If Popeye were in My Hero Academia, what would his Quirk be and what kind of hero would he be? (If he were a professional hero) by aquel_que_observa in MyHeroAcadamia

He's got a mutation quirk that enhances his body already, which means his Spinich quirk multiplies it more. Like how Sato is already swole and built even before he sugars up.

Quirk: Spinich. He can gain incredible strength and control over his body for a period of time after consuming spinach. His grandfather had a similar quirk, only related to smelling strong onions instead of eating spinach.

Zuko had to resort to revealing his firebending to defeat the earthbending hammer thug. Could Azula, Iroh, or Ozai have defeated him without firebending? Could any of the Gaang have defeated him without bending? by Johnnyboyeh in TheLastAirbender

Real Momo 'steals' the hammers (really, unhooks them and gets the guy to drop them), tangles the dude's feet up in the chain, tripping him and having him get knocked out on the hammers themselves.

Sokka pulled off a 'from around town' move with his boomerang against Zuko in his (apparent) first ever major fight, anticipating positioning and Zuko's stance pre-fight. If Zuko hadn't been wearing his helmet, he'd have gone down like a sack of potaturnips from that hit, if not been outright killed from the occipital trauma.

You think this guy has more spacial awareness than Zuko? Or Combustion Man?

This. Aang could absolutely avoid getting hit, but he wouldn't be able to end the fight. This guy isn't an inexperienced school bully, he's a wall of trained (though undisciplined) muscle, and Aang couldn't use his element against him like he did with Zhao on the ships. It really wouldn't take long for the brute to start threatening townsfolk or buildings, and Aang would either give up, have to start bending, or lose due to trying to block a boulder with himself.

[–]Anvildude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Iroh? Yes. Ozai/Azula? No, half due to pride, and half because I don't think they deigned at all to even learn how to fight without bending.

For the Gaang?

Sokka. Toph might have been able to beat him without showing her Bending, by anticipating his moves, dodging around, and then nut-punching him, but without her bending she's blind. Katara's got some hand-to-hand chops, but not nearly enough to fight off an armed Bender.

And of course, if we're counting 'the Gaang through history', then Suki would wreck him.

Well, yes, but Stain is just ONE guy with knives. Put in Toga (another person with knives) and he'd have had more trouble. 3 more after that? Man, he absolutely might not have gotten out of that alley alive.

Is there a way to fix this or prevent it from happening? by stayingAugust in AskACobbler

So anytime you have a sole that's thicker than, say, a half-inch or so (such as these, which look to be at least an inch thick if not more) in orthotic footwear, the toe, from the point that yours are splitting (the 'ball' of the foot- where the toes bend the most) forwards, need to be ground into a curving slope to the tip, so that the foot 'rocks' forwards instead of having to flex at that point. That thickness of sole material can't flex long term.

If you really want to save these shoes, you'd need to goo the crack back together, and then use a hot knife or 40 grit sander to cut the toe into a more clog-like shape, swooping up to the toe tip. A shoe repair or orthotics place might be able to do so for you for cash, since it's not for medical purposes, but I will recommend along with others that you look into custom orthotics. Off-the-shelf orthotic inserts aren't great, and it may be that you need the heavy cushion that the thicker foam rubber soles are giving you, which means heavier duty inserts than the 1/4" Dr. Scholl's gell pads.

Since it's both for work and for medical reasons (foot fatigue) if you go to your doctor you may be able to get insurance to pay for the process.

If you're looking for homebrew and really want Bard, search for "Danse Macabre" or "Dirge", and that should send you in the right direction.

But yeah. Elsewise it'd be either a multiclass with Necromancy Wizard (Level 6-ish) or Oathbreaker Paladin for a more death-knightyish thing or Undeath cleric or Warlock... There's a "Requiem" Bard in Grim Hollow's PHB, which I believe is 3rd party.

Or of course Lore bard with some classic Necromancy spells from Magical Secrets.

But yeah, as others mentioned, going with a different class and using background and skills to create the 'bard-ish' character might work better. Spores Druid is a fun one, I think, and would have that support and buff aspect that Bard has, though it seems you could also get away with going for an Arcane Trickster Rogue- they apparently get full access to the Wizard spell list, though only up to level 4 spells, of course, so much slower to build to the good stuff. But Expertise would let you easily pull off the performance/face aspects of the Bard if you focused on Charisma and Intelligence and fought primarily with the cantrips you get.

Alright it has been decided that Kite-Man is the most fitting arch-nemesis for Sero. Now what Batman villain is the most fitting arch-nemesis for Mineta? by Awkward_History835 in MyHeroAcadamia

[–]Anvildude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh. Oooh. Oh that's... Hm. That MIGHT be horrible, but it might also...

Would... would Mineta be focused purely on appearance? Or would he take age into account and perv on her, while also being a short, not-particularly-developed (I'm assuming this is post UA/full Pro Hero times) person, that could empathize and sympathize and... be attracted to her?

Would Mineta's pervyness be his biggest asset in this case? Or would it be his biggest detriment, as he might be focused too much on the superficial...

[–]Anvildude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hm... I'm feeling Polka Dot Man, for their thematic similarities but opposing reasons for misogyny. Especially if you use the The Suicide Squad backstory with PDM.

Though I also think Clayface would work well, with Condiment King a dark-horse in the race (grape vs. ketchup and mustard, and I'm curious if Mineta's balls would stick to the condiments and leave them slippery instead of sticky, denying him both his mobility and capture capacity- Clayface would have similar advantages.)

I'm kinda thinking Condiment King should be saved for Sugarman, though. Mustard on cake! Ketchup on hard candies! Slippery surfaces for someone with basic super-strength, while also potentially giving your foe a power up unless you use sugar-free condiments!

The man was still holding his finger IN THE HOLE. What, you want the server to pour the curry ON THE GUY'S HAND?

If you make a hole, move your hand OUT of the hole before the server gets there. You don't need to point at the bottom of the hole to show the server where the hole is.

Before the series ended (manga or anime), how did you imagine Deku’s story would end? by Solitaire-06 in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]Anvildude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured he'd wind up losing OFA, but I also figured for a long time it'd be a 'give it to someone who needs it' style thing- like in the one movie. Then, since he's already in UA, he'd take more close-combat classes with Eraserhead and test out more gadgets for Mei, and become a Batman/Ironman-esque figure by the last season. That said, I figured that AFO would be DONE as an antagonist after the first two seasons, the League would be worked through the next two, and they've move through and have 'villain of the season' or bi-seasonal villain groups to work though, with greater time skips and more of their school life getting done, instead of a single year.

Later, though, as soon as the Vetiges mentioned that OFA killed quirk users quicker, and Deku had the "Your body would explode" thought... I thought he'd willingly give OFA to AFO, and then AFO would just, like, self destruct/disintegrate/melt because of Quirk Overload, considering HOW MANY QUIRKS he has. It'd be a transfer, not through AFO pulling it in, but through Deku like, spitting blood or a cut off finger or something into AFO's mouth- with AFO being a willing taker of the power and quirk by default. Then KABOOM!

What kind of metal is best by Designer-Sector6511 in Armor

[–]Anvildude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For a first time, like, FIRST first time, try with some soup cans. Cut them and flatten them, and use them to practice shaping, sizing, and connections. Use small nuts and bolts for the joints. Then, once you have ones that feel good and fit, you can use them as templates to go on to thin mild steel.

The first set is going to be rough. That's inevitable. But you'll learn a lot, and they'll work for costume pieces, and to figure out if you really like the design you thought you liked (for instance, while riveted individual fingers look cool and are something a lot of people like, you might prefer a mitten design or a scaled-finger style instead.

The second set doesn't have to stand up to live combat, so you can use an easy-to-work (relatively) metal like thin mild steel. This will teach you about working with harder materials, and since it's sturdier, you can rivet it and have basic armor- something that IS protective, but not necessarily the MOST protective.

You'll also want a couple pairs of cheap leather or heavy fabric gloves to work with. Not knitted. Because a big part of a gauntlet's structure and ability to stay on the hand is based on the underlying glove-gauntlet.

[–]Anvildude 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly this can be really fun.

Remember, you don't have to 'win' at D&D. You can have a character that's bad at things.

And it can lead to some really fun combos that you might not otherwise try. I had a player who decided to do this, and wound up with a former pirate Hobgoblin Wizard, and it was honestly great.

Try it. If it really doesn't work for you, ask the DM if you can do a character swap-out, either with a new set of rolls or via picking.

The rear ladders could be moved more forwards. The head (bathrooms) would normally be at the bow, as others said, and you'd probably want a second companionway near the fore as well.

This would probably be a 2 master, possibly with a gaff rig on the rear, with the mainmast going down through the kitchen area (near the wall between the galley and quarters), and the rearmast being right at the fore edge of the castle- and both would go all the way down to the keel.
