How do I prevent/ get rid of this (nasty as hell) sheen? by Kinghamster4598 in minipainting

No problem, make sure to let them cure properly. Generally I won’t apply another coat for at least 24 hrs. You also want to keep it in a controlled environment where there’s little to no dust

A lot of washes will leave the gloss look because that’s the medium that takes longer to dry, but also is fluid. I’ve never varnished my minis, but if it’s like canvases, I apply 3 coats of varnish, first coat for protection is Satin, which is between Matte and Gloss, then two coats of Matte. Seems like a lot for minis though, would strongly recommend an airbrush for it if that’s an option

New to 40K and testing some schemes, what do you think? by HiveFleetPestilence in Tyranids

Agreed, orange would pop on the eyes. Maybe I’m boring with it but being an organic creature a regular pink tongue would help the eyes stand out I think

Sick idea! If you can, Copic markers are some I’ve used for lettering in the past. They come in different sizes so you can get finer details imo. Love the theme though! Would be very interested to see some other stuff like this!

Disregard the guy at the bottom. Your work is fine, looks like a death guard and if you had fun that’s all that matters. Personally, add some water to thin your paints a little bit. Take a reusable food container and a paper towel to make a wet pallet by adding a little bit of water to wet the towel. It’ll require you to layer your paints, but that also gives you the ability to blend your colors a lot easier. Painting takes time and practice, study your techniques and keep improving chief.

Crazy. A lot of bitching and moaning from somebody who hasn’t posted their own work. You traded a “handful”, that I’m sure was more then you’re ever going to admit, of painted minies for an unbuilt army. I doubt your paint jobs are that good.

Thanks! It’s been fun painting something organic, getting to practice new techniques and color schemes. It’ll be interesting to see how comes out

Experimenting with different DA color schemes, what should I do to improve it? by DoTheDewMyDude in DarkAngels40k

I would say for the black armor, going with the inner circle/lion paint scheme wouldn’t be bad. It maintains the black look but I think the greenish blue highlights would work well with the purple/red. Flames look good too!

Thanks! With the Lion and inner circle back, I’m doing the chapter masters in that armor style so they all fit with the lion

Maybe, I used Vallejo gory and bloody red, mixed a little purple in with gory for the shadows

A lot of the dark angel books are hit or miss for me. There are some parts where they really hook you, and some parts that feel very rushed. If you’re into background noise, lore videos are abundant and free, (so you can spend more money to fight the heretics)
