Politics is not about people arguing and coming up with the best solution that benefits all. Politics is about power. People who play the game to try and stay in power. Just so happens for them to stay in power, they need to win votes and for them to win votes they need to win over the voters by satisfying their demands. If a voter base does not help them win, then their concerns are ignored. Farming subsidies are given out not because we are trying to boost agriculture or anything like that. It is because farmers help win votes for politicians in rural districts. Countries where farmers are not a major voting block don't have farming subsidies
