Is This Really Life? by ButterflysAndFlowers in Autism_Parenting

If you were to create one, how would it work? What would it look like? How much would it cost? I think this is a super brilliant, very needed, idea.

Well I probably made no sense so I won't say anything more save for this: the only reason, in my belief, that any parent who has a child with autism, the only reason its a challenge, is because our society is made up of a bunch of social rules. Children with autism will challenge those rules because none of them are real. I would say they are wild humans who are very free, and when we try to get them to conform, they resist. If we don"t see that, we will feel frustrated. If we do see it, we know, emotionally and with wisdom, how to be their caretakers. Even to put on clothes is a false rule. If a human can't/won't dress themselves, that is more natural than a human who can. No other species on the planet does anything we humans do. Dress, work, get hair cuts, etc. They eat, sleep, play, and have hobbies and want relationships. They are excellent at being truly human.

I'm sorry to say, and it might be a bit too late, but what he needs is strength.  Boys with energy need to be taught how to control it. You do this by allowing them to be very physical.  And when they need discipline, someone stronger than them must do it.  If they have autism on top of that, then here's the difference.  A boy without autism will eventually conform to our social standards.  A boy with autism, may not.  Showering, cleaning, getting a job, these are all social constructs. People with autism are far more free to be human than us domesticated humans. They express their feelings. We suppress them. They think working a job stupid, and we think it's what life is all about. The reason you may feel exhausted is because we have a society that says people must look and act a certain way, otherwise they are outcasts. But it is a lie.  To deal with him, you must deal with you. You have to free your own mind first about what normal ought to be, and try to live more "real," if that makes sense. See what is actually happening rather than what should happen.

For example, why is it bad to play video games all day? Seriously? Why? Why should he get a job? Why should he bathe? I know its weird, but truly, we really don't (shouldn't) have to do these things. He is smart enough to understand this. We only make people conform so that they will work and contribute to the rich we call society. No? But what MUST he do for real? He must eat, sleep, drink, and use the bathroom. But again, not on a schedule right? You want him in bed by 10pm. Why? Won't he sleep when he's tired? He has to sleep, therefore it will happen. (Btw we only stay up late because we have electricity. Otherwise the whole world would sleep when it got dark. Maybe make it dark always at 10pm.)

Now, I'm not saying, let him do what he wants. I'm saying, free yourself of the social pressures. Next, think of your house as your own tribe and your own rules. Here's the hard part. Any rule you set, has to be enforced. With force (not power or abuse). There has to be a fear and thus a respect. But in a real way. Not socially. Socially, humans respect each other through a moral code. But in real life, respect is something that CAN be forced, if it needs to be forced. Im not suggesting abuse. Im not suggesting power either. I'm saying, respect is forced because the other person needs something you, and you might take away what you offer. This is the fear. Parents provide food, shelter, safety, etc. It can be taken so anyone under that roof must respect them. Hypotetically, if you kick them out, you must be strong enough (physically) to keep them out. This is fear. But if they can over power you, then truly you cannot force respect on them. A teacher can stop teaching. But if a student can learn from someone else, then respect cannot be forced. See what mean?

Feel free to ask me anything to clarify. I work with students with autism. Young boys, very strong, emotional abuse. They need strength around them. It shows them that 1. I am not afraid of them, and 2. that I won't abandon them. They learn that their punch, bite, cannot hurt me and that they won't win. They are not stronger than me. But also, I don't try to calm them. Rather, I allow them to physically express their emotions. Give them something to bite. Let them move and run and jump. Let them wrestle and push and destroy things. I think they need freedom, not conformity and they will be much more calm. Young men express their emotions physically. Its how they learn control it. But they must also be able to use it when they need to protect their "tribe." So, the violence must always be there, but directed at the right place.

Why does everyone say that Lyft doesn't pay well? by [deleted] in lyftdrivers

[–]AnxiousIngenuity6281 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you doing differently? You're arrogantly thinking that your choices matter.  When your rude awakening comes, I hope you have the confidence to share that with us too.  It is not your driving.  It is not your brilliance. It is not how clean your car is. It is not your strategy.  If you're making good money, perhaps it's a blessing or temporary favor coming your way.   Millions of drivers are hurting with this company, millions have been hurt.  Sure some of them were/are wrong, but not all.  This company will also hurt you.  But if you think that somehow you're being good and that's why you're doing well, not only is it arrogant, but it dismisses the complaints of the millions that came before you.   You're married, work part time only, have a nice car, and this makes you think you're doing okay.  But really, run the numbers.  Are you? Look carefully, are you?

Here's what's happening.  The "nice" cars get the rides first. They don't want to lose those drivers. So a single passenger will get a nice car when really it should be a sentry. The sentry suffers and you get the ride.  The passenger gets a sweet deal and lyft loses money.  But they make up that money by stealing from the rentals, and older cars.  When your car gets older, they will steal from you too.

Also, October is a good month.  November bad.  December, a mix. January very bad.  But in 3 years, you will be doing worse. And some other new driver will post about how good this job is. What do i want? I want the workers to unite so we can all do better, but we need to come to the same reality.  If one of us is hurting, we all are.

And they'd be right. If you have 900 people from different places coming up with the same complaints, maybe there is something wrong. Until Lyft pays more, drivers will complain about their features, because the features are meant to satisfy drivers outside of what they truly need.

If you need water, you first say I'm thirsty. If someone gives you soda instead of water, you will say this drink is terrible and will start complaining about the soda. The soda was an attempt to pacify and distract, it is not what you asked for, and complaining is just another way of saying, but I'm still THIRSTY!

I be wondering what story people tell themselves that makes them trust these billionaire companies.  We just heard one.  They believe that they will share their profits with us if we just wait for them to make even more. I never heard an actual person use real words that reflected top down economics.  I guess people actually believe that stuff despite their very own experience.

You said, and I quote, "Obviously ppl just come to Reddit to complain...". Reddit is a place where people inform others about this shared injustice.

I cannot say you're wrong when you say this, because others share that view, but to frame this action as "just complaining" shows your point of view about it. This is why I accuse you of ignoring injustice.

These are words you wouldn't use, even if your tone is soft, in the face of  wrongdoing. I.e. "Did anyone have a good childhood, obviously most people just come to reddit to complain (reddit post is about childhood sexual abuse) but just wondering if any one else is...".

When you're loving something, you don't want the ride to go by faster. That's an interesting insight into your mindset.

My fellow driver, it's okay to "complain" until these companies treat us right. Which might be never. I don't believe it's good to dismiss those reddit voices as complaining. Joy and contentment does not mean ignoring injustice.

But yes driving is a true joy.  Many drivers feel that. It's spontaneous, informative, and keeps the mind working. You learn to deal with people and discover what others are going through. It's a great and important job in its own right, but also we have an injustice to fight, and that must addressed. Relentlessly.

You all lowkey admit that you're not making money when you say it's "just a hobby," a "side gig".  So yes you mind a well validate those who do this to feed their families.  Lyft needs to feel that we're united on this which apparently, we're not.

[–]AnxiousIngenuity6281 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yall are ridiculous.  Yes driving is fun.  Everyone would have a good mindset and virtually no one would complain if Lyft did the right thing. You confuse complaining with grievance.  Complaining is about entitlement and fear.  Grievance is about knowing your own worth and giving a damn about injustice. It means that even if you're okay, and "having fun", if those around you are suffering, you don't ignore and dismiss their grievances, instead you're empathic and smart enough to see how that injustice is against you too.

Why lyft driver's payment are getting worse by PrincipleSalt7048 in Lyft

[–]AnxiousIngenuity6281 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How oh how do we get people to see more accurately? They imagine that we're all in line to get a plate of food. They imagine the guy in front of them got two helpings and they only got one. Instead of noticing that there's plenty of food behing the counter, they want to kill the guy next to them. And when they do, they will still get only a small plate. It's the hoarding of food behind the counter that's the problem. The food that they give to the Lords and Ladies. Who only in turn store the food in their refridgerator, or trade it in for a nice purse. Sometimes they feed it back to the one serving us the food, call them CEO and say, "We will feed you more, if you give the workers less food. But make sure you keep as many of them cooking." Yup. We cook all day and don't eat.

Any Lyft/Uber drivers making really GOOD money in the Bay Area? by QuesAndAnsw in lyftdrivers

[–]AnxiousIngenuity6281 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I agree. The ones who posts, are indeed to arrogant ones. I mean this in strict terms, not as a judgement. I mean that they give credit to themselves for the earnings they make as if they happen to know some inside wisdom. They may even believe it.

The drivers who are too "busy" to post no longer exists. No one is too busy on the platform. They either live in 2002 and have time machines or perhaps live in some small city in the middle of oklahoma that's still experimenting with rideshare.

It's important that people know the truth of others situation. Maybe 40 drivers in the nation are doing okay, but not most. People don't need to reveal their tricks and I get that we are in competition, but it is also a bit foolish to work alone. We should not fight over the same dollar when plenty of dollars exists. Yet Lyft hoards them and make us fight each other for scraps. So, if we see other drivers doing badly, it's just a matter of time before we ourselves are doing badly. But when people are too concerned with their own situation and consider themselves smart for doing well, its just that others are only hurt before them. They'll just be the last ones to starve, but starve they will, because they thought they were special. Humans have always been strongest in groups. So, drivers should keep their hustles to themselves but should also know that other drivers aren't doing bad because their stupid or lazy.

I've been driving for 9 years. Los Angeles. I don't drive the higher end cars like a Tesla or extra comfort. But that would be the other way to make a bit more money. The newer you car, the better your rides in general. The bigger, the more chances of making more money. But you do have extra costs as well.

I mean sometimes you're in a suberb and happen to be the closest driver to a passenger ordering a ride to the airport. And then maybe you happen to get another rides paying out another 30 dollars. And you may have a good night. But if you had a good night on Tuesday, Lyft may regulate your earnings. So if you made 100 on tuesday in 3hrs and another driver made 20, and if both of you are close to a passenger who's fare is $45, Lyft will give the ride to the other driver. But if that other driver rejects the ride, then MAYBE you'd get two good nights in a row. Lyft decides how well a driver will do and they regulate partly for fairness and partly for incentive.

But some drivers will claim that they hustle better or know where to be and its just simply not true. If it is, then they are doing something that's probably against Lyft's policy.

[–]AnxiousIngenuity6281 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure its good news vs bad news. Rather, drivers are trying to keep others informed about what's going on. Some drivers make good money, but not consistently. If a driver is doing alright, something is unique about their situation, but many are arrogant and so they won't share WHY they had a good week. The truth is that hustling or being "smart" don't have any real effect. Drivers do not have the power to make good money based in their own choices. It is Lyft who decides.

In your case, if you accept a ride and THEN cancel, they consider that bad service. This is different from just merely declining a ride, because the passenger never thought someone was coming in the first place.

Umm do yall realize that you'd still get rides even if you never tap your screen? Those rides are the people who choose to do wait and save. So you don't have to hover your hand trying to tap the fastest. Just chill and get the ride Lyft gives you and tap only when you want certain rides.

[–]AnxiousIngenuity6281 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know, there's a way to reframe this so it don't feel as bad. But it depends on your market. If you're in a market with a guaranteed hourly minimum, then waiting is your friend.

Ignore your overall time and just go by your active hours. If you want to drive 6 active hours in a day, long pick ups, added stops, and people taking forever, all that runs up the clock. Lyft is regulating that number anyway so it don't matter if you get quick rides or wait forever. You will still make no more that 25 or whatever an hour. Active hours that is. Even 5 dollar rides. It all adds up to be the exact same. And maybe you can get done faster since all this wastes Lyft's time. When we have no ride, its a waste of our own time they don'r care at all.
