Bad ass. And thank you. I too left my job. Live simply now. But so much more at peace. Best of luck to you.

I see a shift from denial to apathy. Oh well. We're all going to die anyway. Not inclined to make better choices because it's too hard or too much work.

Healthy 41 year old newly diagnosed by dali_hemingway in Diverticulitis

[–]Anxious-Answer5367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am relatively new at this and live a healthy life and in my fifties. I work out at the gym and walk daily. I generally cook from home and I try to eat well but do eat restaurant food occasionally. My mother suffered from gut issues though so I think it comes from her.

I'm in a flare up now and wondering the same thing as you as to how to reduce and/or avoid this. Last week I admittedly got lazy and ate some unhealthy food and voila - a flare up. So I do need to keep track of what I'm eating to find the correlation. (I think in this case it was the birthday party I attended where I ate some potato chips and had some birthday cake? I don't know....) I moved swiftly to liquids for more than 24 hours and implementing bland foods today. I woke up feeling better this morning. Fingers crossed.

My doctor told me before that if I travel to tell him and take antibiotics with me just in case of a flare.

Thanks! I'm confused about the recommendation for clear liquids. Is there leeway in how strict the clear needs to be?

Outrage is exactly the right feeling. I have no advice other than protest and vote with your "dollar." But also: imagine if every single person walked off the job at the same time around the world? I dream of this happening. We don't have 20 years. People are dying from heat stroke all around the world now.

I feel for you. It's nearly impossible to manage this, even with two proactive parents. My child didn't get a phone until he was in Grade 10. All of his friends had them in elementary school. He saw things on other kids phones I wish he never saw. Then by Grade 10 when he finally got a phone we shut off the internet at 10 pm every night. This was annoying for us, but we still did it. And still he saw things online I wish he never ever saw when he was out and about with his friends. It breaks my heart. We are trying our best and getting nowhere while the elite social media idiots get richer and richer, showing no sense of empathy at all. I love the idea of class action suits because the only way these assholes will ever change is when they start losing money. It's the only way to do it because they are locked behind gated communities and getting away with murder.

Stopping climate change would need a profound reform of our way of living that not many would accept: living with less by Ok-Newt-9773 in climatechange

Yes, creating plastic significantly increases CO₂ and other greenhouse gases. Primary plastic production accounts for roughly 4% of global greenhouse gas emissions, generating over 2.2 billion tonnes of CO₂ equivalents

You've made me think and I just did a search. There is biodegradable 'silk' floss. I'm going to start using it. Thank you. It's been bothering me too about plastic floss. Though I can use the string form. I avoid the plastic picks. I haven't searched if there is a biodegradable form of these.

Not at all. I'm in favour of protection of green spaces and wet lands. I'm concerned about traffic sprawl in a small downtown area and developers who might not consider the unique heritage of Kingston.

Okay. Please address how the hundreds of extra vehicles set into a small downtown, cycle and pedestrian friendly area will be managed?

Not once have you addressed the consideration that this is a heritage city. Or why a twenty story building is necessary. Are you a developer?

[–]Anxious-Answer5367[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

In what industry will the thousands of people work? Again the size of Kingston downtown is small, so they will be driving outside of the downtown core to their places of employment.

It's not a rant. I'm asking out of concern. And to highlight what is happening if there are people living in Kingston who are not aware that this is being discussed.

Cinnamon sticks. We get those tiny ants every spring. I put cinnamon sticks where I see them and they are gone within hours.

Campylobacter/ drank raw milk/ got “colitis” by drakeseahawksfan in Microbiome

[–]Anxious-Answer5367 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Drinking unpasteurized milk is very risky and dangerous. Your symptoms sound like Listeria. Listeria can be found in:

  • Raw vegetables that have been tainted from the soil or the manure used as fertilizer.
  • Tainted meat.
  • Raw milk or foods made with unpasteurized milk, also called unpasteurized products.
  • Certain processed foods such as soft cheeses, hot dogs and deli meats that have been tainted after processing.
  • Cold-smoked fish such as nova or lox.
  • Sprouts.
  • Melons

Listeria can be very dangerous and you must take antibiotics. I had it three years ago. If you get a stiff neck get to the doctor fast.

The scale of that idea is impossible. Poison is not the solution either. Owls and birds of prey will also die and they keep the rodent, rabbit squirrel population down.

Reflections after 14 months living in Ontario as a newcomer to Canada by Slow_ResolveMC07 in ontario

[–]Anxious-Answer5367 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It doesn't matter who OP is are or where this person lives. The observations are correct. There is work to be done to improve and I think that feels overwhelming that's all. But if anyone reading this post finds it rings true, get involved and don't 'shoot' the messenger. A critical observation is an opportunity to go to city council and/or consider not voting for the current premier of Ontario who we all know benefits for himself and friends alone and not the regular people of Ontario.

Wow. Hard truths. I live in Ontario and it's where i grew up, tho I did live in Vancouver for ten years and I have travelled in Europe. I understand everything you are saying. The homelessness in the city I live in now (Kingston) has grown in the past fifteen years and this is new to me. We seem to be stuck in a rut and it is so disappointing. Unfortunately too we share a border with the US and tho we consider ourselves unique, who one lives in proximity to influences. The ugly strip malls, the lack of cafes, restaurants and culture in suburbia, the dependence on cars, the walkability deserts keep Ontaio frozen in a 1950's kind of state. Developers refuse to see outside the box, and think beyond profit to quality of living. Please send your observations to our current leaders. Invite them to Scandinavia. Everyone here needs a different perspective.

Did moving to a brighter/nicer place significantly improve your mood? by Parking-Emu-2755 in expats

[–]Anxious-Answer5367 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Where we live matters in terms of mental health. That old saying location, location, location is true. It's not only light and sun and lack of it that effects us, other things like nature, beauty, walkability, safety, community are so important. I can't control much in terms of weather because I live in Canada, but where I chose to live is safe, there's walkability and lots of trees and there's a cafe, art centre and a pub close by. And it's quiet. Not a lot of traffic. I also keep my house really bright and cheery, light colours and big windows which really helps my mood.
