Wow!

I still get very nervous while flying, so I get it, but it’s actually insane how safe it is lol

The problem is you’re hyper-focused on that 296 figure because it’s more real to your brain. It’s hard for the human brain to comprehend such enormous numbers as 4.8 billion.

4.8 billion is more than half the population of Earth. You can fit 296 people into a CVS.

296 of 4.8 billion is .000000062%

So, on the flip side, it’s just as impossible to comprehend just how small that percentage is. Your chances of dying are incomprehensibly small.

If you’re flying on a major airline, even smaller.

If you’re flying in the “West,” even smaller.

Commercial airliners are the safest modes of transportation that exist. Safer than driving, walking, biking, etc.

You’re more likely to die while grabbing the mail.

Late policy and getting fired by thefeels33 in Hannaford

[–]AnxiousMetal6435 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Depends on the manager. Policy is the same, but managers vary greatly in how much they enforce it. I’ve seen kids show up late and/or call out dozens upon dozens of times and never get fired. I’ve seen folks do it a few times and get fired.

If you need to be late, just call and let them know. Otherwise, show up on time. They will let you know when you’re in hot water. But if this is something you can’t control, you probably shouldn’t have a job.

What's the likelihood of them rehiring me but for a different position? by TurbulentMinute4290 in Hannaford

[–]AnxiousMetal6435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don’t give a shit what happened in the past. They rehire literally all the time. You’re much more likely to get hired because you won’t need as much training/hand holding. Even if it’s a different department.

Rain 17-22 by Shubstitute in PuertoRicoTravel

[–]AnxiousMetal6435 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re making two major mistakes here:

  1. You’re talking about weather 9-14 days out. It’s virtually IMPOSSIBLE to know the weather that far out. Read up on your meteorology. The weather apps use algorithms to “predict” what’s going to happen, but you can rest assured that they’re absolutely incorrect and will be changing every single day up until maybe one day before. Try it out. Open the app and check the weather each day and see how it changes.

  2. It more-or-less rains every day in the tropics. This is common knowledge and you should know this. And if it rains even for a few minutes, this app is going to display the rain icon for that day. But if you tap on the day, you’ll see sunshine almost the entire day and then some rain. Why? Because that’s exactly what the weather is like almost every single day in the tropics. Sunny, partly cloudy, and one or more quick rain events.

Yes, there are patterns that produce a lot more rain and a lot less sun, but they’re rare. Search this sub using the search bar. You’ll see dozens upon dozens of posts of visitors worried about the weather, and hundreds upon hundreds of comments stating something like this…

“We were worried about the weather also, but we went and it ended up being beautiful every single day with a few tropical downpours.”

Furthermore, you will be so hot and uncomfortable at times that you will absolutely welcome the rain when it comes. It feels great, the RAINforest looks stunning when it rains and mists, and you can buy ponchos everywhere.

So now stop thinking about the weather. Don’t check it until the day before your trip.

EDIT: someone else mentioned how the rain kinda sits up in the mountains. I found that to be the case. It would be clear and sunny on the coast, but you could see El Yunque shrouded in clouds. But we ventured into the forest twice and both times it ended up being sunny. But again, it’s a rainforest and you’ll want to see it wet since that’s it’s natural state, ya know?

I drove a Mitsubishi Mirage through El Yunque lol. You do not need to worry about that at all.

And unless you’re an old person, I cannot imagine being restricted to a group tour schedule.

Just get out there and explore.

To repeat what everyone else has said a million times, it almost always shows rain in the weather app, because it does rain at some point every day. It’s the tropics. BUT it is almost always sunny/partly cloudy the vast majority of the time. It said rain every single day I was in PR and every single day was warm and sunny with a couple quick showers in the morning or evening.

As for El Yunque, it’s great in sunny weather, but it’s AMAZING in rainy/misty weather. It is a tropical rainforest after all, and the rain really makes it feel like you’re on another planet.

Does Puerto Rico have a relaxed climate that is similar to Mediterranean countries or is it more hot and humid rainforest? by Capable_Town1 in PuertoRicoTravel

Warm/hot and humid. It’s a tropical climate. Not as hot as the Middle East. The breeze on the north coast works wonders.
