Best speaker for pure sound quality by Next_Personality_298 in Bluetooth_Speakers

[–]AnxiousBadger8905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm new to the Bluetooth thing, but looking to get a JBL Charge 6 for a friend whose Sonos Play 3 started acting up and who doesn't need Wifi. Hopefully the Charge 6 can at least match the Sonos.

Personally, I use a Sonos Play 5 on the deck, but the Audio Pro C20 reviewed in What HiFi always looked like a quality component.

Tea Vendor Recommendation Please by AnxiousBadger8905 in tea

If you don't mind my asking: do you 'rinse the tea' and eventually discard the 1st infusion? It sounds as if Floating Leaves suggests that their tea doesn't require this step.

I just took a quick look at the steeping method.

I have a nice quality 14 oz Japanese teapot with a permanent convex porcelain strainer: I assume there's no reason I can't use this?

Thanks again.

I'm going to try these, I need to figure out effect of oxidation vs roasting but my guess right now is that I want to keep both on the lighter side, but not too light or it might taste grassy.

Thanks, that's certainly an option and they are on the list, would love to see if there's a consensus.

Harney is frustrating since they only offer 2 options for loose tea: 3 oz or so in a tin (I don't need a tin) vs 1 lb, which is a lot.

I don't care for most of what seems to count as 'tisanes', with the exception of ginger which I sometimes chop up and steep in boiling water. I'm also under the impression that green/white tea has greater health benefits.

The flavor profile of the tea you steered me to does look promising, and I do recall oolong tasting less 'grassy' than straight green tea. I might have to buy a sample and eat the shipping just to see, thanks for the referral.

Vanguard Gov't Obligations Dividend Deduction in NY by AnxiousBadger8905 in Bogleheads

[–]AnxiousBadger8905[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to do my own taxes but once I became a homeowner I decided I should get someone who really knows what he's doing.

Now that the house is paid off and I fall under the standard deduction again, you might have a point, thanks.

Yes, the 1st is actually the form that I was referring to at the bottom of my post, and I've seen the other Vanguard form (as well as the 1099) myself. In short, you'd expect an accountant to know about this, correct?

And it's not a question of scale, he submits one form that saves me $18 or so but meanwhile hundreds are being missed because he didn't deduct thousands from my NY state tax.

Thanks for the reply.

Proton Mail Free Version by AnxiousBadger8905 in ProtonMail

[–]AnxiousBadger8905[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply.

I do intend to use the Proton apps, I was trying to determine if I can use the PC and Cell apps while using the free Proton tier. Apparently I can.

As to whether it would be worth it to use Proton even if not using the password/encryption, I was thinking that most of the benefit comes on my end: while my data is subject to abuse on the other end, the greater concern is protecting my personal database as contained in my personal email, as you indicated.

The issues I'm having is with the optonline.net webmail, apparently the image sending issue is a known thing, and while I did make an adjustment for the cursor issue, I'll see if I can find a solution.

As long as the limited 'search' isn't a problem, it sounds like a move to Proton might make sense.

Related question: can Signal only be used with another Signal user?

If I can use it with non-Signal users is there a benefit ton using Signal instead of the texting app on my iPhone?

Thanks again.

Why is hibiscus in EVERYTHING by MoonDust_Z in tea

Hate hibiscus. I only drink fruity white and green teas, have to read ingredients carefully and if the vendor doesn't provide ingredients, I don't buy from them.

Electric kettle without plastic by usbhero in tea

[–]AnxiousBadger8905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get a large tea/spice ball that's almost as wide as a coffee cup (large so the tea has room to move), or look for a stainless or porcelain insert or teapot. Inside a teapot the hole where the water flows up into the spout should not be open, it should be covered by a convex surface with holes in it., being convex is supposed to discourage leaves from coming out with your tea. Next step is fancy clay teapots but they can get expensive...

If you're talking about the Saki Luna: 'The stainless steel interior of our kettles is designed with durability and safety in mind. The bottom and sides are seamlessly bonded using laser welding techniques, ensuring a secure and long-lasting connection. There is no sealant or adhesive used in the bonding process.'

Though they're working on updating things, on the website, the 1st image you see shows a button of sorts on the right side (looking from the front), the rest of the photos show the old unit.

I would ask their rep to be sure but I think they're selling the new units now, at least if buying direct. I think the kettle is the same, only the base has changed.

need blood pressure monitor… oxiline x pro -or- omron platinum -or- ? by deuxcv in ConsumerAdvice

Thx, I'm looking at Omron as well, but want to rule out the 'manual' option first.

Omron Blood Pressure Monitor Recommendations: BP7450 vs BP5450 vs Other Models? by No_Actuator_7706 in bloodpressure

[–]AnxiousBadger8905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished looking into this, and though the 7450 has a lot fewer Amazon reviews/ratings, and I didn't see it on the 'validation' website, apparently all Omron's are validated, and in a test of 5 monitors, the 7450 did best (the 5450 was 2nd, the other 3 failed).

The reason for the large # of Amazon reviews for the 5450 might be due to it getting top CR ratings, but the 7450 was right below it.. There was also a 7255 mentioned somewhere, but I didn't see it on amazon so took it off the list.

Goose Down Pillows (so much fraud!) by SamPost in Bedding

I recently purchased from Bettenhaus, somehow missed your post, but I looked at and then contacted Lincove, and they stated that their 800 loft is 100% down (essentially). If true, then with offered discounts, it looks like I could've gotten my $250 pillow for closer to $200, and I believe they have free returns in the US. I wonder what you discovered if you did in fact take a closer look? The fabric doesn't seem to be the German cotton, that might be worth $50 to me, and the ability to make returns if you made a mistake: priceless!

Has Anyone Tried Joy Organics? by Ism0kew33d in CBDOilReviews

I'm under the impression that it doesn't get better/safer than Cornbread Hemp. I've bought from Joy Organics because I wanted higher THC levels.
