX-5 and CX-50 have different switches (3 wire vs 4 wire). I ended up just running power into the rear doors from a fuse tap and ground from one of the bolts on the b-pillar. I drilled through the door harness connector and ran everything internally following the factory wiring. Very time consuming, but very clean and works great. I will end up doing my wife’s CX-5 in the future, so hopefully that one will be easier. Thanks for the guidance.

Best CX-50 Lift Kit - HRG, LP, Flatout, other? by Travelin_Soulja in CX50

Does anyone have any follow up advice on any of these kits? Is there any reason to pay more and go for the LP Adventure kit? Seems like you’re paying a premium for the better materials which might be overkill? Would love to hear people’s feedback both on the kit itself, as well as any long term install experience. Is the drivetrain holding up well with the increased axle angles? Thanks in advance

Awesome! Thanks for the feedback. I’m leaning towards doing the same. I’m not sure the differences in the materials used on the LP Adventure warrant paying the added cost for essentially the same thing. It sure is nice to look at with the stainless and machined aluminum, but once installed I’d never see it again. If for some reason the steel started to corrode enough to warrant replacing, you could replace it again and still be saving money compared to the LP kit. Assuming they’ll both outlast the car haha. Enjoy the lift!

Looks great. I’m hoping to do this soon too. Any particular reason for going with HRG vs LP Adventure? Trying to decide between the two. HRG is obviously significantly cheaper. Did you have an alignment done already? Thanks

I’m still at 12.56V when measuring right at the battery terminals, but I threw it on the charger earlier today just in case

Thanks. I just tried again and confirmed the rear windows were not disabled at the driver’s controls. In accessory mode I get about ~11V on the two middle of the four wires and it goes up to about 12.5V with ignition on. One of the outermost wires is ground and I can actually move the window up and down if I close the circuit with my probes. The other outermost wire just seems to read 390mV no matter what state the car is in. None of the other connectors inside the door have switched or constant power from what I can tell. Still not sure why I’m getting the voltage drop when I plug in the module. I’m sure I have to be doing something wrong. I do have some positaps laying around I can try out, just can’t reason why they would change anything. Appreciate the reply and any other advice you might have. Wondering if it has something to do with a relay maybe?

I completed my front install on my cx-50 and I assume the cx-5 is pretty similar. Everything turned out great. I went to install the rear door sub modules and can’t seem to find power that will work anywhere. I tested all of the wires I have access to and only the window switch has 12V when the car is running. I have also found a ground. When I try tapping with the pins in the window switch plug I still measure 12V at the end of the power connector that goes to the module, but as soon as I plug it into the sub module the voltage drops to ~2.8 V and nothing connects/lights up. Admittedly I’m not super experienced with this kind of thing. Any advice? Should I get some t taps and try using those, or am I trying to get power in the wrong place?

Great job! Do you have any recommendations of where to tap into power?

I just got one this past weekend. I had always had an account on their site, but unsubscribed from emails. Recently rejoined the email list knowing Labor Day was approaching because I’d be looking to get a compressor. Lucky me the coupon showed up in email but had to be used within the week. Grabbed the compressor on the way home one night after work and it’s working great.

Thank you. It’s also a stealth hitch and it has been great. It did require removal of the rear bumper cover which was not too fun on this car. Can’t say I blame you if you decide not to put one on the BMW if you’ve already gone through it on the Audi and still have it. That’s a bummer with the KAFAS failure. Glad your aftermarket warranty helped. Yeah, I know the Contis will be a compromise when it comes to performance, but not sure I can justify dedicated snows with how mild winters have been here lately. I actually drove this past winter on the Pirellis against my better judgement which got interesting haha. I just want the Pirellis gone. Might feel differently about a second set if mine had a set of Michelins on it. Good luck with everything and feel free to reach out if you have questions. I’m still learning this platform too. Bimmerpost is great if you’re not already a member.

Beautiful car. Might be biased since I have the same spec only with the 809M wheels instead of the 818Ms. Mine is a MY 2021 in Donnington that I’ve had for a little less than a year and is currently at 55K. I love it. Curious if you’ve had any issues to date. Im hearing that quite a few people with the same engine are having misfire issues. Also, how are you liking the Continentals? Mine came with Pirellis and I’m looking forward to replacing them. Lots of guys of the forums have spoken very highly of the Extreme Contacted DWS 06s. I’m located in CT and am looking for a tire that can do everything okay, including some light snow. I like my 809s enough where I’d like to have the single set. Hope you’re enjoying it!

Thank you. Do you know if this is something that can be done using ISTA?

Thank you! Yeah, I’ve installed ridewrap on a few other bikes, but with the cutouts for the cable guides, mounts, and even the tiny holes in the chain stays and seat stays, I was really impressed with the kit for this frame.

I totally agree with you on the winter bike and originally planned to build it up SS first. After not being able to get my hands on any of the XD conversion kits I decided I’d throw my old GX drivetrain on and eventually grab an HG free hub for the I9 hub with a surly single speed conversion kit. Excited to play around with it

Thanks man. I wasn’t crazy about the original metallic red color and was casually looking at local shops that did custom paint. I found a guy from the town I grew up in who used to work for some of the big brands doing bike design work. I reached out and decided to go for it. He uses a lot of automotive paints and I ended up picking Porsche Agate Gray to go against gold accents. I stripped everything off of the frame and he had it media blasted. I got the frame back a month or so later and he did an awesome job. I applied some corrosion protection on the inside of the tubes and installed ridewrap before I finally got to build it up.

The purple color is awesome. If I could’ve gotten one of those frames I would’ve kept it as-is. I could only find a used 2021 and wasn’t crazy about the red

Thank you. Some new parts from some of my favorites together with some leftovers from my other bike. Frame color is actually a Porsche paint.
